Celebrated a 60th birthday party. Great function hall and adjoining bar. Friendly, helpful and accommodating Bar Manager and bar staff. Would definitely recommend. Our son and his young family stayed in one of the large rooms, very comfortable.

Tired, decrepit and dirty with Fawlty Towers-level service. I’ve attached some photos to illustrate the awfulness. Bathroom was ghastly. Cracked basin, toilet seat falling off, towel rail falling off the wall, unusable shower, bath tap broken and filthy, door lock broken, mould round the bath, door covered in sticky brown spots like someone had sprayed a can of Coke at it. Lovely mould in the breakfast room too. At breakfast on Sunday they’d “run out of butter and weren’t getting a delivery until Tuesday” so I went and bought some from the Co-op 50 yards away. No breakfast available the following morning as “the chef was ill” (and no refund for the non-breakfast). Our host wandered into the breakfast room for a cup of coffee and didn’t even acknowledge our presence, even though we were the only people there. Absolutely astonishing that this is a three-star hotel, the place is massively overpriced, grubby, ramshackle and the service just laughably bad. Avoid at all costs.

Rude old lady working the bar. Huffing and tutting when we asked for things. Rude bald man propping up the end of the bar sneering and making rude comments towards people and generally not being a very nice human at all. I’m assuming it’s the old lady’s husband. Will not be going again and would reccomend people stay away until management change.

Stayed here one night whilst walking through the area. A good central location. The hotel felt historic. The staff were all friendly and helpful . My room was spacious and well appointed. A comfortable bed and little street noise, so I slept very well. Breakfast was average but adequate. I review the restaurant, Smile Thai, elsewhere. Probably the best option in Amesbury for a short stay.

Excellent value , staff very friendly and the locals who use the bar very welcoming and friendly to . It’s a very old building with lots of history so you have to expect areas that you’ll see that need a lick of paint and a tidy up but that shouldn’t put you off your stay. Room we had was lovely, spacious , and tidy . Breakfast is lovely too. Very quiet in surrounding area . Car park very cheap over the road . Very comfortable and everything you could possibly need . Will definitely stay again

I often pick hotels with TripAdvisor and I'm usually happy. This time a warning should have been put on instead of a 5star. The hotel advertises being "newly refurbished" , it was anything but. Under a fresh layer of paint is mould and oeeling wallpaper. The general impression is lack of cleaning everywhere. My single room (no 15) was particularly bad with the lightswitch in bathroom dangling down from a wire, a shower curtain yellow with dirt, a showerhead half clogged up with limescale and overall dust and dirt including the washbasin. Wooden window frames crumbling, ends of pipework in the way, a pretty bad sight. My friends wanted a twin roon which was confirmeud but ended up in a double bed, thet aren't a couple! The hotel might have potential but not until a cleaning regime is in place. One point because I was given a full refund of the cost for the single room after showing so ebody around my room.
