Fasil Ghebbi

Fasil Ghebbi, Gondar Region, are the remains of a fortress-city that was the residence of the Ethiopian emperor Fasilides and his successors. Fasil Ghebbi is a fortress located in the city of Gondar, in the north-western Ethiopian region of Amhara. The Royal Enclosure is the stays of a fortress-city in Gondar, Ethiopia. It was founded in the 17th century with the aid of Emperor Fasilides.



There are 11 churches carved out of a rocky mountain, which is a miracle in architectural history and a world cultural heritage of Ethiopia. It only takes one hour to fly from Addis Ababa to Lalibela. The ticket is $100, which is a bit expensive. Since you have flown here (the air ticket is also expensive), you might as well take a look. In fact, if you don’t find a tour guide and walk around the town by yourself, you probably don’t need to buy a ticket. All the churches are open-air and you can see them all. It’s better to take pictures outside, there is nothing to see inside. The main theme of the interior decoration is thrifty [laughing and crying R]

Simien National Park, in northern Ethiopia is a spectacular landscape, where massive erosion over millions of years has created jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and sharp precipices dropping some 1,500m. The Ethiopian wolf, Gelada, Menelik's bushbuck, and Walia Ibex are mammals endemic to Ethiopian Highlands. Other rare mammals include Hamadryas baboon, colobus monkey, leopard, caracal, serval, wild cat, spotted hyena, golden jackal, and Anubis baboon.



The National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa houses the famous Lucy fossil, ancient artifacts, and Ethiopian art. Though small, it offers deep historical insights. Some exhibits need better maintenance. Worth a visit!
