First of all, I have stayed at quite a few hotels during my travels. This was a unique experience as I was told that this hotel was the oldest in the city which I found intriguing at first. First of all, I loved the lobby, is has this traditional feel to it which was great. The elevator is manually operated which I found very pleasing as it was a first for me. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, without a doubt top-notch service with a personal feel to it I can't say enough about how great they were. The artwork in the hotel has a warm feeling to it which I enjoyed. I didn't try the restaurant but it was always very busy and they has a small band playing instrumental music that was easy to relax to. Once I got to my room is when that charm began to wear off. the room was big with plenty of closet room. The bed was somewhat stiff but still comfortable. The carpet was dated with a couple of bearly noticeable stains. The outlets were two-prong which could be a problem for some laptops. To me, attention to detail is the key for a nice room. The bathroom was extremely small and the shower door had a small crack. The showerhead, on the other hand, had quite a bit of build-up, and the was a piece of the counter was missing. Now I was told that some parts of the hotel were being renovated but for the rooms that are being given to guests things like these should be looked at. As a solo traveler, I really don't mind but for couples and families, I'm not so sure.
