Geumjeongsanseong Fortress, as the largest mountain fortress in South Korea, its exact construction date is still a mystery. Some scholars speculate that it may have been established during the Silla period. The fortress we see today was built in the 29th year of King Sukjong (1703), after the Japanese invasions of Korea and the Manchu invasions of Korea, to strengthen national defense and coastal defense, and was presided over by the governor of Dongnae. In the 8th year of King Sunjo (1808), the fortress underwent a large-scale renovation. The construction and maintenance of the fortress were always the responsibility of the governor of Dongnae. In wartime, soldiers and monks from Dongnae, Yangsan, and Gimhae would jointly undertake defense tasks; in peacetime, hundreds of monks from Gukcheongsa Temple, Haewoljeongsa Temple, and Beomeosa Temple were responsible for guarding the fortress. Today, Geumjeongsanseong Fortress has become a popular destination for many mountain climbers. I started from Busan University of Foreign Studies, walked along the mountain road for about an hour and a half, and finally arrived at the fourth watchtower. On the way back, I chose to go down the mountain from the east gate of Geumjeongsanseong Fortress and took a bus back from Busan University.
