Lovely lodge with nice atmosphere, setting and wildlife are excellent. The rooms are rustic, basic but have everything you need. The two swimming pools are set in beautiful gardens with coffee and tea available 24 hours. Birds are fed fruit twice a day which allows you to get excellent photos even with a mobile phone, frogs can be found at night and the lodge gives you a real sense of being remote with nature.

Substandard in many ways. Interior of the room needs complete renovation. Very dated. Poor standard of decor. Plumbing not up to modern standards. Shower is moody. Sink area has now room for tooth cleaning apparatus & cosmetics. Room is dark. The place is far from any alternative dining option and the food is not very appetising. I had a burrito which was obviously pre-prepared & reheated so it was crispy on the outside. The bird table is a nice feature.

This is quite a quirky place, with lots of jolly pictures and fun signs like “Monkey Avenue” The room was a little basic, with poor lighting and shower facilities, but as we were only staying one night, this didn’t really bother us. Nice walk around the grounds and the bird feeding stations were fab, with lots of really pretty birds coming to visit. Food was fine. It was very busy over the Easter holidays, which meant that there wasn’t much room at the pool. Overall, a pleasant stay.

What an absolutely beautiful place to stay. Our room, Heron, overlooked the river with floor to ceiling windows. It was so peaceful with only the sound of the river flowing past. The room itself was spotlessly clean with incredibly comfortable beds. The food was simple but excellent - very fresh and tasty produce both morning and evening. The staff were incredible. Special thanks to Marcela on reception, for whom nothing was too much trouble and who went out of her way to help. The lodge has a feeding station for birds and seeing the incredible birds so close up was a truly magical experience. Do go, you won't be disappointed.

Nice hotel in a beautiful setting. We stayed for 2 nights while visiting Sarapiqui and were very happy with our visit. The grounds are really nice and set in the rainforest. Very cool vibe, especially at night all lit up. Nice pool area and lots of siting areas where you can hang with a drink or a book. Our room was nice, a bit small but comfortable. AC worked great, which is a must in this part of Costa Rica. Only complaint is the bathroom, which was outdated and could really use some TLC. Management, if you’re listening, upgrade the bathrooms! Food was ok. Breakfast is a buffet with several options. We ate dinner one night and it was fine - nothing special. All in all, a good place for a couple of days in an area of Costa Rica not overrun with tourists.

Spent a few nights here in July with a birding group while birding the Sarapiqui region (particularly La Selva Biological Station nearby). Sort of typical mid-size touristy-type hotel – a little crowded and noisy and lots of families/kids. The rooms were quite spacious and clean (with AC, which was much appreciated!) and the hotel grounds well maintained. It appears to be the kind of place that caters to larger groups – there were several large groups of teenage kids with chaperones there during our stay (possibly graduating class of seniors from the US?). Not a problem, but not the quiet, quaint lodging experience of a smaller rustic lodge. The dining experience was as expected for catering to larger groups, with a large dining hall and buffet lines (although they also had menu ordering). The food was adequate (good enough, just not the reason for staying here). Following youngsters through the buffet on our first night while they stuck their fingers in the sauces to see if they wanted any sent me back to menu ordering for the remainder of the stay. There is nothing wrong with this location, particularly if you’re bringing your family or with a large group (in which case I think it would work nicely). But for one who likes smaller, quieter, more rustic settings, the best thing to say about this hotel is it's convenience to great birding and other nature-related locations in the area (and air conditioning!).

We spent two nights in the gorgeous Heron Room, over looking the rainforest and the river. This hotel is surrounded with be lovely gardens and several trails to walk. We loved wandering around the property enjoying the beautiful flowers and the many brightly coloured birds. Twice a day the staff put out fruit and seeds for the birds and you can watch them up close. I got some amazing photos of beautiful birds! It was incredible to see! The pool area is very nice and the restaurant has a lovely breakfast buffet. We ate all our meals at the hotel restaurant and the food was great. The reception area is beautiful and decorated with lots of stained glass, flowers, colourful furniture and nice seating areas. We loved this hotel and highly recommend it! Ask for the HERON room…in our opinion, the best room at the hotel! Spacious, rocking chairs to sit in to enjoy the view, and air conditioned.

This is not the newest resort but I believe they are trying to improve it as there were ongoing constructions at multiple locations (especially at the back of the resort and around the 2nd swimming pool, so it didn’t really impact our stay). Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay as the location is really special. We stayed in the Heron which was a very spacy lodge (with three beds), directly located at (or even partly over) the Rio Sarapique and thus with a nice view on the river and jungle. If you like the sound of nature, this is really the perfect room (but be aware that you hear the river during the night so it will not be silent). The swimming pool is not so big and rather shallow (up to 1.1m deep) but it’s a bird’s paradise as colibris and Fiery Billed Aracaris were watching us from close range. Also in the rest of the resort, you can find a lot of birds and they even installed some birds theaters where they feed the birds at specific time points. Next to the swimming pool is the restaurant. The breakfast buffet has a good choice, and also in the evening there is quite some choice in salads, warm vegetables and meat / fish. If you don’t want to go for the buffet, you can also order something a la card (simple food like burritos or quesadillas). The food itself is more than decent, the staff very friendly. Wifi is only available in the lobby / restaurant area but we didn’t see this as a problem (the contrary, it gave some time off the screen).
