What travelers say:

The temple of Philae on the island was originally on Philae Island, an island in the shallows of the Nile. After the British built the Nile Low Dam in 1902, the temple of Philae was flooded for months every year. The Aswan High Dam was built, and the temple of Philae was going to sink forever. For this reason, the temple was relocated to the nearby Akilkia Island. Akilkia Island was not large enough and was specially expanded a little, so that the temple was restored as it was.
