Family-friendly Hotels in Kyoto

My wife’s birthday trip at the Suiran was a dream come true. With successive Covid cancellations, it took us four years of planning, but it was worth the wait. With their traditional Japanese structures and landscaping, the Suiran was our oasis of calm during Kyoto’s busiest season (cherry blossoms). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the best breakfasts of our lives in their dining room, and blissful riverside happy hours in their cafe. Our comfortable room had all the amenities, and a soothing minimalist aesthetic. The Suiran staff is spectacular: thoughtful, gracious, attentive. Through our years of planning and days of enjoyment, we were guided by Suiran’s chief concierge, Hiromi Maruyama. Her kindness, patience, and expertise added greatly to the success of our time in Kyoto. Her suggestions and insights, and good spirits were a beacon shining our way. We are indebted to her for her efforts on our behalf.

The hotel staffs are professional and enthusiastic. For the seven days stay, everything was perfect. The room is spacious compared with other hotels at the same level. The hardware are well maintained. The restaurants provide great food. The breakfast at Cafe 33 is great but limited in variety given the price. The Italian restaurant trattoria sette provides great pizza and pasta. The location is quite convenient given its proximity to Kyoto Station, thought it’s a bit far from Kawaramachi. There are bus stops connecting Gion, Higashiyama, Kawaramachi, Kyoto Station and Tofukuji quite near the hotel.

We stayed at the Four Seasons Kyoto for three nights in October during our family trip through Japan. The hotel is absolutely stunning. We were upgraded to a huge suite with private garden as I was travelling with an injured leg and could not leave the hotel very much. We met the general manager during check in and she said that if I had to stay at the hotel most of the time they would want to provide me with a beautiful room. What a lovely gesture. We met her again the next morning during breakfast time wehre she went to introduce herself to everyone and to have a small chat with guests. My husband and myself both used the spa and were very happy with treatments. My son and husband used the pool every day which they liked a lot. We had food through room service (the risotto was the best I have ever had). Funnily enough the young lady who served room service was from near our home town in Germany (Hi Mel !). We also at the main restaurant and had drinks in the lobby lounge area. It is also the little details that make a difference. I left my reading glasses out on the desk and when I came back they were on a hotel branded glasses cleaing cloth. And my computer mouse was provided with a hotel branded little mouse pad. Before staying there I was in contact with one of the concierges who helped me create an itinary of what my son and husband should see during our stay in Kyoto. Their recommendations for sightseeing and also outside restaurants were great. The staff in general was very polite and helpful. We cannot fault anything at the hotel. As I was not able to go out much we will definately return. And I can only recommend anyone else to stay there as well.

During my trip to Kyoto, I had the pleasure of staying at the Park Hyatt Kyoto and had an unforgettable experience. The hotel's location was very convenient, allowing me to easily visit Kyoto's attractions. The rooms are elegantly decorated with traditional Japanese style, while also offering modern comforts. The beds were soft and comfortable, allowing me to enjoy a sweet sleep every night. The hotel's service staff was friendly and always provided timely help when I needed it. In terms of dining, both the Japanese breakfast and the international dinner were a feast for my taste buds. In addition, the hotel's tranquil environment and well-maintained gardens provided a perfect space for me to relax. In short, the Park Hyatt Kyoto was the highlight of my trip and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends.

I happened to make a reservation here for a quick trip to Osaka. I really liked that it had a Japanese feel ^^ It was great that the toilet and shower room (bathtub/bathroom style) were separate!! It's not a kimono, but a long dress-like(?) nightgown is prepared haha. I was very satisfied with my one night stay in Kyoto! Breakfast is served as a full Japanese meal, but I came to find out that you have to make a reservation 3 days in advance. It's a shame I didn't get to experience it. I definitely have to come back here on my next trip to Kyoto^^ The kids also say they like it a lot~~~

I wanted to try a different area of Kyoto since it is Cherry Blossom season so I focused on the Gion area. It was a great decision and Gion Misen is an excellent choice in that area. A quick note is that there are actually 2 Gion Misen in the area. I stayed at Gion Misen Furumonzen but the other Gion Misen is less than 5 minutes away. The hotel guests at both hotels can use the facilities at both hotels. Furumonzen has the bar and serves the western breakfast. Gion Misen serves the Japanese breakfast. You just have to inform the front desk about your breakfast choice a day before. The location is on a quieter part of Gion but a short 5 minute walk to the main areas of Gion and the nearest train station. There are many restaurants within 10 to 15 min and Pontocho Alley is also just 10 min away. Another plus is the 24 hr Lawson just across the street. The staff at the hotel is wonderful and definitely one of the reasons I'm rating the hotel highly. Every staff member seems to be from a different part of the world and they all speak English fluently. They were friendly and also communicative via e-mail. They were able to assist me with making a couple reservations in Kyoto. This is helpful as I do not speak Japanese. The room itself is quite large for a room in Japan and there was room to lay out our luggage without having to tiptoe around it. The tatami mats on the floor adds a unique feel to the room and is very comfortable. The bed is also great except that I would prefer it to be a bit taller off the ground. The bathroom is modern but small. However, it has a tub which I used everyday to relax after a long day of touring. Gion Misen Furumonzen is great combination of a comfortable room, quiet location in a great area, and wonderful staff. I would definitely stay here again the next time I visit Kyoto!

The place that left my first trip to Kyoto as a happy memory until the end I will bring good memories with me whenever I remember Kyoto. The well-organized and tidy feeling makes you comfortable from entering the hotel to leaving. It blends Japan's past and present well, giving it a unique and sophisticated feel. Hinoki bathtub and plenty of warm water It relieved the regret of a ryokan that I had not experienced on this trip. It is recommended that you try the breakfast you ate every morning. The menu, which used to be Korean food, was changed to a buffet format. The food is unusual and unique. I'm very satisfied ^^ I'm going back after getting along well with the warm consideration and help of all the staff. From the moment we arrived at Roku Kyoto, we felt completely taken care of. From the warm greetings we received as we got out of the taxi to the genuine smiles and hospitality given to us at Reception. There is a pride that exudes from everyone at Roku Kyoto, and for good reason. It is an absolutely extraordinary hotel. But it's not just the beautiful accommodations and the incredibly thoughtful design throughout the property. Nor is it just the sumptuous food stunningly presented at every meal. It is the people who work there and represent the true heart and soul of what the Roku Kyoto experience is all about. My wife and I have traveled all around the globe and we have rarely encountered such a level of excellence. The architectural design, the interior design, the facilities and the grounds are all stunning. In fact, the photos from their website do not do it justice. The room we had on the 4th floor was gorgeous and the bed was perhaps the most comfortable bed we have ever encountered (and we travel often!). The tranquility, the views, the attention to detail throughout the hotel are are not just glorious but absolutely inspiring. The gorgeous pool is filled with water from the natural hot springs that abound in that area of Kyoto. It is a sumptuous experience to swim in that very special pool. We only had breakfast at the hotel, but it was the best we encountered in Japan. The food was beautifully prepared , the choices were extensive and stunningly displayed and the service was impeccable. In fact, service is another thing that sets this extraordinary hotel apart. It's not just well done, there is a pride and a joy that emanates from every member of the staff, no matter what their position. It's what gives this place true heart and soul and it's what elevates the experience. We will never forget our stay at Roku Kyoto and cannot wait to return! We would like to especially thank Kayo Naskagawa. Her attention to detail, her inherent ability to go the extra mile for a guest. Her sweetness and ease. Her ability to listen and use that information to heighten the Roku experience for a guest. Kayo, for us, represents everything we love about Roku Kyoto and why we cannot wait to return.

We stayed here for two nights from October 5-7 and have no complaints about the service and care we received. This is renovated primary school, but you wouldn't know it from how it has been remodeled. Though we did like the wide stairways with wooden bannisters that retained a little of the ”school” feel. The overall atmosphere of the hotel and its grounds is very calming; a nice oasis from the bustle of the city. The room was a good size with very good amenities that made the stay convenient and comfortable. The in-room bar was complimentary and restocked daily. We also had access to the lounge which had free flowing snacks and beverages throughout the day. It was nice to sit next to the window with a warm beverage or a glass of wine after a long day of trekking across the city. We ate in the city, but also made a point to try all of the places to eat in the hotel. We had breakfast on the outside terrace of the main restaurant. The ”well-being” breakfast was healthy and hearty; very filling. We liked that the breakfast was ”by order” rather than buffet. Buffets can be tiring when you just want to sit comfortably on a terrace, enjoying the morning with a cup of coffee. We had one dinner at Benoit, the French restaurant. We tried three mains as part of two set meals we ordered: Sea Bass, Lobster, and Pork Loin. All were done very well. For a late supper, we had a steak on the Rooftop Lounge. The chef himself, strongly suggested I order a different wine with the steak as he felt it complimented it better. It was actually a cheaper wine than I had ordered, so I appreciated that it was a true recommendation. We followed dinner with cocktails in the bar, where the bartender apparently is rather well-known in Kyoto. He certainly had admirers watching him as he made the drinks. The hotel general staff and concierge were all very helpful, helping us reserve cars and check to make sure that our destinations were convenient for our purposes. They also follow-up with us to see if what they had suggested worked out. The only suggestion is to make sure that you leave plenty of time for arriving and leaving. The hotel is right in the middle of a major tourist area. There are many temples in the area, and the streets are lined with tea houses, places to eat or buy souvenirs, and places just to discover or wander about. So depending on the time of day, the traffic can be very congested. That said, from the hotel it's only a 20-minute walk to Nishiki market and the areas around it. Overall, an excellent stay. We would definitely consider the hotel again for any future trip we might have to Kyoto.

We had mixed reviews of this accomodation Pros - was a very large room two small doubles and a bunk perfect for families. Amenities are great with wifi, lots of kitchen utensils, stove, tea and coffee supplied, toothbrushes available, washing machine and tablets are provided with an inbuilt dryer system in the bathroom. Bathroom and shower area was also spacious. Beds are on the okay side but could be softer. The area itself is nice and quiet with a bus stop right out from we utilised every day, supermarket and Lawsons are across the road and you feel very safe. Would recommend for families. Cons - check in is in a different location 20minute taxi away so we had to catch a train to the check in office when arriving in Kyoto from Osaka, then a taxi to the accomodation after this which chewed up a few hours as we had to wait 45min in addition to check in due to busyness of the office. The area is a bit out of the way of everything next time I might consider staying at a different resi stay location closer to sights and facilities like shops etc. All the restaurants in the area seem to not open for breakfast until 11am so we had to have McDonald’s if we didn’t want to cook or travel too far for breakfast as we have a toddler (early riser). Same occurred at dinner time a lot of restaurants didn’t seem to be open the Monday or Tuesday we were there or opened too late for us (we travelled with a four year old). Our last disappointment was resi stay apparently have a strict not noise at night policy however another room partied until about 3am but there is no front desk or after hours phone number to call to complain / get the noise to stop. Was very frustrating as walls were very thin so we didn’t sleep very well. Overall we would stay with Resi Stay again but at another location due to Nishijin being a bit too out of the way for us.
