The hotel's location was the main reason why we booked the place. It was close to both Kumamon Square and Kumamotojo, the 2 things we wanted to do in Kumamoto. However, note that even though it's right next to Kumamotojo, it still takes a 15~20minute walk to the entrance because it's on the other side of the castle keep during it's repairs. The staff are wonderful and very helpful, standard level of service in Japan is just one step above every other country. The staff did valet parking for me without extra charge, and was quite helpful in helping us to get to different attractions and restaurants. Overall, the hotel is very dated and the rooms are in dire need of a full renovation. I think that is why the rates were quite reasonable. For a hotel this caliber (probably 5 stars when it was first built), we only paid around 10,000 yen per night. The issue is the rooms are really old and the carpet looks dirty and ripped. parts of the washrooms were so old the faucet looked like it's from the early 90s and with small amounts of molds in the creases. Because the hotel is old, the ventilation isn't the greatest either. One of our rooms although was non-smoking, we could smell other room's cigarette smell in our room. Overall, I don't really recommend this hotel because it's really dated, but if you are on a budget and want close amenity it's worth a shot. The staff are nice too so I feel bad for not recommending the hotel, but at the end of the day, there are just better options in Kumamoto today.

A very nice, modern hotel in the heart of the Kumamoto shopping district - very convenient location, right at the cross section of the two major covered shopping thoroughfares. Check-in only at 3pm and is an automated check-in/check-out system. Staff are very helpful and friendly. At check-in, you are free to choose your amenities from a very wide selection, including bath salts, face cleanser, moisturizer, coffee, green tea, etc. There is a giant tv in the room. No bottled water is provided. The room offers a full robe (short yukata and pants!). The rooms itself are very modern and renovated. There are two Family Marts and a 7-11 within a block of the hotel, as well as many dining and retail options within short walking distance. It is about a 15 minute walk to Kumamoto Castle and a 30 minute walk to Kumamoto Station.

The front desk was on the second floor. The first floor is 7-Eleven. The number of multi-storey car parks attached to the hotel was small, and when it was full, the affiliated parking lot was very far away. One blue sky parking lot was vacant, but it didn't stop me. There was a parking lot other than the affiliation nearby. It is good that the bathroom has a bathtub and a washroom. The room is not large. There are many times when the front desk is congested. There was a 7-Eleven on the first floor and it was convenient. The bar area is close, so it is convenient to walk when eating out.

We stayed on the tour. The exterior is very clean after renewal. The interior is also around the restaurant and lobby on the first floor, and the front desk is clean. Especially the restaurant was not only clean, but the breakfast was very delicious with local dishes lined up. However, the rooms seemed to be under renewal construction, and the passenger elevator was dedicated to one construction. The guest room floor is that of a business hotel with a Showa atmosphere from the corridor. The room smells of an old hotel, from carpet to wallpaper, and you can feel the remnants of the time when you could smoke. You can see from the scratch of the burnt chair that it was a smoking room. The bathroom was the same as before, and due to the trap of drainage under the floor, there was a step of about 20 cm, and it was difficult to climb and down. And it's very narrow. The view from the room is that there is a highway on the river side, but the space is open On the other side, you can only see the closed hospitals and emergency stairs in old buildings. I think the river side is good if you stay. Anyway, it is best after the renewal is completed. The view does not change.

Stayed in a room with an open-air bath. The room was clean and easy to spend. There is a tatami mats, so you can go go go. The bed is a bit hard, but it is not difficult to sleep. The open-air bath can hear the sound of the car because it is all over the city, but there is a cherry blossom and it is not visible from the surroundings, and the curtain for completely blocking is also installed, so if you are concerned, you can use it. The water was clean and easy to use. The outlet is hardly close to the floor, under the TV, under the bed, the bathroom and the air cleaner. If the charging cable is short, the tablet will be charged at the bed. If the charging cable is long, you can extend it from the TV and put the tablet on the tatami mats to charge. It was because it was a room near the coin laundry on the 3 floor, and I heard the sound of the washing machine. However, I was able to spend it without worrying about it. It is also convenient that the next door is seven eleven. I didn't use breakfast buffet because of corona. The hotel receptionist is a sister in a T-shirt, and there is no atmosphere called ”Hotel Man”, but I was able to check in and check out smoothly, and there is no rudeness. It was a very good hotel with location, newness and cleanliness.

This hotel have several convenience stores nearby. And a shopping mall near the car park.
I rented a three bed room. At first, the humidity of the room is relatively high, and have an air-con water dropping issue. Being told that this issue is normally in Japan since it is a raining season, but the staff assist to offer another room. The second offer room air-con is in trouble, which is not cool even turned to 16 degree. At last, we were upgraded to the slightly larger room with three beds (the third bed is still a sofa bed). The room is so clean, two beds are in double bed, the tv could used for Netflix and YouTube.
I would say the organise of the staff is in a satisfy level. The shower supplies are in Kose, the water pressure is relatively good among four hotels I’ve been stayed in Japan for this trip. But there are only 8 car parking in this hotels, with the first in first serve policy. So, we couldn’t managed to have a car parking although I’ve been told in the comment box by trip.com. However, they have some collaborated car parking suppliers nearby with a discount coupons. It’s not really convenient for you if you just stay for one night. But for me, it’s more than acceptable.

It was a awesome stay at Koko Hotel Premier Kumamoto. We parked our car at the multi story parking building opposite and just walk over with our lugguage.
As I have already read some reviews in advance, we have no problem finding the hotel but I must say the sign board is a little not eye catching and can easily miss it. (can see my photo below). Everything is comfortable there and I just have to make space for my luggage opening which is not much of an issue. The location is so convenient and can easily walk over to the shopping area for our dinner with many choices. We enjoyed our stay and there is also drinks vending machine on the level we stayed. Will definitely recommend it for it super convenient location :) btw is near to the Kumamoto castle too!

This hotel is located within a short walking distance from the Kumamoto station. From the JR bstation exit it is on the left, just beside the Bic Camera store next. There is also a streetcar/tram stop so near the hotel which you can use to explore the city touristy spots! Shopping is convenient as the Kumamoto AMU Plaza (see another Review) is 5-mins walk away. The lobby is quite spacious and I quite like the intimate setting and lighting. Check-in was fast and 3 lifts serve well with travellers + luggages. The room design is quite standard and we have requested for x2 single bed, the room size is respectable. Noted that they're still using the physical hard key and not the keycard type. Hottel provided some amenities and complimentary bottled water in the room, sufficient for us . The Hotel is very into Going Green, there will be no housekeeping within first 3-days unless requested upon. This may likely be the model moving forward, to cut wastages. We had our breakfast at the nearby Pronto. The Kitaoka Shrine is just about 400 metres nearby, opposite direction of JR station so we recommend to drop by if time permits. A good stay experience. J

I stayed 2 at the end of the year. It was my first stay, but I wanted to relax and stay again. The hotel is over 9 floor, but the glass is often used and the view is bright everywhere. Creation that I have never seen before. A mechanism that cannot be put in the room key in the lodging zone. The building is a corridor style, overlooking the garden and chapel on the 9 floor, but it is lit up at night and this is beautiful again. The rooms are a bit vertical, but I was able to spend calmly. I liked my wife very much. The public bath is also like a fashionable and splendid hot spring hotel. Maybe more. There was a drum coin laundry next to the entrance of the public bath, and it was convenient for consecutive nights. Breakfast was a buffet, but the buffet on New Year's Day is a great word. When I arrived at the entrance with the service of the soup and arrived at the seat, the miscellaneous boiling was carried first. The soup was very delicious. In addition to the usual buffet, there were special dishes for New Year's Day, but there were many fresh sashimi, kazukono, shrimp, etc. There was red rice in rice. All were delicious and ate a lot. I went by car, but I went directly from the underground parking lot to the front floor and the parking fee was very good. Moreover, I think it is the best value for money in a hotel in Kumamoto City with a 24-hour parking setting. My wife started saving money because she wanted to go to the end of this year.

TTammy MakThe hotel is located right at one of the very busy shopping streets of Kumamoto with many shops and restaurants. We had had very pleasant stroll there and had dinner and snack.
The room is very spacious and clean. The two matt glass windows cannot be opened per se. One has light and the other very little.
The soap provided is of better quality than that of the other hotels I have stayed in. The dispenser says Kao.
GGuest UserGreat value for what we have paid for. Efficient check-in process. High quality public bath facilities with two hot hot springs (one indoor and one outdoor), one sauna and one cold water pool. Although this hotel is listed as a 3-star hotel, we would say it is much better than many 4-star hotels in many regards. The employees at the check-in desk speak decent English too.
JJohnston ChanThe hotel is situated next to a tram station but more importantly, within close proximity to Kumamoto castle and Sakura Machi, so sightseeing and grabbing dinner was no trouble. However, consider not travelling to this hotel with luggage on a tram since I found the experience quite gruelling. Trams in Kumamoto are not exactly designed for tourists carrying hefty luggage.
The staff spoke very decent English in the realm of Japanese hotels. The rooms spotlessly clean and sizeable also in terms of Japan. The only downside is that there is no bathhouse but this is much compensated by the spacious bathroom with a roomy bathtub and a rainfall shower.
All in all, the only thing you have to ponder upon is whether you would be travelling to this hotel with luggage on the tram. Otherwise, this is a perfect location to stay in Kumamoto!
(A photo of the whole room is not uploaded since my friend is in it!)
GGuest UserWe chose this hotel due to its view and location to Kumamoto castle. This was a nice hotel and the view from our room was perfect. We paid a little more for the breakfast since there were no close places to eat. They had covid protocols still but the food was delicious and we decided to stay 2 nights. For the price and view it was well worth it. We took a short taxi ride from JR Kumamoto to get there. Very pleasant staff and we would return someday!
GGuest UserIt is 2 ~ 3 minutes walk from JR Kumamoto Station, so transportation is good. More than a month ago, I called the hotel directly and booked a comfort single. However, the hotel homepage only stated that it was the East Building. When I went there, it was a 2F room that walked through the outer corridor without partitions. If it was raining, it would get completely wet. On the day, the wind was blowing and the cold was so bad. Was the East Building a former condominium or employee dormitory? The East Building should be stated on the hotel homepage, etc. that it is an outer corridor without a partition (rain and wind blows). In addition, the room is divided into two rooms from the middle of one room, which was an apartment or employee dormitory. You take off your shoes at the entrance and enter the room. The window of the room, the part where the TV is placed is not lighted, and it feels very dark. Isn't this part also necessary for lighting? The breakfast venue and the large communal bath are both located in 1F. The large communal bath is available at 15:00 ~. There is only a washroom at 6. In the morning, you can take a bath from 05:00AM. The breakfast venue is available at 06:30 ~ and a local dish from the Kyushu area is served every morning. (11/10 was Somen Champur in Okinawa) Also, the dessert was 11/10 was yogurt, but 11/11 was coffee jelly. I found out that various ideas were devised.
GGuest UserThe good thing is that the transportation is convenient. Buses to/from the station stop right in front, and a tram stop a short distance away. It's far from the downtown area, but it's not impossible to walk. It is even more convenient if you use the bus streetcar. There are few shops around, but there is a good Japanese restaurant within walking distance. The room is small and it is difficult to arrange luggage. Just scaffolding around the bed. The desk can be folded (so narrow) that the bag can be opened in a small hallway space leading to the entrance. The public bath is normal for this type of business hotel, more comfortable than a unit bath, but not as good as a hot spring inn. The parking lot is a three-dimensional building. It is OK without getting wet even in the rain. There is no manager at night, so you can't get in and out of your car or take your luggage in and out. If you are having trouble with that, you will be introduced to a nearby parking lot.
CChakuI love this place! Although the location is bit far away from the downtown of Kumamoto, the equipment and service is very good~ it was a cozy stay for me.
Arigatou (ありがとう)!
AAnonymous UserPerfect location. Next to the bus terminal. Close to the business district so have good access to food and shipping. But parking fee is a bit expensive. It was said to be 1000 Yen but I was charged 1100 and 1400 Yen respectively.
GGuest UserThe advantage is that the hotel is very close to the shopping street and Kumamoto Castle, so it is very convenient to go shopping and eat.
Facilities: The room is small. Although the bathroom is clean, the facilities are old and yellowed. The toilet exhaust is not good, and it feels stuffy when going to the toilet and taking a shower. Room carpet cleanliness is average
Service: Two people staying in a room are only given one room card, which is a bit inconvenient.
