Chiller Square is said to be the horse farmyard of the year, the only square to be rebuilt in the postwar Stuttgart. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Duke of Friedrich in Württemberg commissioned the famous architect of the time Heinrich Schickhardt to complete the design and construction of Chiller Square. In the center of the square is a statue of the great German writer Schiller, completed in 1839 by a Danish sculptor who was born in Marbach, near Stuttgart. The buildings around Schiller Square are the old palace, the old Prime Minister's Palace Hotel (formerly the Prime Minister's Palace), the Ministry of Justice (formerly the Prince's Palace), the Abbey Church and the Museum of Musical Instruments. These buildings are beautifully designed and luxurious, especially at the weekend market, which gives a glimpse of Stuttgart's old days.
