One of the highlights of my visit to Myanmar was taking a 2-day trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake. This path winds through the Burmese countryside, tiny villages, beautiful quiet forests, and acres of farmland and rice paddies. It’s my top recommendation for people looking for unique things to do in Myanmar. If you have time, the full trek takes 3 days (and 2 nights), but you can also do it in 2 days if you’re short on time. Along with admiring the amazing untouched scenery, you’ll also be able to connect with your guide, as well as the locals in the villages you pass through as you stop for meals and accommodations. Be sure to request a stay in one of the old wooden monasteries — the accommodations are far from luxury (you’ll be sleeping on a mat on the floor) but it’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience that you won’t want to miss! Spend at least a few days in Inle Lake after your trek is finished, exploring the water villages, the amazing restaurants, and the artisan crafts for which this beautiful lake town is famous. #awesomepic
