Overall nice, historical hotel with, great location to explore Tianjin. However during our stay there were some drawbacks: - The rooms to the rear of the old part of the building are really noisy, even though the windows and doors have been replaced with modern ones. It's not understandable to me why a five star hotel replaces windows and balcony doors with insufficient ones if they decide to do so. - We wanted to use the pool/wellness area, which was closed due to "technical issues". No further explanation, compensation etc. was given and this has not been communicated during the booking or elsewhere. - We showed up at 10:30 sharp for breakfast (which was until 10:30 at least) and were sent away since "there's nothing left". Also, no compensation was offered except for some cheap fridge magnet from the hotel's museum. Overall, value for money is questionable (1600 RMB for one night). Next time I will choose a hotel of an established international chain, such as Shangri-La.

Love this hotel it is the most interesting and grand step back in time in Tianjin .. museum and O’Hara bar are fantastic.. always my first choice to stay here

It’s a modernized historic building integrated with burnished aged-fashion-design admixture here and there. The lobby floor extends its wing to a spacious restaurant with semi-transparent chalky glass ceiling through which natural light casted from the above and a cozy Japanese eatery. A few steps out of its facade is a thoroughfare alongside beautiful river; wherefrom you see high Shangri-La signage across the river. Service is fine, nothing to complain about, neither things so impressive.

An exceptional stay, one of the best in China in recent memory. Very impressed with the politeness of staff, such as greetings from waiters during breakfast. Hotel is a cutural gem and had no idea it has such a rich history. Quirky and fun, highly recommended. Breakfast was excellent.

One of the most historic hotels in China. Visit the museum downstairs. Be careful of the antique beds, I kept hitting my knees against the corner posts

Very classic hotel which is ideal to study and learn more about the history of Tianjin and explore the city. The museum and life jazz bar are nice add-ons and of good quality. Room was elegant and clean. Location is very central and service very friendly.

A very classic old-fashioned hotel, with a deep sense of nobility, grandeur and wealth that never goes out of style👍Everything is comfortable and warm🥰It was my first time eating Jianbing Guozi and it was very appetizing😋 The location and environment are excellent. In addition to facing the Haihe River, there are many scenic spots worth traveling and taking photos nearby. Several major commercial centers are not far away, and it is also convenient to find local specialties. It is difficult to find such a value-for-money hotel in other cities😍

Service: The staff are very enthusiastic. After checking in, there are dedicated foreign staff who will send you to the old museum building (maybe we are afraid that we can't find it). On June 7th, a male staff member in a white shirt in the breakfast room took the initiative to help us prepare crispy rice noodles and tofu curd. We would like to express our gratitude. Health: Very clean, both in the lobby and in the room. It feels like the bathroom floor could use some more water stains. Environment: The historical atmosphere is very strong, especially the museum. After listening to the professional explanation, I like it even more. One of the rooms we booked was lived by Tan Kah Kee, and there were introductions and books by Tan Kah Kee in the room. Facilities: Overall good. There was a problem with flushing the toilet in Tan Kah Kee's guest room in the Museum Building at first, but later I fiddled with it and it was no longer a problem. We can also check it regularly. Summary: Overall good, I like it very much! Will continue to stay in the future
