Every plant, flower, and stone in the garden seems to tell a story. 🌲Many bridges in the garden are well-preserved, with Taiping Bridge, Jili Bridge, and Changqing Bridge collectively known as 'Three Bridges'. Walking across the 'Three Bridges' is a local custom, symbolizing good fortune and wealth. 🌲Luoxingzhou is a small island within the lake of Tongli Ancient Town, accessible only by boat. The owner is a craftsman who makes stunning bamboo clothing and has delicately drawn the 'Prosperous Suzhou' map. A year has passed, and I wonder if it's completed. If you come across this shop, remember to take a look. 🌲Before entering the scenic area, there is a pedestrian street with food and drink available. You can try the 'Zhuangyuan Hoof', 'Tu Si Cake', 'Red Bean Cake', 'Bull Nose Crisp', 'Sock Bottom Crisp', and many more. 🌲There is a cozy cafe in the garden, not big, but very warm, and great for taking photos. 🌲You can row a boat in the garden, which costs 💰120 for a boat that can carry 6 people.

I went on this really amazing photography trip the other day to the quiet town called Tongli. This is located at the far south side of Suzhou. I’ve only been here a couple times but it still felt brand-new to be in this place. There’s so many things to see so many beautiful sites and interesting food and spices and souvenirs so you can get. And every once in a while you see one of the most beautiful sites of the calm and peaceful canal. 𝙲𝚒𝚝𝚢 - Suzhou, Jiangsu Province 𝙶𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 - You can take a didi/taxi, one could probably use the subway too, I have no idea what the nearest stop is or on what line it is 🙈 𝙰𝚝𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚜 - The water canals in between the old Chinese style buildings are the main highlight. 𝙷𝚘𝚝𝚎𝚕𝚜 - There are hotels next to the canals that look very modern but have yet to try them. 😝 𝙵𝚘𝚘𝚍 & 𝚁𝚎𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚞𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚜 - Lots of food, restaurants and bars to choose from. 𝚂𝚑𝚘𝚙𝚙𝚒𝚗𝚐 - Lots of little shops around, I bought a whole lot of souvenirs 🥰🥰 This was such an experience, at night they have lights all along the canals, it's so so beautiful and makes me think what it would've looked like 50 years ago. A nice spot for a weekend away. Tongli is a small water town with nice cafés, handmade craft stores, restaurants and food vendors. At night the town is lit by lanterns and spotlights which make it feel very cosy and welcoming. Tongli is definitely a great spot for relaxing and taking the day slowly as it's a quaint town with temples, historic residences and cobbled lanes by the water. The food in town was generally salty and sweet and the people were very friendly. We cycled to Tongli from Shanghai but you could take the fast train, metro or taxi to get there too. There are lots of very affordable b&b options throughout the town, but you will still need to pay for entry to town at most. #watertown

Getting There - we are living in JinJi lake to take almost 2hours metro to get there by line 8and line 4 Attractions - there has very beautiful and picture views in this town! you can really put yourself in this cultural town deeply! Hotels - we were living in a hostel called Tongli defucaotang hostel! Food & Restaurants - The traditional local food 清蒸白鱼 and 爆炒river 虾 which are steamed white fish and fried river shrimp! On this day I took a trip to the distant and ancient town of Tongli. this district is located at the far south area of Suzhou. and in this place you can see so many beautiful sights. This town is actually a really old town and one thing I appreciate about this place is that the buildings and structures still retained the old Chinese aesthetic. Suzhou | Guzhen Tongka Tongli This ancient town is a national AAAAA level tourist attraction, one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, has long been famous. Before entering the center of the scenic spot, I saw a lot of floor tiles engraved with the names of the film and television dramas at the door. I looked at the names and remembered that the Dream of Red Mansions was also used here. The most famous attractions here are Yiyuan (Retreat Garden), Ertang (Jiayintang, Chongbentang) Sanqiao (Taiping Bridge, Geely Bridge, Changqing Bridge). The retreat park is very beautiful. 📍 Location: Suzhou, Jiangsu ✨ Experience: Follow a guide into the mansions of wealthy merchants from the Jiangnan region, take a ride on a black awning boat and listen to the boatwoman sing "Beautiful Scenery of Suzhou," sit down at Nanyuan Teahouse to drink tea, eat sunflower seeds, and listen to Pingtan, visit a shop selling cheongsams to pick out a few beautiful outfits and satisfy your shopping cravings, and sit down at a riverside restaurant to eat, drink, and watch the people and boats go by. My favorite moment in Tongli was the few hours I spent listening to Pingtan at Nanyuan Teahouse. The dozen or so square tables on the second floor were all full, and everyone was enjoying tea and snacks while listening to songs like "Sheng Sheng Man," "Night Mooring at Maple Bridge," and "Phoenix Hairpin." It's easy to get lost in the songs and imagine the gentle Jiangnan region with its small bridges and flowing water, and the endless love, longing, sorrow, and warmth. When I took a ride on a black awning boat, I asked the boatwoman to sing a few local folk songs. Her soft Wu dialect echoed throughout the ancient town, and I was lost in a dream of Jiangnan as the boat gently swayed. The rivers in Tongli Ancient Town are narrow, and the roads along the river are also narrow. Many locals still live here, and they ride their electric scooters along the stone roads, seemingly accustomed to the crowds of tourists. I stood for a long time by the window overlooking the lake in Tuisi Garden, watching the fish slowly swim through the clear water and the reflections of people and trees ripple with the waves.

Located in the suburbs of Suzhou, Tongli Ancient Town is truly an underrated treasure. It has both the garden-style water town scenery and the cultural charm of the "Venice of the East". Classical gardens, former residences of celebrities, small bridges and flowing water, and old streets and alleys can be seen everywhere, and are worth savoring. The authentic Ming and Qing garden architecture is perfect for taking photos in ancient costumes, and there are few people. The town is full of life, with cobblestone roads and simple food. When you are tired of walking, you can sit by the water and drink a pot of tea slowly, enjoying the elegance and tranquility. There is almost no commercial atmosphere (and no travel agency tours). It is 18 kilometers from Suzhou and only 1 hour's drive from Shanghai, making it suitable for weekend self-driving tours. Transportation: Take Metro Line 4 from "Suzhou Station" to the terminal station "Tongli", and transfer to the Smart Rail Line 1 to "Tongli Ancient Town Station". The whole journey is expected to take 1 hour and 15 minutes (you may get a little restless). Tickets: CNY 100/person, CNY 80/person for advance purchase (excluding tickets for other attractions and entertainment facilities inside). Time: 08:00–17:15 (last entry at 17:00). Admission is free before 8:00 and after 17:00. Accommodation: We booked a homestay in Tongli Ancient Town, but not a river view room, because we were out during the day and couldn't see the river view at night (it was pitch black). If you want to take a stroll around Tongli Ancient Town but don't want to pay for a ticket, it is recommended to arrive after 17:00, stay overnight in the ancient town, and reserve more than half a day to visit the ancient town. 1. Because the attractions we visited were basically in the city center, the homestay owner would ride a tricycle to take us to the light rail station in the morning, and we could only return after 17:00 in the evening, otherwise we would have to pay for tickets. It took about three hours to travel back and forth every day. 2. Even if you don't buy a ticket for the main entrance, many attractions inside require tickets. A sculling boat costs CNY 120/boat, with a limit of 6 people per boat. You can share a boat, but when there are few people, you can't find anyone to share with! 3. Since we went there on a non-holiday, there were not many people visiting the ancient town in the morning! It is more suitable for people with plenty of time. Stay for a few more days, sit by the river, take a walk, and experience the culture. The atmosphere is quite good.
