Alishan Flower Season

The Alishan Flower Season features Japanese cherry blossoms as the main attraction, with over 20 varieties blooming in succession. Starting in January, the early bloomers like the Kanhi-zakura and Kawazu-zakura set the stage, followed by the Yae-Kanhi-zakura (double-flowered cherry), Formosan cherry (white mountain cherry), Tsubaki-Kanhi-zakura (perfume cherry), and Showa cherry (Taiwanese Showa), blooming one after another in the Alishan National Scenic Area. Traveling along the Alishan Highway towards the Forest Recreation Area, the Shiroyama cherry blossoms are in full bloom from 75K to 79K at the crossroads. The Shiroyama cherry, a native Taiwanese species, is particularly spectacular at 76.9K. This spot is also where the station master's camera was famously lost and found last year, becoming a popular attraction. Across the road, another Shiroyama cherry tree in full bloom resembles a snow-covered tree, swaying beautifully in the wind.
