Confucious Temple in Ancient city Langzhong
The temple is located in the heart of the Langzhong Ancient city. This temple was dedicated to worship Confucious. To get to the city gate you can take a taxi, but to enter the city and reach to the temple you’ll need about 7 minutes to walk. 🚶🏼♂️
The temple was built in Tang dynasty, and after the reconstruction, was open for visitors. Tickets’ cost is about 40 yuan each 🎟 It would be better if you buy the package of tickets for the Ancient city, can visit several sightseeings only for 110 yuan!!!
The entrance of the is very beautiful! The area of the temple usually isn’t crowded so we took some nice pictures here 📸 Worth to visit once!

Aoshan Holy Mountain ⛰
Aoshan Holly Mountain is located in the ancient part of Langzhong, a historical and traditional city of Sichuan province. ⛰The place is quite beautiful and mystique, full of Chinese traditional temples and statues.
🎟 The tickets cost 50 yaun each but we had a guide who showed us around and told the story of this place. This scenic are isn’t usually crowded, what gives you opportunity to take good pictures of the place, even though you are not allowed to take pictures at the areas of temples and inside of those. 📸
From the top of a tower is opening a marvelous panoramic view of Jialing river and the whole ancient city 🏙
The guide adviced us to pray in the temple and then we were fooled by listening to the fortune teller and paid additional 100 yuan (we chose the lowest price) to the temple. 🔮 Excluding this experience, I liked the whole area! Will recommend! 👍

Surrounded by mountains and rivers, the city is within, hence the name 'Langzhong'
Langzhong Ancient City, along with Pingyao in Shanxi, Lijiang in Yunnan, and Shexian in Anhui, is known as one of the 'four best-preserved ancient cities'. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, the city is within, hence the name 'Langzhong'. Over 2,300 years ago, it was a military stronghold of the ancient Ba and Shu states. Zhang Fei once served as the governor for seven years, stationed in Langzhong, and was eventually buried there. Later generations built the Huanhou Temple in his honor. The entire ancient city highlights Zhang Fei, especially the famous 'Zhang Fei Beef', which is a marinated and smoked beef. It is named for its black exterior and bright red interior, resembling Zhang Fei's image. These days, there are not many tourists, making it relatively quiet and comfortable to stroll around.

Lanzhong Ancient Town: Harmony of Water and Wind
#ancientbuildings
Langzhong is an urban county within Nanchong Urban District of Sichuan Province. Langzhong together with Huizhou prov. Anhui, Pingyao prov. Shanxi and Lijiang prov. Yunnan is called the 4 oldest cities in China. Langzhong has a history of 2,300 years.
During the Warring States period, Langzhong was the capital of the Ba Kingdom. In 316 BC, the Ba kingdom was conquered by the Qin Kingdom, and in 314 BC, Langzhong County was founded. For more than 2000 years, it remained the most important center in northern Sichuan. During the Three Kingdoms period, the army of the Shu Kingdom settled here, and the legendary general Zhang Fei patrolled the city. His grave and memorial complex are also located here. During the Sui Dynasty, Langzhong was renamed Lannei, and during the Tang Dynasty, the name Langzhong was returned to it.
Langzhong is famous for the birth of the culture of celebrating Spring Day. The author of the tradition is considered to be an ancient Chinese astronomer of the Western Han dynasty, the founder of the ancient Taichuli calendar, Luo Xiahong. The counting system adopted in Taichuli is still used in the Chinese lunar calendar.
The layout of the streets of Langzhong, surrounded on three sides by water, with mountains on four sides, resembles a chessboard. Most of the old houses face north, their windows are decorated with ornaments of flowers, birds and animals. The architectural style of the city embodies the ancient Chinese concept of geomancy (Feng Shui) – "the unity of heaven and man."
You can only move around the city on foot: private transport, buses and taxis are forbidden to travel in Lanzhong. The main attractions of the city are:
The Huaguanlou Tower, built during the Tang Dynasty, is the oldest tower in the city. The entrance ticket costs 15 yuan.
The examination yard served as the venue for provincial and metropolitan examinations under the Keju state examination system. Only three who successfully passed this exam received high government positions. The entrance ticket costs 35 yuan.

I haven't been to northern Sichuan yet, and I always thought it was not as fun as western Sichuan or the area around Chengdu. Fortunately, I had the chance to visit Nanchong, and after spending a day in the city and the ancient town of Langzhong, I discovered that this small city in northern Sichuan is truly a treasure!

Recommended Check-in Spots:
Jialing River: On sunny days, the water of the Jialing River is as blue as the sea, and on cloudy days, it is clear green. I especially enjoy watching the rippling waves by the Jialing River and the takeoffs and landings of planes from the three airports in Sichuan and Chongqing!
Nanchong Kui Pavilion: A protected cultural relic in Sichuan Province with a unique architectural style. Next to it is the Nanchong People's Liberation Monument from the Republic of China period.
Xishan Scenic Area: Locate the Xishan Cableway, where you can take a hollow cable car to the top of the mountain. The one-way trip costs 30 yuan, and a round trip costs 50 yuan. There are very few people, and the experience is excellent. At the top, you can overlook the city of Nanchong from Qile Temple, and the scenery is stunning!
Meiyu 1227: A food street in the city center with many people. Nearby, you can visit the Nanchong Confucian Temple and the Shunqing Mansion, both of which have free admission.
Langzhong Ancient City:
The most famous attraction in Nanchong is undoubtedly Langzhong Ancient City, which is the highlight of this trip. Langzhong Ancient City is one of the four major ancient cities (the other three are Lijiang, Pingyao, and Huizhou). The ancient city itself is free, but there are premium paid attractions such as Zhang Fei Temple, Huaguang Tower, Zhongtian Tower, and the Examination Hall.
Historical Culture: Langzhong Ancient City has a history of over 2,300 years. It was a military stronghold of the ancient Ba and Shu states. Zhang Fei once guarded this place for seven years. It is also the birthplace of the Chinese New Year, known as the hometown of Chinese New Year culture. The city blends Ba culture, Feng Shui culture, Three Kingdoms culture, and imperial examination culture, forming the unique cultural atmosphere of Langzhong Ancient City.
👎 Least Recommended:
Drawbacks: The ancient city is filled with shops selling Zhang Fei beef and Baoning vinegar, leading to excessive homogenization.
🌟 Highlights:
Best Viewing Spot: The White Tower Scenic Area outside Langzhong Ancient City is the best place to view the entire ancient city. Take the advice, and don't miss it when you visit Langzhong! Standing on the White Tower Mountain viewing platform, you feel as if you are in the middle of a Bagua (Eight Trigrams). Locals believe that Langzhong's geographical location is unique, presenting a layout of the Azure Dragon on the left, the White Tiger on the right, the Black Tortoise above, and the Vermilion Bird below.

Langzhong Ancient City
One of the four great ancient cities of China—Langzhong Ancient City, located upstream of the Jialing River, is known as 'the best-preserved ancient city in China'. It is a city with profound historical and cultural significance, as well as a magical and brilliant city of landscape culture. Since ancient times, it has been praised as a fairyland on earth, with mountains surrounding on all sides and water wrapping around three sides. Climbing up to the White Pagoda Mountain, one can see the full view of the ancient city. Ascending the Huaguang Tower and the Zhongtian Tower, and looking far into the distance, the green tiles and grey walls convey a strong sense of history, while the blue sky, white clouds, green trees, and red lanterns complement each other, bringing immense joy! The mountains, water, and city blend together harmoniously, and heaven, earth, and people coexist in harmony, perfectly presenting the supreme realm of 'unity of man and nature'. The ancient city is suitable for leisurely appreciation. Unfortunately, a hurried visit of just one day and one night makes it difficult to fully appreciate the charm of the ancient city.
