Despite being very concerned after reading some pretty scathing reviews in between booking and arriving, we found the campsite to be very pleasant. Showers and lavatories clean with hot water on tap at all times. No complaints at all. The Fox's Revenge pub was great, also. One wonders what the motivation was for all the poor reviews submitted in the past couple of years...?

8 of us recently visited the Carvynick for 7 nights in two camper vans. Given that it was over £400 each for the pitches we were a little surprised to pull up to what appeared to be a building site cabin and to then be welcomed and given/passed information through the window of the aforementioned cabin only added to the weirdness of the situation. We had requested to be pitched next to each other but this information had not been passed on but we managed to negotiate a move through the window! The pitches we had were lovely overlooking the fields and with regular visits from the cows. The toilet and shower block were handily located and were of decent quality. That said 2 of our party at different times had members of staff bang on the door while using the bathroom facilities demanding to know what they were doing and how long they were going to be! When giving the answer they were both told that she was supposed to be cleaning them. With the fact that this site offers no other facilities it is vastly overpriced for what it is. The pitch and location saved it from being a total disaster.

We spent 4 nights at Carvynick, pitched up in the Top camping field. First impressions were good, lots of space, well kept grass and beautiful views. Reception left us a welcome pack and emailed with instructions for pitching up which was helpful. However, the toilet and shower blocks were less appealing. There was only 4 separate rooms fitted with toilet and shower facilities which seemed inadequate considering the amount of people using them, there was usually a waiting period. Also due to the weather, the floors of the facilities were covered in mud and grass which made the showering process difficult with no seating available. This could be easily fixed with a squeegee for campers to clean the floor after themselves and a simple bench to sit on and keep wash bags/clothes off the floor. Another negative was the lack of washing up stations, only two which again were in use a lot of the time. The fridge storage area was a plus, we used this to store perishables and freeze our ice blocks. There was plenty of room for campers that were using the fridges. We went to the on-site pub which was shut permanently . The smoke shack was being used instead, serving bbq food and drinks but was closed quite early for a Sunday evening. On the last day we used the laundrette facilities, the room itself looked a bit tired and outdated but the one tumble dryer that was in use did the job adequately. We had a bizarre problem with an excessive amount of spiders invading our tent lounge area (we know to expect some insect activity as seasoned campers 😂) but it seemed to be everyday 50+ spiders all over the inside of the tent, the table and chairs and on the car. Maybe we picked the wrong part of the field to pitch up at lol. All in all the location of the campsite was ideal, but the facilities didn't match the price paid considering other competitors in the area.

On arrival we were surprised at the state of the site reception as it resembled a bombed out building in Baghdad. It was hardly a reception as it has no counter and no information available and it seems that it is just an office and that meet and greets are held in the car park . There is not a shop on site . Our pitch was nice and had great views. At £45 a night this was the most we have ever paid but what was annoying is that to have an extra night a £15 charge is required on top of the pitch fee. No doubt someone will come here and say it is in terms and conditions.Actually it is just grabbing and annoying and bad business practice. The site should encourage people to stay. Anyway the tent camping field is on a huge slope with only a few camping pitches on level ground but is nicely cut . At the bottom of the field some sort of smelly liquid is oozing out of the ground and I shudder to think what the stench actually is.The laundry room is in a terrible state and needs gutting and a complete refurbished with two machines looking like they have not worked for years. There is only one washing up sink. The toilet block is best described as rustic and has only three showers. The showers were clean but there is no shelving to put anything. There is another toilet block in an odd position in a far corner of a car park but this was locked all the time. This site certainly needs some investment as they have been left way behind as to what is happening on other sites which have fantastic amenities. This very high price is too much of a premium.

Have been coming here on and off for 15 years. First came when owned by Eric and it was without doubt a stunning park dedicated to RV’s. Had nice restaurant/pub and the grounds were immaculate, also a nice In door pool and jacuzzi, has over the years moved to mainly static, no pool , still has a pub, but just the one area for caravans/RV etc and camping field. The pitches a bit tired, need weeding, trees/plants over growing, just lacked any atmosphere really and this due to hardly anyone staying over Easter break. We booked a day extra and had to pay an extra £15 for the admin to do this, felt ripped off, left day early too. Shame it’s gone down, nice views etc but won’t rush back. It looks like they are just turning it into static holidays for the future.
