On this occasion (having had anumber of excellent stays at Hotel Bristol), I'd say our experience was "good", although there isn't this option in the rating system. The receptionist (male) was fantastic. We had booked to stay with friends who had never visited Opatija before and were a bit disappointed with the rooms we were allocated on the 5th floor. The receptionist quickly sorted this for us and for a slight addition in cost, we were allocataed two rooms with balconies and sea views. So, reception staff - and location - excellent, as always. We've stayed at Hotel Bristol on a number of occasions, and have always been nothing less than 100% happy. Perhaps because this was a bit special, and we wanted our friends to love it as much as we do, we noticed a coupe of things which were a bit lacking this time. The bathroom (certainly ours), although spotlessly clean, didn't have quite the same touches as usual - mismatched products mainly. Again, a tiny thing, which didn't affect our stay, but we noticed. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was breakfast, which in the past, has always rated as a stand-out breakfast. The waitress seemed not to be overly concerned with guests - again, we've always been asked what we'd like to drink and coffee has been brought to the table. This time we were told it was self-service. Fair enough, not a problem at all to serve ourselves, but coupled with the fact that the food on offer just didn't seem *quite* as good as previously (no lovely fresh yoghurt with crunchy museli, just pots), it was just not quite as impressive as before. Especially as we had wanted our friends to love it as much as we had done. We left feeling that there had been a tiny drop in standards - perhaps unfair as we only did one night on this occasion, so will certainly revisit.
