Pingyao Ancient City is known as the birthplace of banks, earning it the nickname 'Ancient Wall Street.' With a history spanning over 2,700 years, Pingyao Ancient City is one of the four best-preserved ancient cities, alongside Langzhong in Sichuan, Lijiang in Yunnan, and Shexian in Anhui. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Entering the ancient city is free, but some individual buildings require tickets for entry. The vast scale of the city and its well-preserved state after thousands of years is truly impressive! It is recommended to start your journey to Pingyao from Taiyuan South Station, as it has more frequent departures compared to Taiyuan Station.
