Shudian Street

There are not many streets named after bookstores in the world. There are two famous ones: one is Kanda Book Street in Tokyo, Japan, and the other is Book Street in Kaifeng. Kaifeng Book Street is located in Longting District, and its history can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty a thousand years ago, while Kanda Book Street has a history of only a hundred years. Bookstore Street runs from north to south, north to Dongxi Street and south to Drum Tower Square. In the Northern Song Dynasty, it was called "Gaotou Street" and was adjacent to the Palace of the Song Dynasty. At that time, the commodities traded here mainly included clothing, books, calligraphy and painting, antiques and traditional Chinese medicine. It was not until the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty that it was officially named "Bookstore Street", and it was famous for its business of books, calligraphy and painting and the four treasures of the study. The total length of Bookstore Street is only more than 600 meters. The two sides of the street are mostly two-story loft-style buildings, with blue bricks and white seams, small tile roofs, cornices and ridges, and the style is simple and elegant. There are more than 40 large and small bookstores and more than 100 stationery stores on the street. There are also people running restaurants, department stores, and handicrafts. The archway at the north entrance of Bookstore Street and the former site of the Henan-Shaanxi District Committee of the Communist Party of China at the corner of the road are the places where Wang Ruofei and Xiao Chunu fought. At the southern end of Bookstore Street, there is a blue-gray Qing Dynasty building with a sculpture of "Shou Xing Holding Peach" right above the gate. The store, called "Jinyang Yu", was founded in the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. It used to deal in fruits, groceries, and cakes, and now it has become a bookstore. Walking in the bookstore street, you can feel the precipitation of history and culture, and you can also enter the bookstores on both sides to buy books, and you may have unexpected results.
