Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the deepest and oldest freshwater lake in the world, located in Siberia, Russia. It reaches a depth of about 1,642 meters (5,387 feet) and is estimated to be around 25 million years old. The lake contains around 20% of the world's unfrozen freshwater and is home to unique wildlife, including the endemic Baikal seal and over 1,700 species of plants and animals. Baikal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and cultural significance to local communities. It also plays a vital role in scientific research and conservation efforts.
