Nikko, Near Tokyo - One of Japan's Three Famous Waterfalls
Kegon Falls, located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, is one of Japan's three famous waterfalls, alongside Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki Prefecture and Nachi Falls in Wakayama Prefecture. The water source of Kegon Falls comes from Lake Chuzenji, where the lake water cascades down a 97-meter-high cliff, creating a spectacular waterfall scene. The waterfall is surrounded by dense forests, offering different sceneries in each season: lush greenery in spring, cool and refreshing in summer, vibrant autumn leaves in fall, and hanging icicles in winter, making it a breathtaking sight. Visitors can take an elevator to the viewing platform at the base of the waterfall to experience the majestic force and splashing water up close. Kegon Falls was designated as a National Scenic Spot in Japan in 1931 and was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Geological Sites in 2007. It is a must-visit attraction in the Nikko area.
Kegon Falls offers different beautiful sceneries throughout the year, but the best time to visit is in autumn (October to November) when the mountains are covered with vibrant autumn leaves, making the scenery particularly magnificent. Winter at Kegon Falls has its unique charm, with the surrounding water forming spectacular icicles, creating a beautiful blue ice scene. These icicles sparkle in the sunlight, resembling crystal-clear crystals. The winter scenery of Kegon Falls not only showcases the wonders of nature but also gives a sense of tranquility and grandeur. Visitors can admire these icicles from the viewing platform and experience the unique cold and beauty of winter.

น้ำตกเคงอน (Kegon Waterfall)🏞️
Kegon Waterfall is one of the 3 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan!! It is about 97 meters high, which is considered very high. The scenery here is very beautiful, especially in the fall. The waterfall is surrounded by red, yellow, and orange leaves, which is a very beautiful view. But the best time to go is when all the leaves have already fallen. But no matter what, this place is beautiful in every season. After this, it will be a view of snow and some parts of the waterfall will turn into ice. 📷 There is a free viewing point where we can see the waterfall from a high angle, which is very beautiful. But if you want to get closer to the waterfall, there is an elevator to go down, which costs a fee.

Japan's most beautiful waterfalls
#traveldiaries #japan
Finally been to Kegon Waterfall and it is indeed so beautiful. The waterfall is about 100m tall and I love how visitors are able to view the entire waterfall from a bird's eye perspective from an observation platform. In autumn with the autumn foliage, the waterfalls look even more spectacular. While some people said the paid elevator deck is overrated, I think it is worth it if you have good weather.
Kegon Waterfall is a short walk from the Chuzenji Onsen bus terminal. I definitely recommend you to visit this attraction at least once especially in autumn!

Nature's Masterpiece: Kegon Falls
#waterfall
Kegon Falls, nestled in the heart of Nikko National Park, is one of Japan's most breathtaking natural wonders. This 97-meter waterfall, fed by the waters of Lake Chuzenji, plunges dramatically down a sheer cliff, creating a mesmerizing sight that has captivated visitors for centuries.
One of the "Three Great Waterfalls" of Japan, Kegon Falls is particularly stunning during the autumn months when the surrounding foliage turns vibrant shades of red and gold. However, the falls offer year-round beauty, with frozen cascades in winter and lush greenery in summer.
**Tip**: Take the elevator down to the lower viewing platform for an up-close perspective of the falls' power and grandeur.

It is also a short walk from the parking to the lookout. It Beautiful waterfall. We went during December so we caught a glimpse of snow and waterfall. If you are in the nikko bus tour, it is definitely worth the stop.

Kegon Waterfall
#2024wish The observation platform has 3 levels: worth checking all three levels given a small difference in the viewing angles provide a slightly different experience.
Winter is not the best season to come as there’s much less water than it is in the summer. Still, it’s a really nice view that brings me a sense of calmness and peacefulness. Also really cool to see the shadows of the waterfall.
Definitely recommend a visit!l
I wish to travel more in 2024

The Most Famous Nikko’s Waterfall-Kegon Fall
#fallishere
The view of Kegon Falls can be enjoyed from both the free and paid decks.
You can see the top of the waterfall from the free deck, or you can pay 570yen to take the elevator down 100 feet below and enjoy a more significant view.
This place is very touristy, and there are many people queuing, but they are very efficient, and the line moves quickly.
There are numerous stalls nearby where you may try regional food.

Kegon Falls in Winter
Visited the most famous of Nikko’s many beautiful waterfalls with an approximately 100 meters high, this Kegon waterfall has also been designated as one of Japan’s top three greatest waterfalls.
It’s a great place to visit every season due to its stunning scenery. In spring and early summer, you can see a timeless evergreen color of trees around the waterfall, In autumn especially from mid to late October the color of leaves are in its most brilliant colors such as yellow, gold and red.
Moreover, in the winter the view of the waterfall is kind of amazing piece of art for it covers almost completely solid with snow, creating beautiful ice shapes. God is truly wonderful for making this kind of nature’s masterpiece.

The almost 100 meter tall. it is the most famous of Nikko's many beautiful waterfalls. In fact, it is even ranked as one of Japan's three most beautiful falls, along with Nachi Waterfall in Wakayama Prefecture and Fukuroda Waterfall in Ibaraki Prefecture. #wintergetaway

Had a great time at Kegon Falls and Lake Chueznji in Japan yesterday! Cold and beautiful!! The falls were breathtaking and you can get in the perfect viewing spot if you take the elevator. The lake was so calm. Its gorgeous with the snow and bare trees, but I can imagine it in the spring with the cherry blossoms.

The almost 100 meter tall Kegon Waterfall (華厳の滝, Kegon no taki) is the most famous of Nikko's many beautiful waterfalls. In fact, it is even ranked as one of Japan's three most beautiful falls, along with Nachi Waterfall in Wakayama Prefecture and Fukuroda Waterfall in Ibaraki Prefecture.
Kegon Waterfall is the only exit for the waters of Lake Chuzenji. It can be seen from a free observation platform that is easily accessible on foot, as well as from a paid platform at the base of the falls. The paid platform is accessed via a 100 meter deep elevator and offers more impressive views. The sight of Kegon Waterfall in combination with Lake Chuzenji can be enjoyed from Akechidaira Observatory, which is accessible by ropeway from Akechidaira Plateau.

The Huayan Waterfall is one of the three major waterfalls in Japan. The Chuzenji Lake forms the eastern end of the Dagu River, crosses the male body mountain, and flows down from the height of 700 meters to form the main part of the waterfall, 99 meters high. The upper rock protrudes forward and there are 12 small waterfalls flowing out of the rock gap. The autumn leaves are surrounded by red leaves and the scenery is beautiful. It is the center of the National Park of Nikko. The drop is 99 meters, and the water of the waterfall is sprinted from the lake of Zhongzen Temple on the mountain. This waterfall has a free platform to watch the waterfall from a height, but I still recommend buying a ticket to the bottom to see the summer. When the green is long, although there is no red leaf season, it is already amazing enough! Transportation: Take the Tobu bus bound for Chuzenji Onsen from JR Nikko Station or Tobu Nikko Station for about 40 minutes, and get off at the Chuzenji Onsen Station and walk for 5 minutes.
