Facilities: There are many leisure and entertainment facilities, and the projection equipment and screens in the room are very good. It would be perfect if there was a refrigerator in the room! Hygiene: This is my first time staying here. The environment and rooms are very clean and hygienic. Environment: A large green lawn, a beautiful and large garden, and a swimming pool. Highly recommended! If you order takeout, you need to go downstairs and out the door to get it. The service was excellent.

The time for this business trip was a bit tight. This hotel is close to Pudong Airport, about 20 minutes by car. The check-in efficiency was very high, about three minutes, and the questions were answered patiently. When checking in, there was a small welcome fruit in the room, just enough for one person. The breakfast was also very rich. There were not many people eating breakfast at around 8 o'clock, and it didn't feel like a busy city. The room was large and tidy, with a desk and recliner. It is highly recommended for business trips.

Facilities: quite old, musty smell in enclosed space Cleanliness: just passable Environment: Colorful school building and long history of humanities Service: So-so. Not worth paying for a room that is comparable to the Hengshan Garden Hotel. I hope the school can be renovated to improve service standards and operating efficiency and reduce internal consumption. Only by reading Qian Xuesen's book ”Study at Jiaotong University” can I understand a little bit why the talents were so prosperous in those days.

We went to Chongming on vacation with a few friends. We all like to stay in B&Bs. We chose several B&Bs and finally decided to stay in this Muyangli B&B. It is newly opened and has a Moroccan style. We like this kind of exotic holiday B&B. The B&B has complete facilities, and you can cook your own meals. There is swimming in the yard. It was very hot yesterday and the children had fun playing in the water. There is also a rest area in the yard where everyone can sit around drinking tea and chatting. The B&B is very photogenic. We all like to take photos and take a lot of beautiful photos. We are very happy. The host of the B&B is also very enthusiastic and considerate. The children also have their own toothbrushes and small slippers. The rooms are also very good. Although they are newly opened, they have no smell. They are in different styles. The children in the LOFT room like it very much. All in all, I was very happy and had a pleasant weekend. I would like to stay here again next time I come to Chongming.

Design, decoration and service can all be rated 5 points. Unfortunately, it was too hot, so I hid in the room and didn't dare to go out, and I couldn't enjoy the outdoor facilities. The hygiene needs to be strengthened. There was a layer of dust on the kettle and the base. I wiped it myself and didn't tell the housekeeper; the teapot problem was reported in time, and I hope you will pay attention in the future! The B&B is inconspicuous from the outside, but it is a different world after entering, especially a large forest. There is a children's playground, a paddling pool, a beer house, a canopy barbecue area, and a place to take a bath. Unfortunately, no one uses it in the forest. I don't know if it will be used when it gets cold. Yuntu is alone in the farmland and is very quiet. Riding the bicycle provided by the B&B, it takes five minutes to reach Caibang Village. The village is close to Dianshan Lake. There are B&Bs and restaurants in the village, as well as a large lotus pond. It is very convenient to play and eat. They will take the initiative to contact WeChat two days in advance and send a menu. If you want to eat at the B&B, you have to make a reservation one day in advance. The breakfast is a set meal, which is OK. When leaving, they also sent water and small gifts attentively, which is very warm. I will come again when the weather is cooler next time.

The owner's care can be felt from the layout and decoration design. There is a super large lakeside terrace outside the room with a great view. You can sit and read a book and be in a daze, and relax and be free. The children climb up and down in the room, and have their own fun. It is safe. Unlike other parent-child rooms, this is really like installing a big paradise in the room. And most importantly, there are no other naughty children. The safety is also in place, and it is really reassuring. My wife is particularly concerned about safety. The bed in the hotel is always afraid that the child will fall off. This upstairs is similar to tatami, and there is no fall. We are very relieved, and the children fall asleep beautifully with the starry sky. The floor is very high, the air conditioner is below, and there is a ceiling fan on the top. It is a little hot upstairs, but it also eliminates the worry that the child will kick the quilt and blow the air conditioner and get cold. The fried dumplings made by the boss for breakfast the next morning are also a must. Usually I chase them to feed them, but today I chased them and asked for two more. There is also a newly developed small yard next to the large yard on the first floor. The children catch chickens and dig vegetables. The boss said that they can dig eggplants and take them home to eat. It's really green. But we don't know how to cook, so we didn't dig them back. The boss is friendly and like a friend, and he also planned a cycling route for us. Treasure homestay. My wife said she must come again next time.

In 2021, I was lucky enough to find Chaoyu Home, and the stay experience was very good! Three years later, I still decisively chose Chaoyu for this trip because it made me feel at home. The boss Renzundu is super nice, warm and thoughtful. We came late, and he would wait until we came back before going to rest. He could also charge the car for free at the boss's house. He is a serious and responsible boss! Hahaha, the boss really loves his flowers, which is very interesting! The environment of the homestay is elegant, the room is clean, tidy and comfortable, and there is a hospitable cat. Returning to Chaoyu again is a very cordial feeling, warm and homely. No matter how many times I come to Shanghai, I will choose Chaoyu unconditionally. I really like and love the accommodation environment very much!

Best Shanghai Travel Guide for First-time Visitors: Top Attractions, Transport Options & Tips

Shanghai Travel

Shanghai, or “Hu” as the locals call it, is perched right at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Sure, it’s famous for its fast-paced business vibe and skyline, but honestly, there’s so much more to discover here beyond the glitz and glass towers.

Take a leisurely stroll along The Bund, where grand European-style buildings line the riverbank, with gorgeous views of the sleek skyscrapers in Lujiazui just across the water. Lose yourself in the charm of quiet streets lined with shikumen houses—traditional stone homes that have stood for over a century. Step back in time at Yu Garden, a peaceful oasis that feels like a slice of ancient China, or feel the buzz of Nanjing Road with its shops and street food.

Most travelers spend about 3–4 days exploring Shanghai, but if you’ve got extra time, consider adding a couple of days to visit nearby cities like Suzhou, Hangzhou. Shanghai is full of surprises—modern and traditional, fast and slow. So pack your bags and come see Shanghai for yourself!

Getting to and Around Shanghai

Alright, so you’re all set to explore Shanghai! Let’s talk about how to get there and get around. No matter if you’re flying, taking a train, or even arriving by bus, getting to Shanghai is as easy as it gets.

If you’re flying, Shanghai’s got two main airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Honestly, both airports are super convenient—it just depends on where you’re flying in from or heading to next.

  • Pudong Airport is about 45 kilometers from downtown and handles most international flights. You can get to the city by metro, an airport bus, or if you’re feeling fancy, the Maglev Train—it’s fast and kinda cool!
  • On the other hand, Hongqiao is just 15 kilometers from the city center and mostly deals with domestic flights. You’ve got metro lines 2 and 10 to zip you straight to the action.

If you’re looking to keep it simple, consider staying at one of the hotels near the PVG airports that offer shuttle services. It’s a lifesaver, especially when you’re tired from traveling or catching a red eye flights. Less stress, more time for fun—what’s not to love?

Once in the city, getting around is quite easy. The city’s metro is one of the best ways to get around—it’s fast, affordable, and connects to almost everywhere. Taxis and buses are also readily available, though traffic can get a bit busy at times.

  • Metro: Shanghai metro fares are based on distance. The first 6 km costs CNY 3, and each additional 10 km adds CNY 1. It’s quite affordable. Note that you’ll need to pass through security at both metro and train stations, so allow extra time for bag checks.
  • Buses (公交): Shanghai’s buses, or 公交, cover many routes but may be tricky for tourists. Fares start at CNY 2, and all buses are air-conditioned. For short trips, buses can be cheaper than the metro.
  • Taxis (出租车): Taxis are available, but it’s easier to book through an app than to hail one on the street. Fares start at CNY 14, and ride-sharing apps like Didi Chuxing can offer cheaper options (around 60-70% of regular taxi fares).

Best Districts to Stay in Shanghai

If you’re not sure where to stay, areas like Nanjing Road, or Jing’an District are great options.

Look, if you're visiting Shanghai for the first time, do yourself a favor and stay near Nanjing Road. I've had countless friends visit, and this area never disappoints! You'll be right next to The Bund, surrounded by amazing food spots, and the subway can zip you anywhere in the city.

Sure, Jing'an is lovely with its temples and fancy malls, Changning District is also really chill with beautiful parks like Shanghai Zoo and the beautiful Zhongshan Park.

Top Things to Do in Shanghai

Here are several top attractions for first-time visitors to explore!

  • Shanghai Disneyland: Shanghai Disneyland, opened in 2016, is Disney’s first park in mainland China. It's the only Disney park in the world to have a Zootopia-themed land, where you can join Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde on an exciting ride called “Zootopia: Hot Pursuit.” Plan your visit on a weekday if possible to avoid long queues.
  • The Bund: The Bund, stretching 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) along the Huangpu River, is the most symbolic spot of the city. Running from Waibaidu Bridge to Nanpu Bridge, it’s known for its gorgeous collection of 52 historic buildings in styles like Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism, and Renaissance. Despite being designed and built at different times, these buildings blend together beautifully.
  • Nanjing Road: Nanjing Road is Shanghai’s busiest shopping street and a favorite for both locals and visitors. You’ll find everything from high-end brands to traditional shops, along with plenty of places to grab a bite. It’s a great place to soak up the city’s energy, and it conveniently leads straight to The Bund.
  • Oriental Pearl Tower: In Pudong, the Shanghai Tower soars to 632 meters (2,074 feet), making it the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world. The building is spirally upward, like the shape of Chinese dragon. From the 118th-floor observation deck, you can enjoy a close view of the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, and the Shanghai World Financial Center, while also taking in sweeping views of the entire city. You can head up to observation decks for panoramic views of the city or even enjoy a meal in the revolving restaurant.
  • Yu Garden: For a glimpse of Shanghai’s traditional side, Yu Garden is the place to be. This 400-year-old garden is filled with elegant pavilions, koi ponds, and rockeries that create a peaceful escape from the city’s buzz. Just outside, the bustling bazaar offers everything from souvenirs to local snacks. It’s the perfect mix of serenity and energy, and a must-visit for anyone exploring Shanghai’s cultural heritage.

Best Time to Visit Shanghai

Shanghai has a subtropical climate with distinct seasons and plenty of rainfall. The average annual temperature is around 16°C, with hot, humid summers and cold, windy winters.

  • Summer (June to September): Hot and humid, with average temperatures of 26–32°C.
  • Winter (December to March): Cold and windy, with average temperatures of 1–7°C.

Peak travel times include Chinese public holidays such as Lunar New Year, Labor Day, summer holidays, and Golden Week in October. For a more comfortable visit, avoid these busy periods. September is ideal for outdoor activities, with pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

Know Before You Go to Shanghai

Before planing the trip to Shanghai, it's essential to keep a few things in mind.

  • Cash vs. Digital Payment: While cash is accepted, most transactions in Shanghai are done through digital payment platforms like Alipay and WeChat Pay. It's a good idea to set up a digital wallet before you go.
  • Language: Mandarin is the primary language in Shanghai, though some locals also speak Shanghainese.
  • Currency: The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY or RMB), often displayed as ¥.
  • Tipping: Tipping is uncommon in Shanghai. Regular restaurants don’t charge extra, but high-end venues may include a service fee.
  • Emergency Hotlines: For help, dial 110 for police, 119 for fire, or 120 for an ambulance.

  • Singapore: Same time
  • Bangkok: 1 hour behind

Top Shanghai Cuisine

Shanghai cuisine, also known as Hu cuisine (沪菜), is a popular style of Chinese cooking that originates from Shanghai, a city with a rich culinary tradition that has absorbed influences from neighboring provinces such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Here are some popular dishes from Shanghai cuisine:

  • Shengjianbao (生煎包): Pan-fried buns filled with pork and gelatin that melts into soup when cooked, similar to xiaolongbao but with a thicker dough and a crispy bottom.
  • Sweet and sour spare ribs (糖醋排骨): Pork ribs cooked with a sauce that perfectly balances sweetness with a tangy vinegar kick.
  • Crab Roe Noodles (蟹黄捞面): Fresh noodles topped with creamy crab roe, offering a rich umami flavor.

GGuest UserThe staff at the hotel exemplify exceptional friendliness and helpfulness. RRiiyaaSummarize in short : they should keep this place only for Chinese speaker, not recommend for traveller with other languages. Base from my true experiences, I booked here the night before traveling to Shanghai. Once I check out from hotel in Guangzhou, front desk lady help me called reception at Shanghai Novotel Hotel Chuansha to ask if they can pick me and my partner at Pudong Airport as they advertised for a complimentary shuttle bus. The lady at Novotel cannot speak English so I passed to the front desk lady in Guangzhou and got to know that I have to book a shuttle bus a day ahead. I accepted this because I read info, just have hope if they could help customer with this, anyway I flew to Shanghai and went hotel by myself. On the way to Shanghai, I still have hope that receptionist at NOVOTEL will be able to speak English. When I arrived there, I met 3 receptionists and NONE OF THEM CAN SPEAK ENGLISH. We had a tough time to communicate. I have my own language and English, also broken Chinese but we still not understand each other. I had to call a friend of mine in Taiwan to speak Chinese to them. Again, I wanted to book a shuttle bus to Disney land for the next day and they ask me to have a Wechat app to see a detail and communicate. Since I do not have China mainland mobile number so I cannot make a Wechat work on my phone. My ********* friend still help me out with this. At that time, another lady came, seem like she work for shuttle bus thing. I do understand that Chinese tone of voice always loud but I cannot see mercy on her face. She consisted that we still need a Wechat. One lady there said, I have to take a taxi without Wechat even though the hotel provided us a free shuttle bus to Disneyland. At this point I a little upset as there is no choice that they can call or set me a time for my travel, _ucking asked me to take a taxi. I do not mind to pay for taxi but we have never been here so we worry about other unexpected factor could happen. Further more, I went there on my girlfriend birthday to celebrate her birthday. I decided to take it here a last minute and I asked if they could have a card written Happy Birthday to her. Only I know is ”NO CARD, NO CARD!!!! bad service mind ever, disappointed and felt give up with Novotel Yes, I picked NOVOTEL because I really hope they provided international services. I was a member of ACCOR PLUS and experienced such good services but since I experienced here, I am a failure. I actually have 2 more nights in Shanghai after 2nights here. I was thinking to move out all the time because me and my partner felt suffocate with a service. I do not talk to them anymore as it is useless T___T I even tried with my broken Chinese but I cannot feel that they put an effort to serve their guesses. No bellboy, air-conditioning at public area is pretty warm. To be honest, the place is good, bed is comfy and we tired from playing things in Disney land park so I extended to book for one more night then I do not need to rush for checking out. I went reception floor, this time a girl with glasses, seem kind and she is fluent in English help me check in for my last night here :) Whole time staying here I kept my mouse shut because don't want to feel unpleasant anymore and I feel like the robot that delivery food downstairs is working better than human lol. Eventually, I did tried until I can log into Wechat to found that the text were written in Chinese only. I still can travel with a hotel shuttle bus even I do not read thing on Wechat (我看不懂) 😔 I definitely won't be back here even things are good. Hotel is providing everything we needed which is good but they should hire people who able to speak English or people who able to use translate on google and else to communicate as they open for the whole world guess. Not only Chinese on earth but also another language exists. Last thing, key of hospitality is ”SERVICE MIND”

MMeikoHAfter experiencing the luxurious service and comfortable facilities of Senz Hotel, I can't help but give high praise to this hotel and their management team, as well as Yiko of the front desk. Senz Hotel, from the moment you step into the lobby, you will feel at home. The lobby is modern and culturally rich, spacious and elegant, and the staff is very warm and thoughtful, and their professional and meticulous service attitude makes people admire. The accommodation environment here is spacious and quiet, which makes people completely relax and feel rare comfort and tranquility. However, what impressed me most was the management team of Senz. They won our respect with excellent management and professional service. From the overall operation of the hotel to the details, whether it is room service, catering service or other needs, they can get a quick and satisfactory response. This efficient and energetic team ensured that every need of ours was met, bringing us an excellent accommodation experience. Next is Estilo Restaurant. The food here is simply amazing! From the diversity and characteristics of the menu to the chef's superb cooking skills, to the delicious dishes, everything is amazing. Moreover, their service is first-rate, from pre-meal preparation to post-meal finishing, every link is well organized and meticulous. Whether it is a gathering with friends or a business banquet, Estilo Restaurant is an ideal choice. Special thanks to Mr. Noel and Charles for their hospitality. As for Ivy at the Spa, her professional skills and friendly service are unforgettable. Her massage techniques are skillful and in place, which makes me feel extremely relaxed and relieved after a busy work. Ivy is extremely sensitive to the needs of each guest and can accurately provide the most appropriate SPA services. Her professional knowledge and enthusiastic service made my experience in the Spa reach the extreme. Overall, Senz Hotel, Estilo Restaurant and the Spa have provided us with excellent service and experience. Whether it is the facilities, services or the professionalism of the management team, I am deeply satisfied. I highly recommend Senz Hotel and Estilo Restaurant to all friends who are looking for high-quality services and food, and I would also like to thank Ivy for the meticulous SPA service she provided us. I look forward to visiting Senz Hotel and Estilo Restaurant again to experience their excellent service and food again.

The hotel provided a shuttle to the airport and this was quick and easy. I would highly recommend this hotel. One thing to note is on Trip.com it is advertised as one name and upon arrival we found it was called “Moonloo” just an fyi when needed long to find it. HhannahbananahI love Yiqinyuan for the calm and peaceful forest, I walked by myself during the last day and if you do visit, try to do it without any gadget. Just bring your keycard. Walk through the tall trees, hear the birds, feel the sun and inhale fresh air. It is very sad that I have a non-refundable ticket that made me not enjoy the accomodation I booked. Since it was the coldest day of the year they decided to move all guests who stays in the container van rooms to their building rooms. To move In their main building I need to add more payment and we were relocated to building 5. It was also an advantage since the Foresta Cafe was there and the playroom (not so much in there but still worth the visit). However, the room we were in was so dusty, the aircon was blowing some dusty air and the carpet was so dirty. It ruined the whole trip and even of they were able to change the beddings and vacuum the carpet it was still tickling our noses. We were really looking forward to a nice Christmas trip but yeah. I booked 3 nights because we really love the place. 😭 The next day I asked again to be moved to a different room, they said they were fully booked but alas there was an available room next to us. The first room was so inconvenient because whenever we turn the lights off the WIFI also goes off. The fridge was not working well, the temperature outside was much better. The second room was better than the first room but the exhaust fan wasn't working. The breakfast was only located in the main restaurant which was 15 mins (waiting for the electric car) away from our building. It was a race to get to breakfast and the seating was not enough to be near the buffet. Time is running and you have Marathon between your table and the buffet table. Food was great though they alternate between the dates. Dinner was also good and had great service but not so much choice of small dished for a small family. Local food at it's best! La Foresta Cafe was interesting. They helped us keep our Christmas pies in their fridge. The only way to order was via the QR on the table but the catch was you have to pay right away for your order to go through which waa different from the main restaurant. So there we were waiting for our food but they didn't really get through and had to end up sitting and waiting for an hour. The next day it took 30 mins. for the food to come. The taste was good serving was big, can share. The electric cars were very prompt and the drivers were very kind and polite. The food again was really yummy! The staff were friendly too. You can buy swan/duck feed at 5rmb/2 packs at the coffee shop at the reception. They were giving away eyemask and heatpacks. The bottles water was also free. The snack at the room was cheaper than the vending machine. It is far from the town so make sure you have what you need before heading to the resort. They have hangers and iron in every room at building 5 where we stayed. Not a lot of English speaking staff so bring some Mandarin phrases or get ready with a translator APP. After a long mixed review I just wish that the resort informed us ahead that the accomodation will not be available and made an option for rebooking or ensure better accomodation it was really a hassle.

XXiaolumengbaoThe little brother who drinks and checks in is also the big 🌞 Tai Xiaoyang, hahahaha, it will make people happy. I'm also very good at playing with stalkers and humorous. I have to say that he is still a glutton👻. This person is really good. When he checked in, he really made me laugh. I said I wanted to eat McDonald's and hamburgers. Xiao M will help me find something to eat immediately... The little clever ghost is also very considerate. Then the layout of the hotel. The hotel's WIFI, Tai Xiaoyang 🌞, also enthusiastically taught me again and again, and was warmed up. I also went to the Bund in the evening, and this hotel is also very close to the Bund. It's good. The style of the hotel is good. Yes, the magic capital at night is very beautiful, and the night cruise ship Huangpu River is also very good. The hotel seems to be carefully managed, haha, the front desk service training is also very good... The guest room aunt is also very good. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the good environment of the hotel, the service is also excellent. From check-in to check-out, you can feel the attentive service of the hotel butler Cookie every day. If you need any help, Cookie will help immediately, which is very considerate.
