This was a sisters trip and we were expecting a lot more for the price. We stayed in a suite that slept 8. Yes 8 could sleep but only 1 very small bathroom which is unacceptable. Full size kitchen with coffee maker but no coffee. Really?? We wanted to be able to go to beach with cooler and enjoy ourselves but we were in the land of ‘NO’ which was not conveyed to my sister when she booked. We thought we would be close to a beach, not 1/2 a mile away. Water was the only thing you were allowed to bring. They said they had a private bay front beach which actually consisted of a sand area with nice chairs but no where to dip your feet in the water. The attendant said we could jump off dock into the water which was not appealing because of all the boats that docked there. Small unsafe ladder to get back up. The happy hour was a joke. Champagne was plentiful but chips and guacamole does not make appetizers or hors d’oeurves. The staff was great from the time we got there until the time we left especially Youmur. A lot of money was spent by my sister and I don’t feel we got what she paid for. Pictures on the website were quite deceiving.

Funny enough, I booked myself the Valentine’s Day special for two nights with the intention of coming alone to recharge my batteries. The hotel was the perfect home base to settle my soul and the management looked after every need I possibly had, which made solo traveling make me feel cared for. The weather cooperated and made their private bay beach a gem. I stayed in the bungalow building but loved how I could move freely between their attractive courtyard, the beach and my “home” on Bungalow. The place was cared for, clean and constantly being manicured. I can’t recommend Palms strongly enough to any person, couple or family looking to disconnect for a few days. Thank you for making my few days on Fire Island special and I will be back again - even full price. You outdid yourselves and my soul thanks you.

We went to wellness weekend (meditation, yoga, fitness). The schedule could have been just a little better planned to leave time for breakfast around the events. But the events were nice and worth attending. The room was small but it was really charming. It was right in front on the walkway. Idk what that would be like in the height of summer but it felt like very 1800s in the slight off season. Room very clean and the staff was nice. Sergio at the private beach was above and beyond…. Setting up umbrella, making sure we had water, taking pic. Really nice guy

I have been a guest at The Palms Hotel for over two decades and this summer was by far the best experience I've ever had. I stayed there on two different occasions. Both times the service was absolutely amazing. Keri, who has been at The Palms for as long as I can remember, probably more than 20 years, is accommodating, friendly, and just the best. She, along with Pat, Isabella, and many others, make you feel that the hotel is your home. Any request I had was immediately taken care of. Owners Joe and Carleen really have turned this hotel into the only place to stay in Ocean Beach. Their staff is well-trained and friendly. I absolutely love the recent changes they have made at the hotel. Many rooms have been updated with new couches in most suites and new air conditioning units. I used their bicycles each day and was thrilled they bought all new equipment for the beach including umbrellas, chairs, and wagons. I totally took advantage of the complimentary champagne each afternoon in the renovated lobby and complimentary breakfast at the restaurant across the street. Rocco works so hard at the restaurant making sure everyone gets their food exactly as they ordered it. One time I had poached eggs with toast, bacon and potatoes. Another time I indulged in the French toast because it just looked so good I couldn't resist. It was totally worth it! Upon checking in, you receive a card that gives you 10% off at all the affiliated establishments in Ocean Beach. This includes ice cream stores, restaurants/bars, and markets. One night I went into Scoops to get my favorite flavor ice cream, Peanut Butter Twist, and Yamoosh (spelling is probably wrong) was working behind the counter. She recognized me and said with a grin on her face, "Aren't you staying at The Palms?" We laughed together because she was the person who met me at the Ferry to help cart my belongings to the hotel. We chatted the entire way because I am always interested in meeting people, especially from other countries. She asked me that question because she wanted to remind me to use my card to get 10% off my purchase. I would have totally forgotten to use it if it weren't for her! So cute! As the title of this review states...The Palms Hotel is the only place to stay in Ocean Beach. I can't wait to go back next summer.

Super friendly and super helpful staff. Everything went smoothly and all hands on deck were always readily available to assist. The Palms hotel was very cleanly and the champagne hour was a very nice touch. Looking forward to staying again soon.

Beautiful clean room Accommodating staff Great location close to town and beach Comfy bed! We enjoyed the property and all it had to offer. We did not make it to the beach but it’s looks like a great add to the venue. Can’t wait to get back! Will return soon

Just got back from The Palms hotel and I just loved it!! This place is a gem on the island. You can only rent houses for a week, so if you need a few days away, this is your place. It’s reasonable. The staff is courteous and helpful. It’s spotless! The linens are clean and they feel luxurious. AND you have access to bikes!l I would highly recommend!

Keep in mind we're talking about a "hotel" that are retrofitted old homes and was never built to be a real hotel. Consequently one has ZERO closets, they don't exit, no hooks or shelves in the bathrooms for towels or toiletries, amazingly inconsistent guest support. Rooms that every bed ( and we were in 3 different rooms) were old and worn out- Full size mattresses- imagine two adults sleeping in a full. We were moved twice to different rooms due to a maintenance issue. Instead of getting us in our new room same day, we were forced to leave our room in the am and not be able to be in the new room till after 6:30p - so we had no room for most of the day. Spent countless hours schlepping our bags back and forth to the main hotel - and despite their best efforts, managed to lose a bag transferring them back to the new ( 3rd) room. Service was inconsistent. The highlight was probably the free hot breakfast that is served across from the main hotel. However, the service there was highly inconsistent. Most of the help are young adults that are here in the country on work visas and are very nice and kind. But they aren't properly trained. The rooms were literally tiny, by even a NY standard, zero place to hang clothes, the largest storage part of the bathrooms was the toilet tank top. No towel bars or hooks or built in shelving in any of the three rooms. Our first room had a whole floor AC unit so no ability to control the temp for your own space. The second room had wall / window type AC that were literally above the beds- the third room had old and in need of replacement PTAC units that were beyond useful life. We were moved to a 3 bedroom "suite" with an efficiency kitchen. That room sold for $2000 per night. Yes there was a living room, but no place to hang clothes- not one hook in the room. Beds were still only full size and all had old mattresses. The blinds were broken in the main room. The sink in the second room clogged and never drained, the first room apparently had an upstairs guest that allowed water to escape from shower causing large leak into our below bathroom ceiling. Keep in mind $485 a night for a 12X10 room w old mattress, no shelf in shower, no towel rack per night room. SO.... I would never stay there again for that kind of money. Actually I wouldn't stay there for half of that rate. Quite disappointed. 4 nights of torture. I was told the old owners sold about 2 years ago to PE group and new managers. With some capital infusion of new beds, some additional built ins, better HVAC, better staff training and some desperately needed remodeling - it might make a difference. I was constantly reminded that this is "Fire Island" as a reason to expect a poor product. I'll keep that in mind next season.

We enjoyed our stay at the Palms Hotel. Since we arrived, the staff was very friendly. There was champagne to drink and some grapes, ham and crackers while we waited for our room to be ready (we arrived 30 minutes before check-in). Our room was the adjoining room, my son was thrilled to have his own room and his own TV!. The rooms were a bit tight but we were able to manage. We loved the complementary towels, umbrella, chairs and wagon, which made it even better so we didn't have to pack those!. We took advantage of the kayaks and the little private beach, even though we couldn't swim over there. The staff was very friendly, especially Sergio, who was a super star making sure we enjoyed the kayaks and he even gave us watter while we were kayaking. Then, he brought us food and drinks from Castway! Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the Palms, despite some mosquitos in the room. We will definitely be back!!!
