What an amazing place to stay! We were here to visit the various wildlife refuges nearby and enjoy the trails at the park. We were not disappointed. The designers of the lodge managed to make a modern building airy and rustic at the same time. Comfortable seating arrangements are tucked around the lodge, although a coveted one is in front of the two-sided fireplace. It appears as if the lodge has been updated in terms of colors as there is a lot of trendy gray around, including our room. The carpets all seemed new, though that could be from excellent cleaning. Our room was fantastic. We were in #152, which directly faces Lake Erie. Not a slanting view, just smack on, looking at two beautiful trees holding branch hands, and a stellar view of the lake. Two chairs outside our patio door would have provided a nice place to sit, but the first night, mosquitoes were active and drove us indoors, and the next night rain, soaked the chairs, making them unusable. Even the eave above our room couldn't prevent the rain from reaching the chairs. The bathroom was huge with two sinks at opposite ends of the wall. It was great! The shower was modern and a walk-in. The only sign that the building is from the '90s is the patio door which is showing its age and needs replacing. We ate at the dining room one night, and were practically the only people there. Service was excellent, and the food was delicious. We both had walleye. Breakfast was buffet style, and the first day the food was pretty dried out because we got there after the food had been drying out for awhile. The second day, we were there when the restaurant opened, and the food was fresh. Service was perfect at both breakfasts. The buffet is the only option for breakfast. We absolutely loved this place and will come back.
