First off, Nadine, the front desk staff when we arrived is kind, and provided us information on how to go around Trieste. She pointed to us the various attractions of Trieste--and we are grateful she told us about the elevator which we can take in going to San Guisto Cathedral--instead of hiking all the way up. Thank you Nadine! However, the Hotel is hard to find--it is located in an alley--and not on a front street. When you are tired from a long plane or train ride, you would want the convenience of a hotel that is easy to find. Once you get your bearing, the location of the Hotel is good- walkable to most Trieste places of interests. The room and bathroom are both clean, although the amenities are basic (no coffee maker, etc). Breakfast is not included.

Great choice for a comfortable stay in Trieste. The staff were kind and helpful and the hotel was in a great location. Rooms were clean. This hotel was recommended by someone that was embarking on a cruise as we were. Close to the port for our sail.

We stayed here for one night before a cruise. We booked the hotel due to it's proximity to the cruise terminal. What a great find! Room was adequate in size, very clean and streamline. Reminded me of Switzerland. The bathroom was adequate, with a walk in shower. No real counterspace though. A/C worked and did not turn off. The staff is very nice, and the breakfast was ok, not great, but ok. It's a great place for a one night stay before a cruise. It took us only a few minutes to walk down to the dock. One thing: the location is in the old town, no cars. It happened to be raining (very badly) when we arrived, and our cab driver told us he could not take us any further into the area, due to no cars, etc. So we walked into the area, got drenched, and found the place by sheer luck. Word of advice: Make sure you know how to find this gem from any drop off points around the old town.

My partner and I spent a wonderful week in Trieste at the end of June. We stayed in the Hotel James Joyce. This is a wonderful hotel very close to the main square, Piazza Unita d'Italia, located in a quite side street. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The breakfast sets you up for the day. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and Nadine's recommendations for restaurants will not disappoint. Hope to visit wonderful Trieste again soon and will stay at the James Joyce. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough

This is such a wonderful little hotel! The location is a tiny bit hard to find, but it's in the ancient old city area, so that's expected. The staff are absolutely terrific. They know the area and give excellent advice. The hotel does have an elevator which is essential. The rooms, although small, are perfectly appointed, immaculate, and very cozy. The breakfast was very good, and there were even gluten free options. The location is stunning with all of the most famous sights in Trieste just steps away. And, at night the area comes alive with restaurants and bars overflowing with people, but don't worry the hotel is down a small side street and I didn't hear anything with all the windows open.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and very quiet at night. 15 minute or so walk from the train and bus station and is near loads of great bars and restaurants Staff were friendly and accommodated a special request that we had.

Great central location with simple but superbly clean rooms with extremely comfortable beds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic find, I highly recommend it and if and when I return to Trieste I will definitely go there again. I would say it has the spirit of Trieste, clean, pleasant and with nice people. Thanks Hotel James Joyce.

-A spotlessly clean, decent-sized room with an abundance of good quality furniture, fixtures, fittings etc. -A characterful building in the charming old quarter of Trieste -Superb-value -Fast check-in 5 stars would have been awarded had the breakfast not included rancid milk, self-baked supermarket bread and better matress would have been nice Would use again without hesitation.

The structure occupies an entire period building in the heart of Cavana. Very central, but far from the nighttime chaos. Comfortable and large rooms, very kind staff. Breakfast in an intimate setting with cafeteria and sweet/savory buffet. I would go back!

Very comfortable hotel in the center of Trieste, with nearby parking. Very kind welcome, clean and well-kept rooms. Unfortunately the breakfast was poor and without sufficient fruit offerings. Much improvable. Recommended for comfort

Very small, but pleasant hotel. Well furnished rooms, new and functional bathroom. Very good breakfast in a cozy room. To be recommended, even if it is not very cheap (which is why I don't feel like giving 5 stars), also due to the very central location.

Hotel in the center of Trieste. Courteous, friendly and helpful staff, generous with information and support. We had a room on the fourth floor, whose windows looked directly onto the wall of the house opposite. For me it's not a problem: when I travel I use the room to sleep and not to admire the view. Small room (but this is also not a problem when traveling as a couple) but equipped with everything you need: closed wardrobe, safe, desk, large screen TV. Very hot room, even too hot, despite the radiator being off. Complimentary water in the fridge. Small bathroom but with everything you need, including a heated towel rail. Walls covered in PVC with a marble effect, clean and pleasant. Bidet inexplicably far from the toilet (on the opposite wall), and shower cubicle that did not close perfectly, with the risk of flooding the floor.

A structure with attention to detail in the heart of Trieste. You can see that it is managed with care and passion by Andrea and his staff. The property has a restaurant a stone's throw away where you can eat and drink excellent local wine. Highly recommended🥂

A little gem located in an alley in a very central position. Comfortable triple room, very clean, with everything you need. Excellent breakfast with sweet and savory options. Nothing is missing. The services offered already at the time of booking were perfect. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nadine's availability and all her advice and proposals to make our stay in Trieste unforgettable were greatly appreciated. Thank you because you helped make our holiday days special and made us fall in love with this beautiful city.

Guests of this property from 29 Dec to 01 January. Positive notes: very central hotel, really 2 steps from the centre. Negative notes: expensive for the services and structure it offers, small triple room, bathroom without bidet, very small breakfast room, poor food and if the stuff runs out it won't be replenished, so if you arrive late you have to pray that the others don't show up they are overloaded, reception: not particularly friendly. If I were to return to Trieste I would not return here and I would not recommend it.
