Great hotel; rooms were clean and reasonably spacious, and the amenities were very nice. Hotel gym was small but well-appointed. Restaurant is large and had a great view; food was adequate, nothing special, and pretty expensive for what it was.
So nice to have a hotel conveniently located to nearby points of interest. It's a busy area, though, so be careful when crossing streets! It's evident the hotel is aging but our accommodations were nice & one could see that updates to decor, shower, etc. were somewhat recent. The shower area was huge (perhaps they got rid of the bathtub & just extended the shower area???) Must use room key card to access the elevator to guest room floors. Appreciate the extra security! The staff was responsive when we asked for additional supplies. The breakfast area was very nice, with great views. But the buffet is quite pricey as are individual menu selections. Better to grab breakfast in one of the many options in the neighborhood. There is also a restaurant on-site, again, very pricey. With so many options nearby, why not experience the city? We found the area to be quite walkable & were able to take in quite a few sites in our brief visit. Our experience at the Westin was positive; we understand the minor inconveniences of escalator repairs, etc. are part of general maintenance and didn't let that influence this review.
From the geographical location, it is similar to several other hotels around. It is very close to Capitol Hill. It is no problem for the 4-year-old children to go by themselves. We originally planned to watch the light show, but the baby was not so late. If you don't watch the light show, it is best to live near the market, convenient to eat and drink. Spit the so-called garden view room, through a window of ordinary size, you can see two walls on the left and right (somewhat like a patio), and a narrow street in the distance. I feel that the garden view room is useless. Finally, spit and stop, the hotel does not have self parking, can only give the keys to their people, let them stop. The keys are always in their hands, they want to use the car or take things from the car through them (you can call or go to the lobby to find them, about 10-15 minutes to get the car, depending on how busy they are). Of course, this kind of ”high-end service” is to pay the money (30 knives)... After the spit is finished, the parking service varies from person to person, I don't like it. I wish you a happy trip!

There is a gas stove and several pots in the hotel room, which is very convenient if you want to cook your own food. The rooms are also clean and tidy, with McDonald's and other restaurants nearby. Paid parking is not cheap, with tax of 33.9 Canadian dollars per car per night. It is only one kilometer away from the main attractions such as the National War Memorial, which is very good!
I was a bit overjoyed about this hotel. It has a stylish design and the shower gel and cream in the room are very easy to use. I couldn’t help but buy a set to take home 😂 There are scenic spots and various restaurants nearby. If you are traveling, it is a good choice.
A great boutique hotel. Very close walking distance to Parliament and all the eating locations, Byward market square. Very lovely owner, personable, and polite and very accommodating. Room was great, very clean and served our purpose for a few nights stay while attending University graduation event. Nice patio outside in the back to sit and relax. The complimentary coffee in the room was nice, but fancy coffees at the front desk area even better, a nice touch in the morning. I did like the double security at the front door. Oh, and homeless in the area has nothing to do with the hotel. We witness homeless in every city. A hotel I would return to without hesitation. This review is from a new traveler to Ottawa.
Exceeded expectations, I didn't expect the room to be so well designed and of high quality.
It’s bigger and newer than a star hotel room, and it’s so beautiful. My family is very satisfied and will book here again next time!
This homestay is well managed. The host is enthusiastic and helpful. The security environment of the community is better.

Outstanding
DDangdaiaganThe hotel name indicates that this hotel is located in the city center, with Capitol Hill and Chinatown within a 15-minute walk. It only takes 6 subway stops to reach Ottawa Train Station and only takes 15 minutes.
Perhaps for environmental reasons, the hotel does not actively provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, slippers, and bathrobes. Please note.
KKseniia KoshevaiaOur stay at Sonder Rideau left us with mixed feelings. On the positive side, the hotel's proximity to historical sites made it convenient for our travel plans. However, the absence of on-site restaurants was a significant downside, especially for those looking for a seamless dining experience.
The cleanliness and overall atmosphere of the hotel didn't meet our expectations. We found ourselves missing the comfort and satisfaction that a well-maintained environment can provide during a trip. It's crucial for prospective guests to consider these aspects when choosing accommodations.
In summary, while Sonder Rideau offers a location ideal for history enthusiasts, the lack of dining options and the subpar cleanliness and atmosphere may leave some travelers wanting more from their stay.
GGuest UserIt is a good choice for family travel, the price is not high, we booked a room type with breakfast, double bed room + a sofa bed, the room is clean and tidy, and the overall experience is not bad.
AAlicia York-BirdI expected more from Glö than I received. I chose Glö as a ”treat” for a couple's getaway, as it was a newer hotel and appeared like it would be snazzier than the usual fare.
Pros: The bathroom was very nice, and the complimentary toiletries are top notch. The rooms are very clean. The mattress was very comfortable and the TV was a decent size.
Cons: The rooms are incredibly small, and while they are nicely furnished, the tiny ”couch” seat was more form than function (i.e. prettier than it was comfortable). The front desk staff seemed very new and clueless on basic hospitality essentials, like how to work the in-room television. It also took ages for a response from front desk on how to work the TV and the issue wasn't even resolved.
I probably will not stay here again nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone I know, as there are so many hotels to choose from in Kanata that offer better, more knowledgeable service and better pricing.
GGuest UserStayed at the Novotel for a week in early Feb 2023 while attending a conference at the nearby Westin. I booked for a really low rate through hotwire. After a pleasant check in I was excited to come into a very large on the 8th floor with a separate seating area and a very large TV. Room was pretty clean although when packing up before check-in I found some items under the bed that did not belong to me. Location was perfect, right across from the Rideau Centre and the Westin/Conference Centre and within a short walk to the Parliament Buildings, Sparks Street and Byward Market. My only compliant is the walls must be paper thin as I could hear the ding of the elevator and conversations in the hall from my room. I was also there a four hour during a power outage in the evening. I assume the outage was unscheduled but there was a lot of confusion and no one at the front desk when it occurred. The hotel shares a building with a DND office which made it confusing leaving the building by the stairs as the stairway lead to a entrance that read ”DND property alarm will sound”, it took awhile to figure out how to exit by the stairs.
AAlex DouvilleWe had 2 fire alarms in 2 days, nobody told us when we’ve made the reservation. Fiest time ppl we’re afraid , we had to go outside… NO STAFF explain nothing to us for too much time. I asked at the front desk and the woman there just ignore me. The other woman that was there didnt either explain I had to asked what’s going on is it a practice or not ? Ppl were actually afraid… She told yeah in the most nonchalant way. Also when we arrived, there was still hair and stuff in the bathroom that I had to remove. Ive check in early I must say but they told it was ok that the room was ready. Clearly it was not 100% clean. Breakfast is very VERY basic. I had to told front desk that coffee was empty… Plus, the first guy that welcome me at the front desk was not sympathetic. If you have the budget to go elsewhere just do it.
AAlicia York-BirdI loved this hotel! A little off the beaten path, but worth it due to good pricing and proximity to Tanger Outlets and the highway.
I've visited twice now and will be sure to book again when needed.
Pros: Rooms are a very decent size, and the hotel just opened recently as of this review, so everything is gleaming clean and new.
The beds are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are lovely.
Cons: The TV could be a little larger, and I'm sad that despite marketing materials to the contrary, we weren't able to connect the TV through my YouTube account as I have been able to do at other hotels, but it was a small disappointment compared to the pros.
My largest concern is how quickly the right-hand elevator door closes without warning; it bashed me a good one as I was walking in , and while I can take it.and brush that off, had that been a small child they could have been seriously hurt. Please get that checked out.
In summary, I will recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a clean, quiet, recently priced place to stay while visiting Kanata 😁
GGuest UserI will pick up on several themes from previous reviewers, but cannot be as generous in my score. The room we had was comfortable and bright, but that is pretty much where the positives end. There is a severe shortage of experienced staff. This impacts the check in experience, the cleanliness of the rooms and the availability of services like the bar. We had a note presented with some fresh towels which apologised for the lack of room servicing due to staff shortages. I had to take the rubbish from our bins down to reception! The surrounding area has many middle of the road eating/drinking establishments, with a few gems within walking distance, although walking round the area is not a pleasant experience. There is high homelessness and you are regularly hassled by beggars. The adjacent construction site starts at 0700 with constant jackhammering until 1630. Not the hotel’s fault, but very invasive noise pollution! We submitted some laundry to be attended to with the promise of a 24 hour turnaround - essential for us as we were on a tight schedule. The laundry was not returned and following a stressful 90 minutes while the hotel tried to locate the laundry which it claimed had been sent to an external provider, it was eventually returned unwashed, having been left in a corner in “housekeeping “. The lady who found it graciously took it away and laundered it herself, for which we were very grateful. I would not stay in this hotel or neighbourhood again.
GGuest UserThe hotel and service were great. The check-in receptionist was very friendly, helpful and efficient. I also had an opportunity to meet a couple of the cleaning/service staff in the hall and they were so friendly and nice. These two young guys had a great attitude. It couldn't help but brighten your day. Our room was very clean and modern. Nice furniture and bedding. All in all this was a great pick for our mini vacation in Ottawa.
GGuest UserThe motel is dated, but clean, and the bathroom had been redone. The location was great for our purpose of seeing Parliament Hill and the area around there; we could walk and save expenses. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The average price for hotels in Ottawa is US$171 on weekdays, and US$183 on weekends (Friday-Saturday).
