on arrival when asking the general manager (not knowing he was the manager) for taxi assistance to get to the bank, he immediately offered to take me to the bank himself. what great service. this hotel runs magnificently well. the restaurant was excellent, the service top notch. the wifi is fast and efficient. what a great stay, thank you.

I travel extensively through Africa for business and am always pleased when I find a hotel that meets all of my personal wants. The Calypso has fantastic air conditioning in the guest rooms. I rate it a 10/10 and typically this is my largest complaint with the rooms I stay in. But the staff at this hotel is so good that it would still rate high with me even if the air con was not so good. Everyone is friendly and helpful at the hotel. The food is always good, the spa is excellent and good at what they do. But I would like to specifically recognize the waitstaff in the restaurant. They are all wonderful and I feel like I am among friends when I am there. That is a treat for someone that travels and spends extended time at a hotel. I look forward to the many business trips I will make to the Calypso in the next 2 years!

Beautifully appointed hotel with amazing views in a quiet area of town. Attentive staff members, pristine rooms and blissfully hot showers after many hours on dusty roads. The dinner, breakfast and the boxed lunch were just okay. WiFi is strong in the common areas. There's an extra charge to run the A/C or the heating unit.

Been the place of choice of all my colleagues that came to Toamasina for business. Rooms are very good, service is great and the food is excellent. Well worth a stopover when anyone is considering to visit Toamasina for a time. Management (Ron) is very involved with all the visitors and always considering the views, comments and suggestions of visitors to ensure satisfaction and improvements for the future.

Post pandemic travel in Madagascar is often uncertain, with some facilities showing decline with limited tourism, but this place is an exception. What it lacks, strangely, are sea views. Rooms were clean with contemporary furnishing and bathroom/shower designs. Service was really lovely, especially on the dining room/bar terrace which overlooks a quiet street. The much lauded Ivan is sadly gone, but Iando and his young colleagues were superb at managing a lively evening convergence of diverse groups, local and foreign. Good food and wine, not over-priced. The spinach/lentil accompaniment was a rare departure from ubiquitous legumes sautee. My third floor room was above the terrace and reception, which can get noisy, so I switched to a room at the rear of the building. What a rare treat to have a working screen door to small terrace, so mosquito nets and air conditioning at night were not necessary! WiFi in room was fine. The beach and Shoprite are a short walk or rickshaw journey away. I wouldn't walk after dark, but otherwise felt both safe and welcomed as a solo woman traveller.

First impression after climbing the steps of Calypso is the lack of space in the lobby. Only a few armchairs and a sofa placed in a corner to wait during the quick check-in. Refreshing towels and welcome cocktail as a welcome. The room initially allocated put us off somewhat because it had a view overlooking one of the facades of the establishment. In no time, the manager shows us other rooms. Finally, the 415 on the 4th floor with its panoramic view is unanimous. It is large, bright and well equipped, with balcony, large terrace, good bedding, bathroom with double sink, Italian shower and spa bath (I gave up on the spa, the tap water is not very clean in Tamatave) . A small downside concerning the centralized air conditioning which is not adjustable. The buffet breakfast is OK and the restaurant is very well maintained. The staff is so responsive, wondering if some employees have the power to read our minds. In conclusion: a very pleasant stay at Calypso, helped by the professionalism of its staff and it is not an easy task, especially in Madagascar. A suggestion to complete the picture is to provide a coffee pod machine.

Away: a beautiful trip on the Canal de Pangalanes and the Lac Nosive. The return journey the next day was via the "highway" back to Antananarivo. The hotel was kind of a very short stopover between some beautiful building blocks. The building was modern, the food excellent (on a very large covered balcony) and the staff very courteous. The rooms very spacious and clean. We briefly visited a large, lively market nearby and had a bite to eat along the beach, from where you had beautiful views.

We organized training in the meeting room for 3 successive days: very helpful and friendly staff, always available, bright and friendly room with sound. I would particularly like to thank Madame Eliette, the event manager, for her professionalism, her availability, her anticipation and above all her kindness. Thanks to the whole team and see you soon...

Family trip with young child, the staff was very welcoming and very attentive. It was just great and the kids said it was their favorite time in Madagascar. It was the most important. The heated pool was just great for the kids. The restaurant was also great. Stay as you are. We validate and recommend.

I recently had the chance to visit the Calypso Hotel and highly recommend the restaurant and spa. The staff were welcoming with impeccable service. The restaurant offers a good variety of gourmet dishes and I particularly enjoyed the freshly caught local seafood. The SPA and Gym are also TOP and the treatments were professional and soothing.

One of the most beautiful establishments in Tamatave Service, top setting for Madagascar Let's not dream, it's not a 5 star by European standards or even in Mauritius far from it But good for the country, it's not bad On the other hand the catering is NOT up to par AT ALL, it is even catastrophic and distressing The paradox of this establishment which had to invest a fortune to create this structure but should train a real chef in a BIG and real restaurant in France or Mauritius and then that would be great!
