The staff, accommodations, and location at the Reykjavik Residence Hotel were exceptional! We traveled with 3 families from the USA to Iceland with our elderly parents as part of our dad's 80th birthday bucket list. We corresponded with the hotel staff via email before our trip and they were very prompt and helpful in answering questions. You never know when you're emailing a hotel operation if you'll even get a reply. Imagine our delight when they replied quickly and were extremely helpful, even with offering restaurant suggestions or to call taxis for us. We organized the airport pickup car service which made our arrival very easy. With 6 people and lots of luggage, the car size was adequate and driver very professional. The driver took us to the hotel reception desk. We'd taken a red-eye flight and the hotel staff greeted us with a very warm welcome. They offered us coffee, a place to sit, and use of bathrooms. The reception area was comfortable and the bathroom even had a full-size luxurious tiled shower if needed (definitely not a truck stop shower here!). Our rooms weren't ready so they stored our luggage at no charge and were very accommodating when we needed to retrieve items. Upon check-in, they called a taxi to transport us and our luggage and to the building. It was only a few minutes walk, but this was very thoughtful considering it was a cold and windy winter day. Our building was newly renovated and was very clean and fresh. We had rooms on the basement level, the main level, and the top floor. Each room was spacious, had a large kitchen, and clean and comfortable bathrooms. The basement room had a full-size sliding door that walked outside. The top room had a mini balcony that overlooked the harbor. We'd read some reviews about a sulphur smell in the bathrooms or the water supply. We didn't experience this at all. In fact, we routinely filled our water bottles with the tap water in the rooms and it was perfect to drink. They performed daily housekeeping service automatically and we left laundry one day which was returned within 24 hours with no problems. Definitely take the breakfast option. The bread is baked fresh, filled with air pockets and crusty outside. Hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt (skyr), meats, and cheese. This was a great way to start the day. Coffee was included in the room and the kitchens also had mini-fridges which included a supply of milk and apple juice. The beds were very comfortable and rooms were well-heated. Wi-fi was fast and included. We spent one week at the hotel and highly recommend staying here. It was the size and layout of an apartment, with the amenities and service of a 5-star hotel. Things to watch out for: If you're traveling with others, try to arrange to be in the same building. The buildings are definitely spread out and are a far distance from the reception area. The guesthouse itself was nice enough. Note that if you stay in one of the economy rooms, you will only have access to one bathroom per 5 rooms (unless you are willing to walk back to the main house and use one of the bathrooms there). This was not an issue during my stay, but I woke up super early to avoid it becoming an issue. The real issue for me was the lack of communication. I ended up needing to spend an extra 50 dollars on long distance calls because this business failed to check their email or Facebook messages. On top of that, I had to call twice because I was given incorrect information the first time. Note that booking this property is a risk if you book through a third party (Expedia etc) because you may not receive the email with instructions on how to check in (this is why I had to call repeatedly after they failed to answer my emails).

The hostel was clean and warm, the rooms were well laid out, with a safe for each person. It's such an odd looking building, but that's definitely part of the charm! The large kitchen/common area looks cool both from within and from the street looking up at it: the huge windows, and the warm coloured, up-lit walls make it so cosy! The hostel is spitting distance from Hallgrimskirkja, you can see it from the common room windows. This means you're in the heart of the city - great if you have no transport! It does mean you're in the heart of the tourist traps too... so any shop nearby (with the exception of Kronan stores) will be more expensive than those further afield. The staff leave you to do your own thing, the cleaners are all super friendly, the showers are always hot, and in decent condition. It really exceeded my expectations. I might have wished for an onsite bar or cafe for socializing, but everything is so expensive in Iceland that I was glad of the lack of temptation! And if you do need that sort of diversion, the B47 Hostel, which occupies the lower floors of the same building, has something like that. I'm sure it would have been okay to use it.

My friend and I shared a room during our stay in Reykjavik. Two twin beds were very comfortable and so were pillows. Quiet location. Black out curtains worked well. Location close to sites and restaurants. Immaculately clean property. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was perfect. Limited parking spots on property but nighttime street parking is free from 6:00pm to 9:00am.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Cabin very much, largely due to the eager-to-please staff, especially Lenny at the front desk. Rooms are small but quite adequate; I didn't expect to be spending a lot of time in the room except to sleep. (The bed was excellent.) The lobby area is a great [place to congregate and/or meet new people. After a long day of touring the many wonders of Iceland, I was very pleased to come back to the Cabin to relax. My only problem was with the continental breakfast, which was OK but lacked variety. I would definitely stay again, largely due to the terrific staff (Lenny, Bianka, Katya).

Quite a distance by foot from the center… they do provide a one way shuttle to the city Center, pity it’s only 2 trips per day at 1000 and 1700. The courtyard facing rooms really do open to the lobby view, I got a ground floor unit which was quite noisy at times.

When we return to Iceland, we will most likely look first at staying here. It was very clean and comfortable, the people at the front desk were super helpful, the lobby was beautiful, and we enjoyed the free garage parking very much. We stayed here our last night before flying back home, and we had to leave at 6am so we were unable to enjoy the complimentary breakfast, but they did have coffee and pastries waiting for us in the lobby before we departed. The location was just a short 5 minute drive to the center of town, and the person at the check-in desk gave us very good directions for parking and even made a great dinner reservation for us at the Seafood Grill. We had a wonderful time.

This is a good option if you don’t want to stay in Reykjavík centre and just a few minutes drive out, but in a very secluded location through an upmarket residential area and down on a little peninsula on its own. It is so quiet. There are cosy basic rooms or superior rooms. I’d booked a standard triple room and when we arrived we found it was under the rooftop hot tub and sauna and feared noise so we called the number given for assistance and requested a room change. We had to upgrade however are so glad we did as the superior room had a sea view and was so much bigger. It was organised within minutes and extra bedding bought over for the sofa bed and we paid the additional cost over the phone. Great service thank you. I would definitely recommend the superior room, however we didn’t hear any noise fr the hot tub at all so I think people are very respectful. It’s a really quirky quiet place without any service such as reception bar breakfast etc but would happily stay again. Got a great sunset view and I imagine if Aurora played ball it would be stunning here. There is no check in, rooms are left unlocked so it’s very easy.

Very good boss, personally serviced after we arrived, knew that we stayed for another night, gave us a free upgrade, the room was new, and personally sent us into the room, the service attitude was absolutely good.

This is a small hotel located outside the capital of Iceland. The only advantage is that there is a cheap pig supermarket next to the hotel. It is convenient for shopping and the room is small. It is not recommended. The sheets are not changed. Reykjavik should live in the city center, dining is convenient, Vietnam 🇻🇳 restaurants are many.
