Santa Barbara Castle, Spain
Address:
Recommended points: A fortress in Alicante, a city on the Mediterranean coast in the Valencian Community in southeastern Spain. In the 9th century, Muslims built a fortress on the site of an ancient Carthaginian castle on the top of Mount Benacantil, in the northeast of the old town.
Many of the buildings that can be seen today were built after the Reconquista, between the 16th and 18th centuries.
It's a very steep road to Santa Barbara Castle, but the view from there is spectacular.
This is a highly recommended spot if you come to Alicante in Spain.

The Best Festival in Spain in June Is...
The best festival in Spain in June is the Hogueras de San Juan. Although this is a national festival, the most grand, fun, and festive celebrations are in Alicante, Valencia.
This year's festival will last from June 20 to 24. "Noche de San Juan" is the most exciting part of the festival, usually held on June 23 or 24 each year. The wooden sculptures on the street during the day become "torches" for the bonfire at night, burning brightly in the night.
- What else can you do:
🎇 At midnight on June 24, a fireworks display called "Palmera" will be launched from the top of Santa Barbara Castle. The fireworks will bloom into palm trees, lighting up the night sky.
💃 During each Hogueras de San Juan, girls will wear traditional local costumes, participate in various activities, and be selected as the festival queen "Bellesa del Foc"!
- What else can you eat:
🥘 People usually eat tuna pie (Coca amb tonyina) on the day of the Hogueras de San Juan, as well as Arroz a banda, a type of seafood rice made with potatoes, fish, and rice, usually decorated with various seafood and seasoned with spices such as saffron and paprika.
Fireworks and bonfires are the epitome of midsummer! Come to Alicante, Spain, for the festival~

Good for a weekend
#myhiddengems
So Alicante tends to get overshadowed by these resort towns around it. But on its own too it has the potential to offer you an authentic experience. I have spent a weekend there and between the food and old town there was enough for me. It does recive a lot of holiday tourists from nearby countries or even Britain for that reason. And it offers daytrips possibilities to lot of othe places. There are several towns and villages within reachable distances and each with its own charm.
For instance i visited the town of Elche. This place comes alive every evening in the long summer and it really buzzes. Alicante itself is a beautiful city with a marina that is breathtaking. Tapas bars, restaurants and hotels everywhere. Sitting above the city is the imposing Castillo Santa Barbara. This is worth a visit if only for the views from the top and is accessed via lifts from the main street opposite the marina. Up the coast there is Benidorm, Calpe, Havia, Moraira. Drive south to Guardamar, Torrevieja, Santa Pola. The list goes on. All these places are within ten minutes to an hours’ drive from Alicante.
