Very basic hotel, they do not have any luggage storage (apparently a management decision since covid), breakfast is sausage links and cheese omelette patties that have been reheated from frozen. A few other things like grocery store bread for toast and a couple of apples and oranges. Front desk is all screened off like the covid era, but also lots of prominent signage that they don’t keep cash on premise. Gives off the general feeling that there are some safety issues, perhaps for both staff and guests. Rooms are only surface cleaned - lots of dust on light fixtures, stains on rugs, bathroom spaces not wiped that well, must smell, etc. Limited room decor, no paintings or anything. Very drab, beige space. My room had a small balcony, ash tray on table so maybe a plus if you smoke (although rooms are supposedly non-smoking). Back side of the hotel was relatively quiet, that’s the only positive thing I can say. Limited amenities outside the room - no pool, no ice machines (at least not on my floor, and no indications where they are), only one slow elevator (use the stairs if you can). Also in a weird area of Nanaimo right off the #1 highway that’s a bit of a dead zone. There are no restaurants, coffee shops, etc. that are all that close, besides an Italian/pizza restaurant that is only open in the evenings and most days only for takeout. If you’re of average mobility, you’re a 10-15 minute walk from the main action in the central harbour area. Relatively easy going to get there (downhill, some routes have stairs), but a bit of uphill walking back. For the nightly rate charged compared to other properties - including the 2-3 major hotels that actually are in the harbour area - this is not a property I will ever be back to. If you’re just driving through, need a place to put your head for the night, and every other place is booked then this might be an option. Otherwise I would avoid at all costs.

We had a very comfortable room for three of us- we slept well. Not particularly luxurious but just what you need for a night or two. We were just passing through. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was muffin- based but enough to get you on the road!

The hotel has just been renovated. The rooms are very clean and tidy, and the waiters are very warm and considerate. I stayed in the same hotel for several days during my trip. It is located in the city center by the sea. You can see some sea views. It is convenient to go out. Some attractions are right there. There is no need to drive nearby, you can reach it if you can't, it feels good, and you don't have to worry about inconvenient parking! A great experience, will come again next time!

The Courtyard by Marriott is by far the best value for money hotel I have stayed in in Canada! The room is large, clean and tidy! The overall style of the room is simple and fashionable, with complete facilities! The restaurant on the first floor of the hotel has a nice environment, reasonable prices, and very friendly service! The location is excellent, about 100 meters from the seaside, surrounded by restaurants and shopping venues, the public security situation is good, and parking is very convenient.

Wasn't expecting much based on the room rate, but was very pleasantly surprised. Modern, new or recently refurbished, spotlessly clean, centrally located, value for money. Comp drip coffee (incl decaf) 24/7 avail in reception. The receptionist Ankush was very professional and efficient. Not once did I see him on his cellphone, he was always present, waiting to help anyone that came into reception. (impressive in this day & age 😏) Very comfortable stay, thank you.

The people on the front desk were helpful and available. The beds were extremely comfortable and lots of pillows were provided. The air conditioning works and I was grateful for it. The room comes with a microwave, hot plate, kitchen sink and small refrigerator. That was great. However, the floor was filthy. I couldn't walk around barefoot because my feet got soot black in no time. When I stepped into the tub, I was horrified to see my own black footprints smeared in the tub. I stayed at this motel for four nights and the same long black hair from a previous guest, stayed on the bathroom floor. If I didn't wear something on my feet they got filthy. I reported the state of the floor to the front desk on the first night of my four night stay. The receptionist was so apologetic and that was nice, however nothing was done and the floor remained filthy for the duration of my stay. I lay my things out as I like them on the table countertops, but they were all rearranged when I got back at the end of the day. I don't like people touching my stuff so that irritated me. Perhaps staff look at it as tidying up, but I look at it it's interfering with my personal possessions. It would have appreciated if they'd wash the floor rather than spend time rearranging my things. It's not theirs to touch. Having said all this, the positives I mentioned at the beginning of this review, still stand. But if you don't like dirty floors, I would have a chat with the front desk before checking in, to be sure the cleaners are doing their job and the floor of the suite you rent is mopped and clean.

This hotel is a bit biased on Victoria Island. If it is not self-driving, it is very inconvenient. The hotel is relatively new. The facilities are relatively complete. There are hot springs. Facing a small lake, it was quite peaceful. There is a kitchen, but we don’t have time to cook by ourselves. The breakfast at the hotel is good, you can make your own waffles. Did not see the Chinese. Because there was only a foreign couple who went to the hot springs late. There is free parking.

Just a kilometer or two from the downtown core, the Grand Hotel is nestled near the malls and restaurant area. We were 3 (senior) sisters, one of whom was scheduled for eye surgery. Though we arrived just past noon, we were able to check in. The patient was able to nap as this is a quiet area. We chose an upgrade, a slightly larger room with a fireplace with a juliette balcony. Parking was convenient, right below our window. It was Valentine's Day! and we couldn't get a dinner reservation in any nearby restaurants. We declined the Sweetheart Special at the Grand as it was a bit pricy. Susie, the dining room hostess, asked the kitchen to accommodate us. They created braised ribs, mashed potatoes and vegetables for $45pp. Fair value and good food. The dining area is set up for quiet chat and eating, with a decor that absorbs the sound and pleases the eye. The room also had a frig and microwave. The shampoo and conditioner were exceptional quality. We had no issues and will stay again when the sister gets her follow up surgery. The desk clerk was courteous and accommodating, esp with our early check in. The total for an overnight stay for 3 people was less than $200.

GGuest UserThis was my first time ever staying here and I was very impressed. I will definitely be coming back to the Bayside Resort in the future.
The staff from the moment I walked in the door were amazing. They were super polite and very helpful and very informative for all my questions and needs. The room was very clean and beds were very comfortable. I came there for a relaxing weekend and got just that. The restaurant and lounge staff were so nice and on the ball. It was very busy there but they never skipped a beat and always made me feel like I was the only one in the room. I was super impressed with this.
It was disappointing that there was no hot tub as it was dealing with repairs at the time, hey these things happen, but the pool was great and the workout room/gym was very impressive as well.
Location of this resort is amazing, honestly can’t get much better. Spectacular views on beachfront to one the most popular beaches in this region. What a beautiful spot!!
I feel like I can go on and on, all and all I had a great experience at the Bayside Resort and I will definitely be back soon!!
WWencunzisuThe location of the hotel, nothing to say! Minutes from Parksville Beach! Every evening, walking out from the back door of the resort is the beach. The long boardwalk stretches along the beach to a long distance.
Accompanied by the setting sun, couples are walking hand in hand, the elderly are leaning on crutches and sitting in wheelchairs, enjoying the fresh air by the sea and the beautiful sunset...
The restaurant of the resort is a beautiful place for delicious food. In the evening, you can dine in the very emotional outdoor transparent restaurant in the backyard, which is unique!
If it is not enough, the resort may have been built for a long time, and the facilities are a bit old, especially the elevator. The Tower Building only has one elevator, and the elevator and cargo elevator are mixed. Every time I have to wait for a long time, and I am stubborn...It is incomparable with the three-star hotel resorts in China...
But the flaws do not conceal the virtues! The hotel's environment is first-class, and the beach view at dusk is beautiful!

This complaint involves a very troubling incident that took place at the Qualicum Beach Inn, Vancouver Island, on May 17th. We were assigned Room 105 when we initially booked into the hotel and paid $550.00 for our two night stay. First impressions of the room was that it was kinda dirty and not recently made up. Further inspection bore this out. Obvious that the floors had not been cleaned. The sheets on the first bed had not been changed as evident by the hair and flakes of skin on the sheets. The inspection of the second bed revealed something much more disgusting that we have never encountered on all our years of travel. There were several large brownish stains on the bottom sheet that appeared to be some type of bodily fluid. This was totally gross and could have posed a serious health hazard if the stains had contained an active pathogen of some type. We immediately reported this to Brad, the night manager, shortly after 8:00 PM on the 17th. Brad was rather muted in his response. He showed little emotion and did not offer an apology of any kind. He did acknowledge that this was not acceptable. I was very upset and told Brad I wanted a clean room. He gave us another room on the second floor for the remainder of our two night stay. We are very disappointed and upset how this whole situation was handled by Qualicum Beach management. The hotel took the position that the replacement room on the second floor was considered an upgrade which represented adequate compensation for our inconvenience. We never requested an upgraded room. We were puzzled by the hotel’s indifference to our outrage over the unsanitary conditions in the room. We were both very upset and distressed by the lack of an empathetic response to our situation. Most reputable hotels would have bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of. Instead, we get ‘attitude’ from Brad and No Apology. The reality is that the Qualicum Beach Inn dropped the ball on this one. Disgusting dirty room, poor customer service and attitude. To address our concerns we expect an apology from the Qualicum Beach Inn and monetary compensation for our stress, anxiety and inconvenience caused by this incident. We sent a detailed email on May 22nd with photos of the soiled sheets to the General Manager, Irina Ciumac, outlining the basis of our complaint and our expectations for a resolution. We have not received a response of any kind from the Qualicum Beach Inn regarding this incident.
I had stayed at this motel in July for 1 night under the Air B and B and loved it. It was peaceful and where as we had neighbours on both sides, (one side had a family with young children.) Both were quiet and respectful of the space. Yes the place does need some repairs and painting but I saw that they were working on it so I was fine with that. Because of my experience in July, I took my older mother there for 2 days in August for some R and R due to some hard stuff going on in our family. Sadly that experience was very different. Lets start with the positives Location: Great location with the beach steps away and the boardwalk for walking, riding or jogging Free mini golf, A nice big grassy field in front with fire pits, volleyball net and swings. Lots of space for kids and families to roam around. Kitchenette; A full size fridge and very well stocked with appliances. Comfy beds Sadly, there were many CONS: Inside, our room had a broken patio door latch but I could use my thumb to lock it. When I went to report it the next morning, I was informed that there was a lock at the bottom to use. We should have been informed of that when we checked in. The bathmat was disintegrating and did not stick to the bottom of the tub and bits were coming off. I reported that the next day and was informed that “they would find me a new one if they had one”. We did receive a brand new one later that day. On one of the beds, the bedskirt was thrashed. It looked like a cat had ripped it apart. Boundaries: When we arrived, we had a family on one side that had a lot of people including young children and they spilled into our area a bit. The chairs were set up in a way that some people were looking directly at us whether we were inside or out. We chose to eat inside with the curtains closed as we did not want to be continually stared at. Later we had gone off and when we came back, the young children had left stuff on our picnic table and the adults allowed the children to ride their bikes on the cement patios right outside the patio door. The kids would stop in front of our door and stare at us. I don’t blame the children as they were young but no one stopped that behaviour. I love that the motel is family friendly and there is lots of room for the kids to roam. But that does not mean right outside our door in our patio area. Not sure that management could have done anything about that. Noise: We did go out later as the family had left for a while, but the other neighbours were very loud outside and smoking on the patio as well. Smoking anything is supposed to be 3 meters away. The smell drove us back inside. They woke us up around 1am both with loud voices in the next room and there was yelling and screaming in the parking lot along with horn honking and a motorcycle reving for a good few minutes. As there is no staff after midnight, they couldn’t have dealt with the situation anyway. Thankfully, we were leaving the next day otherwise we would h
SSueCodeWe found this place not long after we got off the ferry at Departure Bay, Nanaimo , on the island, in Parksville . We didn't have a reservation, so my husband just went in and asked if they had a room. They did have one reasonably priced, so we took it for the night. Thanks for the popcorn ! We were also able to have our 2 little dogs there, which was great ! When we got in the room, I tried to turn the ac on, but it smelled dusty, so I shut it off. There wasn't any cover or filter on it, and it was dusty inside of it, so I left it off. We were only staying one night, so it was no big deal and wasn't too hot. Later thay evening we decided to see if we could get the room for another night and we were able to get the same room. It was, however, warmer the next night, so it would have been nice to put it on. The parking is free and well lit. There was a path close by to go down to the beach and a nice outdoor sitting area at the Inn. There is also an amusement place right next door with mimi golf, bumper boats, gelato, as well as other food. The room was clean with a table and chairs, a fridge, and a sm freezer and close to the departure bay ferry terminal. I would stay again if I got a room with working ac.
Parents of neurodivergent children BEWARE!! We were visiting family for the day and spent most of our time at the pool. The lifeguard on duty was horrific, she abused her power and was often yelling unnecessarily at the kids trying to have fun. After yelling at my autistic son for going down the slide with his little sister, my sister ( who was watching him at the moment) approached the lifeguard and explained that my son was neurodivergent and would not respond well to her yelling at him, so if he did something that needed to be corrected could she please let my sister or myself know so we can talk to my son ourselves which would greatly reduce the risk of a meltdown. The lifeguard looked her in the face and said “ I will NOT do that, kids need to listen to ME and learn to listen to other people besides their parents.” After trying to explain again why this wouldn’t work for my son, the lifeguard became even more aggressive in the way she was speaking to my sister. It was shocking. Shortly after a young boy with Down syndrome was eating his ice cream by the pool, the lifeguard marched over there and yelled at the boy, “you can’t have that here!!” Grabbed the ice cream out of his hand and took it to his mother who was sitting by the fence. Everyone sitting there was horrified. It was really sad to watch the little guy so confused and upset while he was on vacation just trying to have fun. If your job is to monitor kids, it is crucial that you are sensitive to the neurodiversity of children and are properly trained to handle their uniqueness in a respectful manner. When you are approached by a caregiver who explains the needed way to deal with a neurodivergent child and decide that you are more equipped to handle that child using force and aggression, YOU are in the wrong job. That life guard is very lucky that it was my sister she was dealing with and not me. I will not recommend this resort to anyone. I am extremely disappointed and shocked.
JJohn GI don't know what other people would expect if I said excellent but that was our experience. We were at the end of a two week holiday on Vancouver Island. We stayed at a name brand hotel on the way up island at twice the price, but it certainly was not twice as good; in fact I would say our room was not as large as the name brand but that was the only difference. Harbour Light had everything we needed for one night: comfortable beds, frig, microwave, wi-fi, and coffee maker. The place was clean and the attendant at the desk was helpful in every way. He recommended the MGM restaurant next door with a 10% discount and between the two we had a good evening before we caught the ferry to the mainland the next morning.
Stayed here for 2 nights on our way up Island on a week long trip. Had our 2 small dogs. We were so pleasantly surprised as we had read some bad reviews after booking. Possibly we stayed after a renovation. Dont know, but our room was spacious, bright and had very comfy beds and pillows, a little frig, micro and Kuerig. Nice big towels..(a MUST at a hotel at this price) everything very clean. A GREAT shower! Continental breakfast. I loved no carpets, having dogs, though they are well trained, but you never know. If I have and complaint it would be the lighting, which is recessed. No way to choose to light the beds only for reading and the bedside lamp is useless for that purpose. We love Parksville and would stay again, and would recommend.
Contrary to a number of reviews, we had a good stay here. Not the nicest area of Nanaimo, but convenient along the main road from the ferry. Family suite was a full 2br apartment, clean but not brand new. The gentleman at the front desk was courteous and helpful. DQ across the street. They only rent to out of towners now, which may have been why we had a nice quiet stay.
