Niu Che Shui (Chinatown) is the Chinese name for Chinatown in Singapore. The name Niu Che Shui comes from the fact that there was no running water at the time, and it was common to see ox carts transporting water in Chinatown, hence the name Niu Che Shui. Niu Che Shui is the place in Singapore where the most Chinese people gather, and it has snacks from all over China, making it a very popular place for Chinese people in Singapore. The night market in Niu Che Shui is brightly lit and somewhat resembles a Chinese temple fair. Today's Niu Che Shui is a modern shopping center.
