Dongfang Mountain Scenic Spot

There have been two theories about the origin of the name of Dongfang Mountain: one is that the mountain is located in the east, and together with Xisai Mountain and Zhangjia Lake standing in the middle of the Yangtze River, it forms a joint water and land defense base, becoming the eastern fortress and barrier of the capital of Eastern Wu; the other is that it is said that Dongfang Shuo once came here to live in seclusion during the Western Han Dynasty, and the mountain was named Dongfang Mountain in memory of this historical celebrity.

Dongfang Mountain is located in Huangshi, Hubei Province. It is mainly composed of three main peaks: Manqian Peak, Lansheng Peak, and Zoumazhai. There are more than 2,000 species of woody and herbaceous plants in the mountain, and the forest coverage rate is over 90%. It is the largest forest area in Huangshi. Among them, there is a thousand-year-old ginkgo tree planted by Zhiyin, the founder of Honghua Zen Temple on the mountain. It has a lifespan of more than 1,200 years, is more than 30 meters high, and has a tree diameter of nearly 2 meters. In addition, there are precious ancient and large trees: Podocarpus, camphor, etc.

Throughout history, many scholars and tourists have climbed this mountain. The Attraction still preserves the eight ancient scenic spots, including "green pine inserted upside down, white lotus blooming frequently, iron ox lying lazily, stone boat propped up high, moon rising from the Zen gate, fairy shoes warm in the sun, spiritual spring standing out, and clouds stopping in the Taoist cave."
