Petra Islands National Park

"The Bridge Across Time" is located in Petra Islands National Park, Satun Province, which is part of the Satun Geopark. It was declared Thailand's first UNESCO Global Geopark in 2018. The islands in the national park are rock formations that originated millions of years ago. They have been eroded by water and wind, forming uniquely shaped islands. One section features steep sea cliffs with a nature trail that runs along the coastline and mountain range. On these cliffs, you can see different colored rock layers, with contact points between two geological eras: the red sandstone of the Cambrian period (approximately 541–485 million years ago) and the limestone of the Ordovician period (approximately 485-444 million years ago). These contact points, caused by clear and rare tectonic shifts, give the impression of stepping from one era to another, hence the name "The Bridge Across Time" or "The Time-Crossing Zone." ***Petra Islands National Park was declared a national park on December 31, 1984, making it Thailand's 49th national park.
