We’ve just returned from a week at Tivoli, Alvor, the weather has been amazing, we didn’t see a cloud all week, unfortunately the hotel really didn’t meet our expectations. There are so many areas across the hotel that could be improved, that really would have changed our experience. Firstly the pool areas, there aren’t enough sunbeds for guests. The sunbeds they do have are all pushed together, with no space between you and the next family. Getting a sunbed was also another issue, people were out reserving sunbeds first thing and we saw towels out all day without anyone return. Due to the number of guests in the hotel, on occasions towels had ran out by early afternoon. It’s not something we really expected from a 5* hotel. It’s been mentioned in other reviews, but expect to queue, I understand it’s August, but there clearly weren’t enough staff to cope with the number of guests. We queued for drinks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, booking restaurants, the BBQ…the list goes on. They often ran out of cutlery, glasses and plates. We did really feel for the staff, who were obviously under pressure, but I would say while we came across some lovely friendly staff members, we also encountered lots of staff who were unhelpful and quite rude. The food was average, pretty hit and miss, it did get quite repetitive. The Mexican night was our favourite, but only one chef serving the amount of guests, We did really love the train to Alvor and the beach was amazing. The room was cleaned daily, but was quite small for the 4 of us. For the price we paid for the holiday, we were really disappointed.

Fantastic hotel. Rooms cleaned every day location great. Reception staff very helpful and always had a smile Big thank you to Thomas ( I think that’s his name) at reception. Almost every night we asked him for directions to restaurants/ bus stops etc and he was so good at explaining it to us. Lovely pool area small but quiet and relaxing Breakfast staff were fine but a simple smile in the morning would have been nice A bit “ grumpy “ to say the least. Umberto was just great. He’s the tall one. Always had the biggest smile for you when we walked in. Very very nice man. Would recommend this hotel. If I ever return to ALVOR , I will certainly return to this hotel. !!! Just to say the jet 2 rep was wonderful. I took ILL one morning and she went above and beyond to help me. Phoned later that day to check on me and also the following day too. Wish I could remember her name. So a big thank you to her !!!

Room was very comfortable, clean and beds were nice.Air con worked well when all doors and windows are shuts properly. Bathroom was spacious and hot water. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety 👌 Staff were fine but not over welcoming with greetings. Paulo was helpful though. No outside pool as shown in pictures, this was a let down for us as we wanted to swim and relax by pool with sun. Indoor looked okay but didn't use it . Location was a 15 min walk to restaurants but uber is available too. Beaches were busy and okay. Seen lots of nicer beaches in Europe 🇪🇺 Ciao

A truly great experience!! Room was comfortable and housekeeping excellent. Well placed with a view of the Marina. The highlight of each morning of my 5 night stay was the Breakfast. Fantastic choice and everything well cooked and presented. The staff, particularly the trainees, were always friendly and obliging. I couldn't fault anything about the Breakfast at all. The situation of the Hotel was ideal for me but might not suit everyone as it was sited out of the Town. A beautiful beach was adjacent to the Hotel and even out of season there were a variety of Restaurants nearby. All staff, the Receptionists, Restaurant staff and Housekeeping were outstanding, always greeted me with a smile and very helpful.

I would use one word to describe this hotel -Paradise. We came as guests and the staff treated us so well, we left as friends. We had our wedding at the Bricia Du Mar and it was prefect. The location for a wedding is what we dreamed of. The hotel is low rise and like a little village with beautiful rooms and a stunning pool area. There is a fantastic gym and spa also. What Raquel, Pedro and everyone else did to help us was above and beyond what you would expect from a hotel. They say they are not wedding planners but what they did to help us arrange our wedding was incredible. This a family run hotel and you can see the care and attention they have to make the hotel a success as it is quite new. Everything is spotlessly clean and such a calming wonderful environment. Our wedding went without a hitch and the attention to detail was incredible. All the staff at our wedding were genuinely happy to be there from the chefs to the bar staff and waiters who couldn’t do enough for us. From the bottom of our hearts thanks you Graeme and Janice Cowan

An absolutely fabulous resort. Set in the hills around Carvoeiro. The Villa is spotless with excellent housekeeping daily. This of course is such a nice treat. The staff on the resort are really friendly and helpful. We had a car but using 'Bolt/Uber' is so cheap. The Itermarche supermarket in about a 10 minute drive. A small local shop has fresh bread but go early to get it. This shop is a little expensive. There is a bar onsite which is lovely and some local bars which are small and cheap. 2 local pizzerias. Food onsite is really good too. Pools are lovely. Gym is basic but the lovely 'Nancy' makes up for it with classes from Monday to Saturday. This was a lovely unexpected bonus. Would recommend this resort.

Booked a 3-night twin room to attend a friend's lecture in Lagoa. The hotel, or better, motel is excellent for those on wheels, not for those on foot. If you have disabilities find another town in the Algarve. Some sets of stairs do not have rails, you have to go round the entrance to physically 'get in'. The reception has only 1 staff member when off-season, be prepared and do it all online. Forget questions about taxis, transportation, and restaurant advice is really subjective. The room was very comfortable, the second door to a set of stairs (curled) with direct access to the car park/entry of the hotel area was not. Cold and humidity pass through the doors (front door leading to corridor inside as well), as doors need maintenance. Breakfast is good and varied, for all tastes, except gluten-free options. Internet signal very weak, had to use phone data package. Check-in is only at 4pm. Pro's. besides what I already mentioned: bus terminal 5 min walk, good restaurants each way 5 min walk (one is just next door), supermarket passing the roundabout, beds very comfortable. You can walk to the centre (10 min walk) but the town is without interest, unless you are there for an event, for those on foot, you can stay here and get to know other nearby cities in the Algarve by bus, as the terminal is so close, and it is not expensive to go around by bus.

Excellent
GGuest UserExcellent hotel and excellent service. The staff are very helpful and friendly, especially the restaurant staff. Always a smile on their faces. A very relaxing hotel and atmosphere. The bar was relaxing and clean as was the pool area. Overall just a very nice hotel.
GGuest UserI would love to give this place a poor review to put people off going so I could keep it for myself but that would be doing the staff a real disservice. I can't fault this place at all- the place was spotless inside and out and the rooms were well equipped with fridge ,safe and air conditioning and lovely hot showers. The breakfast had something for everyone and changed each day. The staff are the real star of the show though and nothing is too much trouble. We mentioned we were looking for worry beads and the next thing we knew one of the waitresses at breakfast went across the street and brought back a selection for us to choose from and purchase from the shop opposite. Special mention to Ioanna who was so friendly and up for a laugh she really made our holiday. Great Central location but quiet with a lovely small pool and pool area. Can't wait to come back!
HH MatthiasBeautiful property right on Praia da Rocha. Excellent service at check-in, was given a quick tour of the lobby and room by a wonderful gentleman. Beautiful and tidy room, stunning view from balcony, though the small bathroom window opens into the corridor and at times there is an unpleasant odour from a pipe in the toilet. Breakfast was adequate and delicious, staff were helpful and nice. Overall a great place to stay!
GGuest UserI would not return to this hotel in the future. Despite its great location across from the beach, it was not worth the cost. Our family had two rooms(one on 1st floor and the other in the 2nd)! With partial ocean view. My biggest issue is with the front desk staff lack of care to resolved an issue with our room. Our room had an annoying muffled ”doorbell buzz” sound going off every 20seconds or so. It was constant and non-stop. Notified front desk and a technician was sent up. He basically said it was the A/C and it could not be fixed. I explained that would make it very difficult to sleep and we never had that issue at hotel hotels with the same individual unit. In his broken English we said nothing could be done. Went downstairs to front desk and explained the situation but was told hotel is sold out. After further discussion they offered a different room with no view. At this point we were already late for dinner and could not move all our stuff. No apology, no discount, no concern. On a positive note ...the noise from outside seem to drown the repetitive buzzing. There is a lot of noise from the late night partying, you'd have to stay in the top to floors to have any chance of escaping the music, yelling and car noise. Rooms are somewhat dated modern decor. Pillows are very hard and mildew in the shower. We will not return to this property. Picture is of mildew and view out of our small balcony
GGuest UserArrived Friday midday, pleasant and helpful reception staff, easy check in and hotel looked recently renovated with well presented and modern lobby. We unpacked into a large two bed apartment, three flatscreens and sofa, large fridge freezer and all accessories required for comfortable self catering. We spent a nice afternoon at a quiet pool among other families and couples (pool is freezing cold). This is where the good news ended. Around 5pm two coach loads of students descended onto the hotel with shopping carts (actual shopping carts) loaded with speakers and party signs. Our stomachs sank as did our 7yr olds, intimidated by rowdy youths in the elevator. I enquired at the front desk as to the situation and was met with the news that the party had booked almost the entire hotel out of rooms. The Flor Da Rocha sells the rooms as part of a student party package at various times throughout the year, see screen grab. The sequence of events is as follows; two coaches arrive mid afternoon, the lobby and swimming pool both flood with loud students and then the speakers appear on the balcony’s facing the pool area blasting music. Short lull when they dissipate to the supermarket for alcohol then from 9pm (when the families are settling the children) the noise begins again with shouting / singing / Macarena etc etc. people hanging over balcony’s with guitars, clapping and jeering. No intervention from hotel staff whatsoever. It comes as no surprise the in room telephone also doesn’t work when trying to contact reception. The fact Jet2 are marketing this hotel as a family friendly holiday is ridiculous. No sleep for a family of four for the first two nights of a seven night holiday. We selected Praia Da Rocha as a family friendly alternative to the usual stag and hen locations, what possesses the place to host a two day student bender is beyond me. Unfortunately, this is the second time Jet2 have let us down and we should’ve known better than to travel with them again. The rest of the week was fine although the students continue to come and go, fortunately for us the rest seemed to be athletes / youth groups rather than organised party goers. Given time and money has been spent to update the hotel it’s a real shame they choose to recoup this at the detriment to family and couple guests in an otherwise quiet resort.
GGuest UserModern, clean apartment with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We had daily cleaning of the apartment ”exchange of bath towels, cleaning of counters, floors and garbage collection. Some aspects that could improve,
It has no magic wand, toaster, sponges and dishwashing liquid.
GGuest UserThis is our fourth stay at Plaza Real. It's a really lovely, friendly place. The apar**ents are so big and well equipped kitchen wise. Cooker, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and a fold down table with 2 stools. Lounge has a large table and chairs, bed settee, sideboard, wall mirror and tv. Bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space, 2 single beds and a dressing table with mirror. Bathroom has shower over bath, sink, toilet and bidet. As we've been four times now we know exactly what we're getting and as we arrive it's like 'coming home' It's a self catering facility but has an excellent bar/restaurant run by Bruno, Matilde, Brun's wife, Alexis and Phillip. The food is amazing for a small'ish bar and our favourite is and will always be the 'Plaza Real beefburger' A must try for any meat eater. All the staff are really friendly and most speak English very well. Breakfast can be purchased on a booking system either, a full cooked or continental to suit. The pool is quite big with a separate kiddies pool with loungers and umbrellas. The main *****/beach is a 15 minute walk away or a few minutes in a taxi for about 5€. The beach is accessed by a pathway as it's quite a bit lower than the main road. Just enjoy yourselves because as sure as eggs is eggs we will be going back for a 5th visit ;) Obrigard!
GGuest UserThe apartment we had was a 1 bed (sleeps 4) for myself and my two teenagers. From previous reviews I was expecting a bit more. It was clean, staff were a bit hit and miss (a fair bit of eye rolling from one of the older ladies in the bar), but mostly friendly and helpful. Food and drink was ok, reasonably priced but not going to win any awards. My biggest gripe was the uncomfortable beds. Rock hard and so uncomfortable that I ended up with a very bad back. Only one air conditioning unit in the apartment which was in the living room/kitchenette. The pool area had plenty of sun beds and the pool was a decent size. The location is a bit too far to walk anywhere comfortably. There are a couple of supermarkets within a 10 min walk, but of course yiu have to factor in carrying your shopping back - so had to make several trips. The hotel would benefit from having perhaps a small store selling essentials for their guests. The beach is stunning though and lots of bars and restaurants there for those who wish to go a bit further than the hotel. Portimao itself seemed a bit run down, but perhaps that’s just the area where the shuttle bus dropped us off. It was too hot to really do hours of exploring the town, so perhaps I’m doing it a mis-service. The hotel was all in all good value, and great for my very late booking. I don’t think I would revisit though.
GGuest UserReally had a comfortable stay at this resort. The room/bathroom although dated is spotless and cleaned daily if you choose. The Garden area has is fantastic and well maintained. The exterior has just been painted I seen it happen the interior must have been also painted recently cause it looked fresh and again spotless. The food anytime I visited was fine and never had an issue finding something, I didn't visit all the time cause I wanted to explore some dining and bars in the lovely town. Any staff I encountered where brilliant couldn't complain about any of them, in particular the bar staff at night I found to be extremely friendly. The only reason I didn't gave 5 stars is although comfortable the night time bar is not big enough if hotel is in full swing and to get a drink you would have to sit in exterior part and go upstairs to get a drink. One other watch out our transfer in was a minibus which was fine, but going out was a coach and I had to bring up 4 cases to the top of resort, which is quite a hill a few minutes walk if there is visitors with mobility issues this would need to be a concern. But quite simply put i had a fantastic stay in a clean friendly resort, with a choice of food with a lovely town which would be a 20 minute walk or 4-5 euro taxi, there is a complimentary bus in town but last run is at 1700 .
PPatricia TripodesThe fact that not check in/out is very uncomfortable. It is not hotel, don't call hotel, it's rooms in a building. I want to know if the costs caused by this voices return. After all, it's all perfect location, comfort, at last. I hope they will tell the passengers the first address that we should not go back.
