Chapel of Our Lady

The Virgin Church is the site of a famous large Catholic church in Jiaxing. In 1917, the priest of Han and Nippon presided over the construction of this magnificent Gothic cathedral. Han and Nippon are both devout Catholics and famous Italian architects, and treat craftsmen very strictly. It cost 80,000 silver yuan, which took 13 years and was completed by 1930. The entire church covers an area of 3.4 10,000 square meters, with a construction area of 1320 square meters. The first two bell towers in the church rose up to 57 meters, and the scale is known as China's first and the third in the Far East. The Cultural Revolution was devastated here, and the Church of Our Lady left only broken walls, but still can see tall domes and arched coupon doors, beautiful reliefs. The facade of the church adopts a typical Gothic structure, which is very similar to Notre Dame, but unfortunately you can't go in and see it.

This old church is the church of Jiaxing called the Virgin Church, commonly known as the Virgin Church, the Church of the God. Speaking of Jiaxing, many people have only the impression: the birthplace of the Party, a small town with Xitang and Wuzhen. Unknown, this church was once the largest and third-largest church in the Far East. After the completion of the Vincent monastery in Jiaxing in 1903, the Catholic Church expanded its influence. In 1904, the Italian priest Han and Japanese built the church next to the wall of the city of Zicheng (formerly Jiaxing). In 1937, the war of resistance broke out, enemy aircraft repeatedly committed Jiaxing, and the church of the Virgin Mary climbed the bell tower many times, hit the bell, thinking of air defense alarm. The clock is no longer on the bell tower, and is stored in a makeshift shed next to the church. Unfortunately, the people did not protect her at the time, and the church that once saved many people was severely damaged during the Cultural Revolution. Now more than 100 years later, where the church still stands, it is now the largest monument church in China. An old friend of transportation, the first courtyard of Jiaxing, built in 1920, has been demolished, leaving only the church and Jiaxing's old city gate to rely on each other. When I was in school, I passed by here every day. There was a big wolf dog at the door. It was very fierce as soon as people approached. The church was also open, and the church ladder was not covered with grass. I would also bypass the big wolf dog with my classmates and secretly run in to play. There was nothing empty in the church room. Today, for better maintenance, the church is basically closed, and the Daimeng Hotel overlooks the old church.
