The Eagle's Nest

The Eagle's Nest is a famous attraction in the Alps, built on the top of a mountain 1,885 meters high. In 1937, this guest house was built as a birthday gift to Hitler. After that, the Eagle's Nest became a place where Hitler used to entertain his allies and hold meetings with the Gestapo during the war. Today, the Eagle's Nest is open to tourists and has become a mountaintop restaurant and observation deck.



Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden

The Berchtesgaden Salt Mine is called Salzbergwerk, and Salzburg actually means salt. You can get there by taking bus 840/836/848 at the bus stop in front of the Berchtesgaden train station. The underground salt mine has a constant temperature of 12 degrees, so even if you go there in the hot summer, you have to wear special clothes to go in, otherwise you will be frozen silly. First take an open-top train to go in, then slide down like a kindergarten kid, and then take a boat to paddle in the dark lake. The lake water is freezing cold. Be careful to keep up with the main group and don't fall behind, because everyone is a single traveler and the tour leader will not count the number of people.


