Dreamlike Spaces of Contemporary Art
Loved my time at MAAT! The museum is composed of three main parts. The first is located in the old power plant (Tejo Power Station), the garden (which I didn't explore much), and the new building. The museum tends to focus on quality rather than quantity. They have a total of 3-4 exhibits, but they are quite large in scale. The new building itself is beautiful, a strange space that is long and narrow without straight lines. What exhibitions you get to see depends on your luck, as this space requires something dramatic. It reminds one of the Guggenheim in Bilbao or the Tate Modern in London.
At the top of MAAT, there is a lovely terrace offering stunning views of the Tagus River and its bridges, along with a nice café. Behind the building, there is a bridge leading to the street, connecting to nearby tram and bus stops, making it convenient to combine your visit with other major attractions in the Belém area, such as the Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, National Coach Museum, and the famous Pastéis de Belém. If you are staying in Lisbon for a few days, a visit to MAAT is highly recommended.

A Place of Enchanting Power
It is a palace located in the prime area of Belém, Lisbon. Originally built during the monarchy, this former palace now serves as the residence of the President of the Republic. Situated in Belém, adjacent to the Tagus River, it is in a tourist area with many important museums and close to the Jerónimos Monastery. Visits are not random and are only occasionally open to the public on announced dates. For those interested in visiting, certain rules must be followed, starting with booking in advance and confirming a certain amount beforehand. Only guided tours are allowed, which also include the beautiful gardens overlooking the Tagus River. Visitors can see the reception rooms, decorated with beautiful furniture, tapestries, magnificent chandeliers, and paintings. We get a general understanding of the history of the building and its royal residents before the establishment of the Republic. Its location, contents, and the dignified functions carried out there make it worth a visit.

Lisbon | 8 Gorgeous Photo Spots! (With Locations)
📍Bica Funicular - Lg. Calhariz, Funicular da Bica (p2)
The Bica Funicular is a bit different from the Santa Justa Lift, as it's a little yellow tram that climbs up the hill. This location is at the top end of the slope, where you can walk down slowly and see a yellow tram pass by every few minutes 🚡. Standing on the slope, you can capture the distant sea and two yellow trams appearing at the same time, or find a crossroad to take a side shot of the tram passing by, which is very beautiful!
📍Praça Dom Pedro IV (p3)
There are several flower shops in front of the square, where vendors sell colorful fresh flowers 💐, and the jacarandas on both sides are blooming splendidly. Such scenery leaves me at a loss for words.
📍O Adriano Restaurant (p4/5)
We discovered this place on our way from Praça Dom Pedro IV to the Bica Funicular. Along the way, you can see the monument of Dom Pedro IV and the distant São Jorge Castle. The location is a restaurant!
📍Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau (p6)
This picture was taken on the street next to this restaurant. You can directly locate this restaurant and walk down the road to reach the Commerce Square and the Arch of Triumph.
📍Miradouro de Santa Luzia (p7)
This viewpoint does not require an entrance fee and is quite crowded. Follow the way up from the Lisbon Cathedral, and I recommend visiting at sunset 🌇 to see the distant sea.
📍Largo do Correio Mor (p8)
We took photos from the top of the slope, where the jacarandas are really photogenic, and there's also a spiral staircase that makes for great shots!
📍Belém Tower (p9)
We took photos from the park behind the Belém Tower using a telephoto lens, and it's super beautiful!

Lisbon, Portugal, is all about good food and fun, which are the main themes of this city
Traveling and taking photos in Portugal is a great choice for you.
The colorful houses built on the hillsides🏠, the ancient trams🚌, the ubiquitous taverns🍷, the romantic Fado music🎵... Walking through the streets and alleys, listening to the old ding-ding sound of the trams, the air is filled with the sweet aroma of Portuguese egg tarts, it's like entering a dopamine-filled fairy tale world
-
Lisbon is known as the 'City of Seven Hills,' and compared to the tourist-packed Barcelona and Madrid, it has more of a living atmosphere, with a history older than Paris and London, and the key is that the prices are really super beautiful, making it a great destination for budget travelers~
-
✅Alfama District: The oldest district in Lisbon, with many historical monuments and landscapes. For tourists, Alfama is the place to experience the authentic Lisbon life. Walking around this old district is the best way to understand the city's rise and fall and its lively atmosphere.
-
✅Tram 28: The city's name, Lisbon, is truly embodied by Tram 28. It is one of the oldest trams in Europe. The tram traveling through the streets, hillsides, and in front of churches is one of the most representative postcard images of Lisbon. The more you ride, the more you'll love Lisbon.
-
✅St. George's Castle: This is the highest point in the old district. Climbing up to the castle at dusk, with the colorful houses and the glittering sea, playing guitar and singing with a few good friends, waiting for the sunset to reveal dreamy colors, is the most romantic thing I can think of.
-
✅Thieves Market: In the Alfama district's Santa Clara Square, every Tuesday and Saturday it turns into a bustling market. For those who like vintage items, or want to find some souvenirs, this is heaven. From tableware, decorations, records, books, cameras... everything is available, and the prices are beautiful and acceptable.
-
✅Portuguese Egg Tarts: How can you come to Portugal and not try the authentic Portuguese egg tarts? Although egg tarts are a traditional dessert known to every household, and can be bought in any street or alley, to eat the most authentic and historic egg tarts, you still have to go to the century-old shop Pastéis de Belém in the suburb of Lisbon, Belem.
-
✅Fado Music: In Lisbon's seaside, coffee spots, street shops, or anywhere else, you can hear the melodious and touching Fado. With over a hundred years of history, Fado music has been integrated into Lisbon's DNA, including graffiti elements of Fado that fill every corner of the streets.

Medieval Fortified Tower in Belem, PORTUGAL 🇵🇹
#timetotravel
I visited the Belem Tower after its opening hours so I was not able to go in an only looked at it from the outside. But nonetheless, I believe it was still worth visiting and taking pictures with it on the outside. It is because what are the odds you will find another historical monument by the port!!
The tower itself is truly beautiful and is a well maintained historical monument.
Definitely worth a visit when you are in Lisbon. There are also loads of cafe and restaurants near by if you want to take a break from exploring.

🏰✨ TIPS for Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon! ✨🏰
#wecreate
The monastery itself is a work of art and definitely worth a visit. Once you arrive you will see two queues. The shorter one is typically for the church (free to visit) and the longer one will be for the monastery (you need to have a ticket).
The monastery hosted the famous signing of the 2007 Treaty of Lisbon which was held in the cloister of the monument.
The Lisbon card states you get fast track however, don’t be fooled, it just means you get the entrance, there isn’t a “fast-track” queue. We suggest you head over there first thing in the morning, the queue can be between 1-2h wait time at midday.

🏰✨ Discover the Majestic Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon! ✨🏰
#wecreate
The building is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome, it became the necropolis of the Portuguese royal dynasty of Aviz in the 16th century but was secularized on 28 December 1833.
The church and the monastery, like the nearby Torre de Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos, symbolise the Portuguese Age of Discovery and are among the main tourist attractions of Lisbon. In 1983, UNESCO formally designated the Monastery of the Hieronymites and Tower of Belém as a World Heritage Site.

There’s so much to see in #lisbon otherwise known as Lisboa. From the architect, history, sports, food and coastline beauty- it’s definitely worth the visit. Famous on port wine and seafood, I didn’t know anything about the country besides Cristiano Ronaldo being from there. I was most surprised how diverse the country is. I met so many people from Brazil, Angola and Cape Verde. I’m excited to go back and explore even more outside the city. #touristsattraction #portugal

Belem Beauty
Visit Belem where you can see the ponte 25 de Abril and de Cristo Rei. You can also see the historical monuments such as the Padrao de Descobrimentos and Torre de Belem. To follow this up you can eat the best pastel de Belem at the cafe where they have been making it since 1837.Fun fact: the real name of the tart is pastel de Belem. Only pastries that come out of their ovens can be called pastéis de Belém, otherwise if manufactured by a third party it has to be called pastel de nata. To follow this amazing experience you can even take a boat trip across the channel to see the beauty of Belem .

Good food, good coffee in Lisbon
If you are planning to go to Portugal, I believe you are also ready for a ton of Portuguese egg custard tart hunting. For that, you would not want to miss this iconic store - Pastel de Belém, which literally in Portuguese means egg tart.
Here’s a little fun history. The birthplace of Pastel de Belém is Lisbon. The pastries were created by Catholic monks of Jerónimos Monastery in Santa Maria de Belém, Lisbon, around the beginning of the 18th century. The monks had relocated from France, where similar sweets were widely available. So, Pastel de Belém actually invented the famous egg tart back in 1837.
After all these years, the original still remains the best from the taste and the scent imo. The texture is also rich, and the appearance is so pleasing. Really enjoyed it. In this post I also shared some other photos of coffee from a random cafe on the street, another egg tart stores and Portuguese pork sandwich from i think a mall stall. Anyway, enjoy your egg tarts in Lisbon!

One of the BEST Museums in Lisbon
This museum is a MUST while you are in Lisbon. “Museu Nacional do Coche” has many different vehicles from the XVI, XVII, XVIII and XIX Century. 👏🏻Those are the real vehicles from those times, many of them were produced in France, Spain or Portugal and were used by Kings and Queens. The admission fee is 10 euros. I strongly recommend you to go with time cause the museum is big and you may need some hours there if you want to see everything. They have screens for each vehicle in four languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) explaining who owned the vehicle and when. It is one of the best museums in Lisbon in my opinion!

Everyone who travels to Lisbon, the Jeronimo Monastery and the church are the places to be beaten. The monastery is adjacent to the entrance to the church and needs to be lined up separately. It is recommended to choose the right team according to the length and time of the team. The shape of the monastery is more refined, attracting a large number of tourists to take pictures, and the church is less, but it does not affect his significance. Heroes who lived in the world hundreds of years ago are sleeping here.

Known as Pasteis de Nata in Portugal, the egg tart is a well-known traditional dim sum that is available in Lisbon's streets. The most authentic old Portuguese egg tart shop is not far from the Jeronimos Monastery. That is the century-old shop Pastis de Belm
It is said that in 1837, Pastis de Belm opened its store next to the sugar cane factory. Since then, the store has been following the traditional ancient "secret", and the main pastry chef has personally prepared in the secret room, and now only three people have mastered the method of egg tart ingredients

Padrão dos Descobrimentos in Lisbon is an iconic monument that celebrates the spirit of exploration. Located along the banks of the Tagus River, this site vividly conveys the great journeys of Portuguese explorers. The intricate sculptures and vintage design of the monument captivate the eye, allowing for a deep understanding of each figure's significance. The Jerónimos Monastery: Majestic.
The Jerónimos Monastery is an important historical building in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. It was built in 1501 and completed in 1580 to commemorate the voyage of Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama.
During our trip to Portugal, we visited this World Heritage Site.
When I bought tickets (EUR 12 per person for ages 13-65, EUR 6 per person for ages 65 and above) at the ticket office a few hundred meters from the monastery, I was amazed by its hundreds of meters long "facade" (photos 1-2). I was attracted by its grandeur and the hope that its 30 pairs of towers, which are tens of meters high and seem to reach the sky, give people the hope to get rid of all the burdens of the world...
While queuing to enter, I carefully observed that its exterior is made of polished and smooth white (ivory?) granite, which makes it particularly tall and holy. There are dozens of groups of wonderful reliefs at the entrance (photos 3-4)...
Entering the monastery, I saw that the inner hall is spacious and holy, and the Gothic hall in the middle has a high vault (photos 5-6). The altar in the middle of the hall is decorated with gold and green carvings, and there is a statue of St. Jerome made of red glazed porcelain next to the altar.
According to the "homework" before the trip: The monastery is a perfect combination of Gothic and Renaissance styles, and it is called Manueline architecture by later generations. Many important historical figures are buried here, such as Camões, the greatest poet in Portugal. The Lisbon Treaty, which is of milestone significance in the development history of the European Union, was signed here...

Spent a day exploring Belém in Lisbon, and it was absolutely packed with history and culture! 🏰 First stop was the iconic Jerónimos Monastery. The entrance fee was €10, but it was worth every cent – the intricate Manueline architecture and the serene cloisters were just stunning. Right next to it is the famous Pastéis de Belém bakery, where I had to try the legendary custard tarts. 🥮 There was a line, but trust me, it’s worth the wait!
Afterwards, I walked down to the Belém Tower, a 16th-century fortress on the river. The entrance fee was €6, and climbing to the top gave me an amazing view over the Tagus River 🌊. The nearby Monument to the Discoveries is also a must-see, with its impressive carvings celebrating Portugal's Age of Exploration. Belém is perfect for a day trip if you're into history, architecture, and of course, delicious food. Lisbon city break 🗺️

Just got back from an amazing city break in Lisbon, and it completely exceeded my expectations! 🥰 This city has such a cool vibe with its mix of old-world charm and modern energy. I spent hours wandering through the narrow streets of Alfama, stumbling upon hidden cafes and listening to Fado music drifting from open windows 🎶. One of the highlights was taking Tram 28 (€3), which rattles through the historic neighborhoods – it's a bit touristy but totally worth it for the views and experience.
I also visited the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery; both are stunning and steeped in history. The combo ticket for both sites was €12, which felt like a good deal. The Pasteis de Belém is nearby, so of course, I had to try the famous custard tarts, and they did not disappoint! 🥮 The city’s nightlife was fantastic too, especially in the Bairro Alto area where bars and clubs spill out onto the streets. Lisbon is definitely a city I want to revisit. #trip #Lisbon #CityBreak #TravelPortugal #Wanderlust #LisboaAdventures

Monastery of Jeronim (Mosteiro dos Jer6nimos)
#100WaysOfTravel
Located in the Belen district of Lisbon, Portugal, it is an outstanding Renaissance building built in 1501 and ordered by Manuel I to commemorate the discovery of the Indian route by Da Gama. The monastery adopts the Manuel style, combining late Gothic architecture and nautical elements. The exterior and interior are gorgeously decorated and exquisitely carved. Da Gamma and the poet Camons are buried in St. Mary's Church in the monastery. The Monastery of Geronim is a symbol of the glorious history of Portugal's nautical era and was listed as a world cultural heritage in 1983.

A city break in Lisbon was exactly what I needed! 🌞🇵🇹 The city has this incredible mix of laid-back vibes and rich history that makes you want to explore every corner. My first stop was the iconic Praça do Comércio, where I took in the view of the Tagus River and the grand archways—such a perfect spot for photos! 📸 From there, I wandered into the Alfama district, with its winding, narrow streets lined with colorful houses and charming cafes. Each turn revealed a new hidden gem, like a beautiful azulejo-covered building or a cozy Fado bar playing soulful music. 🎶
No visit to Lisbon is complete without riding the famous Tram 28. For just a few euros, it took me through some of the city’s most scenic spots, including the Sé Cathedral and up to the Miradouro de Santa Catarina, where the view over the city was breathtaking. 🌇 And let’s talk about food—I couldn’t get enough of the pastéis de nata! 🥐 The Time Out Market was a foodie paradise, full of fresh seafood, pastries, and local wines. 🍷 With must-visit attractions like the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery nearby, Lisbon is the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. #trip #LisbonLife #FoodieHeaven #CityEscape #TravelDiaries #PortugalAdventure
