Kyushu Road Trip: Attack on Hita - Oyama Dam Attractions, Perfect for an August Road Trip
Travel Recommendations by Sisi: Kyushu Road Trip Spots 🚙💨👌🏻 Attack on Hita
On the second day of an 8-day, 7-night trip to Kyushu, we picked up a car in Fukuoka and headed to Hita City for a quick two-day, one-night visit. We enjoyed a hot spring trip and checked out the 'Attack on Titan in HITA ~ Attack on Hita ~' attractions. Hita City is the hometown of the author of Attack on Titan.
The local area has created 'Attack on Titan' themed attractions, including a giant-slaying AR game that combines maps and scenery, and statues of the main characters Eren, Mikasa, and Armin at the Oyama Dam (Oyama Damu), as well as an Attack on Titan museum.
The first must-see spot is the Oyama Dam statues. Gazing at the three young protagonists at the top of the reservoir, their fearful expressions vividly recreate the classic scene of the Titans attacking and breaking through Wall Maria.
The attraction has a free parking lot, making it very convenient for road trippers! For those using public transportation, you'll need to take a taxi to get there.

The birth place of Attack on Titan manga artist Hajime Isayama. This town is dedicated to his great creation of the manga called Attack on Titan. The moment when I exit the train, there were cut out of characters from the manga along the station. The manga also had an anime adaptation. There is a statue of captain Levi near the rest area. The town also sells merchandise that features Attack on Titan. From slipper to tumbler, there is also beer with the characters. This place is less crowded compared to other places in Japan.

Explore the less-traveled paths in Hita, Japan
☀️ A local delicacy in Hita is 'Hita Yakisoba,' which features crispy fried noodles complemented by the refreshing crunch of bean sprouts. The taste is quite delightful. There are also famous beverages crafted from the local groundwater, including beer, sake, and shochu. Many breweries in Hita offer tours, such as the 'Sapporo Beer Kyushu Hita Factory,' 'Lichiko Hita Shochu Distillery,' and a sake cellar museum located in Mamedamachi that dates back to the Edo period, where you can immerse yourself in the rich aroma of alcohol.
☀️ As evening approaches, restaurants begin to light up, and under the blue twilight sky, a hazy orange glow beckons, promising a table of heartwarming delicacies waiting for us.
Hita, a lesser-known travel destination in Japan
☀️ Hita City preserves a significant number of cultural properties and historical sites: the 'Ono no Komachi Tenman-gu,' one of the few remaining Muromachi period buildings in Kyushu, a Kamakura period garden, 'Hita Shrine,' a farmhouse residence built 250 years ago, the Edo period 'Gyokutei Residence,' and the Meiji period 'Seikei Library,' among others. During the Edo period, Hita was established as an important administrative center. The historical relics that have been preserved from the past to the present are scattered throughout Hita, making the entire town a museum.
☀️ The Mikuma River at sunset is so beautiful, with the golden sunset casting its light on old houses, leaves, and the water's surface, marking the sun's final splendor before it sets.

Somewhere to recharge your soul when you’re on a trip
A local cultural hub that cannot be missed. A hybrid of retail shop, cafe and what’s more - a tiny local cinema. It’s the perfect place for authentic chats with local and if you’re lucky enough, you may even bump into gigs featuring local or overseas artistes.
When it comes to Japanese hot springs, you can't help mention Kyushu. Especially in Oita Prefecture, there are several famous hot spring towns.
Hotel Experience
This spa hotel has a total of only 32 rooms, each with a large and charming space. Building materials are widely used in Hita's building materials, allowing visitors to enjoy the unique style of Meizhi Township.
24 hour lobby lounge, free coffee, sencha, and night snacks throughout the day. At the end of the soup, it is very comfortable to drink hot tea here.
hot spring hotel, the highlight is eating, bathing and sleeping.
Mei Xiang's hot springs, in addition to the private soup in the house, need to pay for the loan cut, the most famous is the public bath green treasure and green axis.
Two baths are used alternately for men and women, so one night, you can experience the beauty of each of the two hot springs.
In the morning, the smoke in the valley is clouded with rain. People soak in the open-air soup pool, a cold and a heat is a wonderful contrast.
A mountain breeze blew, the fog was soaring, and the looming sound of the valley was always unable to see the whole picture.
In fact, people have become part of the smoke and rain ink paintings. This kind of beauty and quietness, at this time, it is only for me to enjoy.
Hita was the territory of the Edo shogunate in the Edo period, and the local houseboats were a tool for the nobility to travel and entertain in the Edo period. Today's houseboats have been modernized on the basis of the traditional houseboat style, and the general fare includes a sumptuous meal. Boat owners and staff will also wear traditional costumes, and boarding the ship is like crossing the Edo period. Sanyagawa's houseboat visitors can dine on the houseboat and watch the fishing show! But remember to make an appointment. We just have to make a photo because there is no appointment. z
Although there are many machichos in the Edo period in Kyoto, there is always a lot of people going to the sea. In fact, in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, there is also a Bean Town, which is called Kyoto.
It is said that the old-fashioned drains and the streets like Gossboard are used throughout the town. The whole town area reflects the rich cultural color of the Edo era castles. Visitors seem to return to the Edo period 300 to 400 years ago. Experience the life of people at that time.
Dututani's business district has wine shops, soy sauce shops, specialty hand-made souvenir shops, and sheep-tasting dessert shops. It takes two hours to stroll here, take pictures, and people are less fresh and comfortable.
Kyushu is the home of Japanese hot springs. The highlight of this trip is naturally hot springs. The driver sent by the hotel has been waiting for a long time, taking us along the Sanchachuan all the way to the south, to the hot spring hotel Karatu Japanese-style hotel on the edge of the mountain.
The hotel is in a forest. No matter how bright the sun is outside, there is a deep Zen. The entire courtyard, only heard by the singer, is very private. The first second into the room, I was attracted by the scene inside the house. The windows are open and breezy, and the hotel is next to a small river. The river is not wide, the water flow rate is very fast, and the water is rumbling. Its a good idea to think that you can sleep in the evening! The spacious room and the table and chairs have been set up on the Japanese tatami. Welcome to the hotel's homemade Hita Taro. It is said to be a steamed bun. In fact, it is more similar to the foreign fruit. It is also filled with red bean stuffing, a sweet bite, and a kind of happy taste.
In order to be able to spend a leisure time in the hotel, we have booked two meals in advance. This is the most authentic way to play in Japan's hot springs, called "one poise and two foods." Stay overnight and enjoy breakfast and dinner at the same time. In order to attract tourists, the food at this hotel can be quite painstaking. Every table meal, in addition to fully calling your taste system, also has a sense of vision, smell, touch, and even hearing together.
At night, the beautiful and beautiful hot springs, the whole person is refreshing, breathing oxygen and water vapor, the happiness index will soar!
The water quality of Hita is good, and there are many old shops for making wine and soy sauce.
Tianbao's 14-year-old shop "Hita Soy Sauce" specializes in soy sauce, which is also the oldest and most famous brand in Toda-cho. The young Yu Temple is going inside, and it is the Tiantians young man-shaped exhibition. The entrance was very inconspicuous, but I went in and found a huge array of people, with more than 3,000 people, filled with several rooms.
These dolls represent the ancient royal family, such as the emperor and queen, as well as the prominent lords and servants. These beautiful dolls are placed on multi-storey shelves and displayed in traditional Japanese-style rooms. Some dolls were made in the Edo period and are very valuable.
Okuda Onsen Hotel has its own plum winery, where the plum wines have different flavors and are also the best gift.
20,000 plum trees, more than a dozen varieties, but only two of them can be used for wine making.
The plum wine here is divided into 5 categories by composition and year, and the price is completely different.
is the main year, two years, three years into plum wine. If you continue to put it in a birch bucket for two years, you will make a whiskey-flavored plum wine.
This top plum wine only makes 2,000 bottles a day and is sold all over the country. The factory also offers its own experience in making plum wine.
The plum that has just come down is green and sour, but it is soaked in wine and sugar, and after the magic of time, it can become a wonderful plum wine in three months.
Experience first, then taste, and finally can't buy.
I bought a bottle of beautiful whisky flavor for five years into a plum wine. After I came back, I tasted it slowly. The only feeling is that I bought less!
Tips: Making a plum drink experience requires an appointment in advance, with only two games a day.
Okuda Onsen Hotel has a two-course menu, and the menu of the banquet dishes is full of two pages. Dinner dishes are based on local ingredients from Hita. The chef is very sophisticated, using a mix of Western styles to create a full set of seats.
Just a few pages of the menu, two pages dedicated to the health benefits of each of the local ingredients.
The most words in the room, ah, how come. Very full and full, but still have to eat the special dishes in front of this carefully crafted dish. From the first eight inches to the scent to the dessert, everything is unexpectedly delicious. Fine dishes cooked with local ingredients, from cold to hot, gradually sublimate the taste buds to a higher level. The chef's creativity is wonderful!
