A really beautiful shrine with immaculately clean, well kept facilities. It has a nice serene pace to it, and we were lucky that there was an umeshu tasting festival on the grounds when we went. The main deity enshrined is the god of learning, 'Sugawara no Michizane'. The Maple Garden (Momiji-en) is only open to the public during specific times of the year. During the peak of autumn foliage, the garden is blanketed with a carpet of maple red. If you are visiting the area, there are a lot of nice restaurants and cafes nearby. It is well worth a visit. This Shrine is very nice and worth visiting. It is more a complex of shrines that are decorated with lanterns and brass coverings. The complex is beautiful because there are purple plum trees blooming and really makes it fun to walk through. It is free to enter.
