I do not enjoy writing negative reviews, but we were quite disappointed with our stay. So, to avoid being too personal, just the simple facts . We were not informed that the pools were closed and there was no information prior to arrival about renovation and construction work on the side. Of course, it's good to renovate and improve, but inform your guests! Our room was fine recently renovated and restyled. Dinner was a great disappointment. The lady was very impatient with us. We felt not being treated very well. We just wanted some time to overlook the menu and then decide. Not being rushed. Food quality soso. Breakfast is very disappointing. Sliced fruit old and dried out. Yesterday's left over! Hot items to be ordered separately from the cooking station, the chef not to be found. When finally he apparently prepared our eggs, he walked back to the kitchen and pointed out the eggs were ready and waiting. Why not bring them when passing by our table? In total, 8 guests in the restaurant for breakfast . So it was very possible for him to show some effort. Evening/night time, horrible industry smell outside on balcony from nearby gas and oil station next to harbour area. To end and conclude. We felt very disappointed and upset. Beach beautiful, though.
Response from Property: Dear Mr. Van Der Holst, Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to respond to our survey in relation to your stay at Parador de Mazagón . We regret that we were unable to meet your expectations. In future occasions we encourage you to visit our website to see the range of services available and thus avoid misunderstandings. Regarding the catering services, we will study what happened with the team in order to continue improving the experience of our customers. We will be delighted to see you again soon! Yours sincerely, Diego Sánchez Recepción

We had a repeated stay in Parador Mazagon as we like the beach and surroundings so much. Unfortunately the service in the Parador is getting worse every year, especially concerning the breakfast buffet. While in previous years at least a a piece of tortilla was available at the chef’s cooking station, every few days great large french croissants were served and tomatoes or even salad was an option, none of the above is available now. There are very limited options especially for vegetarians (contrary for instance e to wonderful Parador Cadiz). Ok, there are fruits. But it is up to the clients to pick the strawberries or kiwis that are not yet partly rotten. While for dinner great dark bread is served, for breakfast only cheap mostly white bread is available. Pastries and biscuits must be weeks old. The only highlight is the almond tarte, which however is not an invention of Parador Mazagon, but is served in all Paradors across Spain. The indoor pool is closed even when the outdoor cool ist still much too cold for swimming. In the fitness studio no water or towels are available. There are no side tables to the sunbeds to be found anymore. The grass around the pool area is partly brown and you you will be stitched by thorns if you walk barefoot. I also don’t understand why at the top of the (certainly necessary) fence around the premises a barbed wire is required - somewhat constraining the wonderful view. Some of the staff is are really friendly and efficient, especially the cleaning ladies or the chief breakfast waitress. All in all, Parador Mazagon however seems to be managed as a hotel designed for visitors staying just one or two nights and for receptions at weekends. Then it is certainly a perfect place to stay. For longer stays we will probably look for other places in the future. At some time we will however return due to the wonderful surroundings redeeming any deficiencies of the Parador.

Nice hotel in a lovely secluded spot next to a national park. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and very patient with our basic Spanish and poor accents! The room was nice with a large balcony overlooking the pool and gardens and the bed was large and very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food as very good, but there is also a decent menu in the bar where we ate on the second night. Beware the gin and tonics if you are looking to stay clear headed! The beach is spectacular - goes on for miles and in April was virtually deserted. We added a couple of nights here at the last minute on our trip to Seville (about 90 minutes drive on the non motorway route) and so glad we did. Would definitely go back out of season, not sure what it would be like in the height of summer.
Response from Property: Dear Mr. Emteekay, Thank you for your opinion about your stay in this establishment. We are glad that you enjoyed our surroundings and our facilities. We would be delighted if you could visit us again soon. Best regards Martín Orta Reception

This Parador is in one of the best locations, beautiful scenery, beautiful gardens and a lovely swimming pool. You can also walk down to the beach from the gardens. Staff are excellent throughout as well as the restaurant.

Great quiet remote location next to empty beach. Lovely swimming pool which was open in October (hooray!). Restaurants were good, rooms very clean and quiet and comfortable. Friendly helpful staff. All in all, great value for a lovely hotel.

This hotel has a fantastic location abobe an absolutely beautiful beach. Late October is apparently off season already, so we were able to walk along the beach for miles without seining a soul. As with the Paradores in general, Mazagon didn’t disappoint. Landmark location, beautiful hotel with impressive service rooms and facilities. The staff was great again. They even managed to listen to my Duolingo Spanish with a straight face. Breakfast selection is borderline ridiculous, so be prepared to spend some time. I enrolled in their Amigo program. Pretty good benefits. Would definitely recommend if you travel around Spain.
Response from Property: Dear Guest, Thank you for your visit and for the time you have spent to let us know your opinion about our Parador. We are pleased to learn that you have enjoyed your stay and our beautiful region, usually not so well-known and that you have described in such kind words We would be delighted if you could visit us again anytime. Best regards, Toñi Sánchez. Reepción

This Paradore is very very dated in its decor and furniture. The pool area is not looked after with dead grass in many places on the lawn through non watering. The chairs and tables on its outside terrace were of very low quality as were the sun beds around the pool. There were obviously not enough staff on duty with long delays waiting to be served at the bar. The breakfast serving was very chaotic with no hot buffet and long waits for the chef to arrive to cook hot dishes. We won’t visit this hotel again and can’t recommend it to others.

This parador is set in an unspoiled part of the Atlantic coast of Spain surrounded by pine forest. The hotel rooms are all overlooking the gardens or down to the pool and the Atlantic, all with balconies. The hotel has a restaurant which serves very traditional food of the area. There is also a snack bar which serves a good choice of food. The nearest village is about 6 kilometres away, but you can walk down the beach towards it or walk along the cycle way which follows the road but separate by at least 10 metres so it doesn’t feel like walking along a road. The reception staff all speak very good English but most of the other staff don’t, this is Spanish Spain, but everyone is very helpful. The pool is large and bar is next to it but for me the beach is aways better. The beach is accessed by 187 steps or you can go down an access road to the beach next to the hotel. The beach is popular with locals who come for the day. You can walk miles in either direction along the beach. The sea is for swimmers as you are out of your depth in about 10 metres. Sun loungers and parasols can be hired on the beach near the hotel. In the evening there are heavenly scents in parts of the hotel garden and during the day the scent of the pine trees. There is no traffic noise, just the sound of the ocean. One disappointment was that without a car it would have been expensive (about 100 euros on taxi there and back) to join a tour of the Donana National park. Without a car, get a train to Huelva then taxi to hotel, about 35euros A great place to just relax and listen to the ocean

The Parador proved to be a great experience. Having been to most Paradores in Andalucia were were expecting something good but the staff, service they gave and location proved to make a package we shall not easily forget and hope to re-visit in the not too distant future. It really was a great experience and wish we could have stayed longer than the one night.

The Parador of Mazagon is a building a few kilometers away from the town centre, with a private access to the public beach. Like most paradores, the decoration may look a bit dated, but the quality of the service, the fantastic food and specially its friendly and helpful staff really go the extra mile. Plus, the swimming pool terrace and its views from the sea are simply fantastic. The beach is great, but beware the long stairs up on the way back.

What a lovely hotel. Perched by the cliffs above a golden sandy beach that stretches for miles. And with wonderful swallows that nest in the roofs swooping across the lawns and swimming pool. Thoroughly recommended. But message to management. It is great that you have policies on the circular economy and climate. But you can do a lot more: In particular, your restaurant serves virtually no plant based foods - and a LOT of meat. And it is well established that meat contributes significantly to the climate crisis. So your restaurant is making the crisis worse - and so contributing to the destruction of the beautiful Donana national park next to the hotel. This needs the Paradores to show real leadership. Please take it up. A note for Brits - the hotel do not offer coffee and tea making facilities in the rooms - a must for many of us.
Response from Property: Dear Guest, Thank you for your opinion about your stay in this establishment. We are glad that you enjoyed our surroundings and our facilities. Regarding your comments about the gastronomy, we would like to inform you that we have dishes for vegetarians and vegans. However, we have taken note in order to expand our offer. All rooms occupied by foreign guests have a kettle with an assortment of teas. We are sorry if you were not able to enjoy this service, perhaps it was an oversight. We would be delighted if you could visit us again soon. Best regards Toñi Sánchez Reception
