we have been spending weekends at south sands hotel for 12 years and although i still like the hotel its looking a bit tired and scruffy in places . I encountered some attitude and eye rolling from a member of the reception staff when requesting assistance with our booking and the beach is considerably busier than it was due to the completion of a new lavish hotel adjacent to south sands . Maybe it's time to up your game now that you no longer have the monopoly on that wonderful view and don't offer all the luxury amenities the new hotel does . Still love it though with all its quirks .

WHAT A FIND! discovered quite by chance via instagram and going by their posts we booked a 3 night get away to chill - thinking the reality will not be as good as the social media posts …. WRONG! Social media posts did not do this place justice - after a hairy journey through the tiny lanes to arrive here took my breath away From check in with lovely staff and our superb room #17 directly on the sea - to going open the balcony doors to the views and sea was wonderful - lunch was excellent as was dinner! The cute Salcombe ferry leaves from the beach outside so a nice day out and lunch there was fab - and sundowners and dinner on the terrace over the beach and sea - also a lovely cafe next door that also hires kayaks and i highly recommend getting out on the sea and exploring hidden coves I could go on…,, anyway we are going back in August to the same room Thank you all - you’ve got something special there

Lovely hotel and location. The rooms are well appointed with fantastic views across the estuary. In front of the hotel is a lovely beach, ideal for children. A ferry runs between South Sands beach and the town centre via a beach tractor and boat. Dinghies can be moored on the beach free of charge, though you will have to pay a licence fee to use the estuary. The hotel has plenty of parking. The staff are friendly and take you to your room on arrival. Breakfast is a continental buffet - English cooked breakfasts are available on request and are chargeable. The restaurant food could be better with vegetables being served undercooked and portions could be larger. We opted for the catch of the day at £30 - Seabass - you just received half a fish and was probably the smallest Seabass I have ever eaten. Certainly not worth £30.!! We will certainly return to this beautiful hotel set in a tranquil location.

Amazing dog welcoming place , stunning location on the beach, ️ excellent , friendly staff with attention to detail. Excellent food, and wonderful service. A very special place to visit. Amazing views. Private car park. Definitely will return.

We loved the relaxed chilled atmosphere this hotel managed to deliver and certainly not at the expense of service. Almost every member of staff made you feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The location is perfect. Can either take the boat from the beach into Salcombe for £4.75 pp or do as we did take it one way and walk back the other. Beautiful walk into the town. Lovely outlook from the restaurant and the food breakfast lunch and dinner tremendous. High quality and full of flavour. We stayed in a standard room which was perfectly comfortable and spacious with a good sized bathroom. Spotlessly clean everywhere. In my opinion best hotel in Salcombe

Just spent a disappointing stay at South Sands hotel, there was nobody at reception when we arrived and when she did arrive the receptionist was rather unwelcoming. Felt the hotel was a little tired. Fantastic location could be an amazing hotel, just needs a little bit of love and better management.

Had a wonderful week in South Bay, in a very spacious 4* hotel standard apartment. Best of both worlds: independence, space, large lounge, good kitchen and fantastic balcony with a view not easy to match, but also access to the hotel's bar and restaurant, which we used many times. Lovely food and a very good mix of drinks. And right next to the ferry into Salcombe, so easy to pop into town to enjoy the shops, galleries, restaurants and vibe of Salcombe.. Stayed with two of our grown-up daughters and we all had a fantastic and very comfortable time. We will be back!

South Sands was a delightful and unexpected surprise on our summer holiday. The hotel was recommended to us by another nearby hotel that was overbooked. We arrived late and tired and were met with the superb, second-to-none hospitality of the Italian manager, Damiano. we were greeted with excellent touch room service in a delightful room with a double-ended bathtub and comfortable bed. The view from the on-the-beach breakfast room was stunning and the best start to the day. Highly recommended for people who want to discover the Salcombe a nudge away from the crowds.

So so disappointing. We’ve been here many times before including staying in the hotel, this time we came for lunch and the service was appalling. Most of the food was nice except a £25 salad which was smaller than a standard starter. A shame as the setting is perfect
