I stayed at the Porto Allegro, also known as the Porto Alegre, for a week in January 2022. For its price range, this is a good choice. Located on a small side street just north of the Rio Cuale, it's basically in the heart of the tourist zone without any street noise. I did not have any noise issues from other guests, but I guess it all depends on who's staying there when you are. (There isn't any carpeting or sound dampening inside the building, so you get that shotgun-blast effect when people close their doors.) The rooms are nothing fancy but perfectly fine. I found the mattress very comfortable - not mushy at all. Room temperature was controllable by A/C and fan. Roller blinds to block all light when needed. Importantly, the shower was A+ - strong flow and maintained constant temperature. Also importantly, wi-fi was excellent. I only experienced an outage for a couple hours one weekday afternoon, who knows why. TV had several hundred channels, mostly Mexican with a few U.S. channels thrown in. Free breakfast every morning with a good variety. Inside the room, there's complimentary coffee and bottled water, and they'll give you a bottle of wine upon arrival. There's a rooftop hot tub and a ground-level ”fitness center” consisting of a treadmill, a rack of light free weights, and an all-in-one weight machine that is kind of useless. Staff everywhere is super nice and responsive. i had a few issues that were taken care of immediately.
