JJourney47975264278Dripping with historic vibes, this gorgeous 110-year-old building houses a modern hotel with all the modern touches. This corner has had a hotel on it for nearly 200 years, and has hosted Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain, and Al Capone! It's location is perfect--views of the Mississippi River from the rooms, and walking distance to everything in the very happening downtown area. The lobby makes a first great impression, making you feel like you've gone back in time. The clerks were kind and funny, and very helpful with suggestions about what to do and where to eat. Our room had a comfortable, single queen bed (although the pillows were a bit small and flat). The bathroom had frosted glass doors and an adequately sized shower. Our only complaint is that the toilet paper fixture came out of the wall, which we reported immediately, but it wasn't fixed during the 4 days we were there. The restaurant on site, Carolines, had really delicious food and attentive servers. It was also very handy having a spa on site (Potosa Spa), and it was amazing. At $179, the room rate wasn't much more than the Holiday Inn down the street, and I'd take this historic beauty any day over a chain hotel! We will stay here again!
