Full of mystery and legend, Guanajuato is located in a basin of the Sierra Madre mountains, with much of its perimeter creeping upwards along the walls of the valley. This former mining city was once home to José Carpio, a young and talented man known as El Cantador whose singing and guitar-playing earned him fame in the 18th century. The Hotel Indigo Guanajuato pays homage to the city's mining heritage and its legendary musician. In fact, it shares the same ground El Cantador once called home. After his father was killed in a mining accident, the young musician began mining himself—all the while moonlighting with his guitar. When he saved enough money to buy a plot of land, he chose the land where Hotel Indigo now stands. And from its terrace, guests can still see the beautiful garden named in his honor.

The hotel is located in the center of the city. It has unique features and makes people feel bright after entering. It has a sense of historical sedimentation. There is an old tree that seems to be a hundred years old in the hotel. The walls of the hotel are also covered with various paintings. Even the room card is unique.

Trying to get to the hotel was a little confusing due to the tunnels and a police officer blocking the main road to get to the hotel, but eventually we got there. There is no valet but you can park your car on the left side real quick and go inside to let them know you’ve arrived and they will park your car for you. We got greeted by a wonderful, very well spoken bilingual woman named Aileen. She was so helpful and informative. It was a huge plus for us to have someone speak English since my American boyfriend didn’t know Spanish. The rooms were extremely clean and had all the amenities that we needed for our stay. If you forgot something at home, they most likely had it. We loved that the hotel was RIGHT in the middle of the city. Everything is walking distance. Now for the cons… We booked 3 massages and the spa room only fit 1. I would have wanted to at least have had a couples massage but they accommodated it in our room. It wasn’t as relaxing as we would have wanted it. The masseuses did a great job tho. There was also an extremely loud noise coming from the room upstairs, it seemed like someone was moving/building furniture. It woke us up at 8 am and the noise got worse thru out the morning we couldn’t go back to sleep. Besides those things I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would have my family stay there again!

It is an incredible place, of exceptional beauty. I had already met him before, however this weekend was the first time I stayed. After the reservation I read comments about the service (bordering on regular and bad) especially for the lack of hot water and uncomfortable beds, still decided to check it out for myself (and my friends) and I was fascinated. I will definitely return there. Neither my friends nor I had problems with the hot water in our rooms, or the lack of bath towels or dirty bath towels as I read in the comments, all rooms were clean, the only problem in the rooms that touched me, was the telephone that did not serve to call the reception, as for the food, well because the buffet although it is not so varied, is good and accessible price. The restaurant has an excellent view of the city, the chef and all the people who serve you are very friendly, without a doubt, a place to return.

Highly recommend. The location is good, the hotel door is facing the side door of the cathedral, beside the Peace Square, between the Notre Dame Cathedral and the University of Guanajuato, there are many attractions within walking distance. What's more valuable is that it is a street away from United Garden, where the nightlife is full of restaurants, and it is not noisy, except for the church bells, and there is no noise at night. The room is not big, the table is small, the facilities are complete, hot water is sufficient, WIFI is stable (this is a plus in Mexico). There is a rooftop on the top floor where you can see the night view. The waiters are very good, and the general English is not fluent. Please prepare translation software. One of the disadvantages is that there is no elevator, and the waiter should give tips to help carry luggage. Second, breakfast is not good. There is no hot dishes or meat for 145 pesos per person. It is recommended to eat out. There are many choices around. All things considered, it is highly recommended.

Loud atmosphere late into the night, ridiculously tiny bathroom, but otherwise comfortable. But watch out for taxi scams. The fee from the airport is always around 600 pesos. That’s what it was from the airport to this hotel. When it was time to depart the hotel (11:45 on Sunday, June 4) we asked the front desk clerk to call us a cab. He did and explained that it would be $600, but that $200 was to be paid to his colleague at the hotel who he called the “agent” and the remaining $400 would be paid to the driver. Unusual but okay with me. When we got into the cab the hotel ”agent” stated $600 (in Spanish) so that I and the driver could hear it. I said in terrible Spanish “$200 to you and $400 to him, right?” And he nodded. So, we get to the airport and I hand the driver $500 thinking it’s the $400 plus $100 tip. (Remember these are pesos). The driver says “no, $600.” I say no $400 to you and $200 I gave at the hotel. We argue but the cab driver behind us starts honking his horn because he sees what is happening and our driver suddenly takes the $500 and leaves. I think the driver behind us knew I was being scammed and intervened. I am convinced the guy at the hotel and the driver conspired to cheat us because I’m an older American. I also believe the desk clerk was in on it too. The whole split taxi fee didn’t make sense. It left a bad feeling for us after what was otherwise a pleasant stay. So my rating reflects it and I hope that hotel management responds. Employees should never be involved in scamming their customers.

The hotel is very close to the city center and there are many restaurants nearby. It's very lively at night, the sound insulation of the room is mediocre, you can clearly hear the noisy sounds from outside in the room, my boyfriend thinks it's a bit noisy, but I still like to listen to this lively and happy atmosphere occasionally. The hotel has a lift, but our room was only accessible by stairs, which is not very convenient if you have a heavy suitcase. There are some chairs at the door of our room, and several employees sit and chat on them. We can hear their voices clearly in the room, and I'm not sure if they can also hear our conversations in the room. And they chatted there again early the next morning, and I was woken up by their chatter. I hope the hotel can tell them not to chat at the door of the room where guests are staying.

We stayed at this hotel twice in 2023, to be closer to the BJX airport for early morning flights. While there are hotels closer to that airport (this hotel is a 25 minute drive to it) but this hotel is too nice to pass up for some of the not-so-nice airport area hotels. Guanajanto downtown is beautiful, not to be missed! The rest of the town isn't anything to write home about, we have done multipe tours and I'd stick to the area Villa Maria Cristina is in, and dowtown only. Ok, so we are Hyatt Explorist status. Both times our room was upgraded, which was very nice. The larger suites are lovely, we had one with a private patio with a table and loungers as well as Two full bathrooms, each with a bath tub and separate showers. Heaven! Robes and slippers also were privided with the room. We also got a turndown service with a lovely locally made treat. The hotel is old, and has the feel of an older hotel that has been well maintinaed, we could hear the pipes in the walls. Not a big deal. This room was facing a view of the mountains, but also along the main road. It was noisy All night with traffic. Light sleepers should request a room off the main road. The second time we had a slightly smaller room, no patio and one bathroom with a soaker tub. The hotel has 2 small pools, one indoors, 1 outside. There is also a spa and sauna (we had to sign up in advance to use it). There is also at least 1 hot tub set outdoors, although it was cold and we had to wait about 30 minutes for it to get heated. There's multiple outdoor patios. There is also a weekend brunch with a DJ but we did not participate. There is a bar and restaurant on site, and the food and service was good. There are also several restaurants within walking distance (5-10 minutes), an OXXO, and a few nice cafe/coffee shops nearby. There is a Nespresso machine in the room, however they charge you for each coffee pod used. Some of these rooms go for upwards of $500 USD a night. I personally find it tacky to be charged for using the coffee in the room. Out of hundreded of hotels we've stayed in over the years this has Never happend, and I found it extreamly odd. Managers - please get rid of that, it is not customary and ”cheapens” the overall feel of the hotel. The service was excellent both times we stayed here, the food was decent and setting beautiful. We'll be back!

my experiences from these hotels has been positive so far. this one stands out because i think the owners dont pay attention to it. the bathroom had no warm water or adequate water flow. it was spacious yes but i also wanted to bathe. the breakfast area is in the center of the establishment and only has natural light from the top which is 7 ? stories high. so if you have and early morning the area is not adequately lit. also the breakfast bouffet is lacking in choice. very few things offered. the bed excellent as always. for me 2 were the worst elements: i tried to talk to receptionist over the phone and he didnt speak english well and i found a cockroach in the restroom at the reception area. i know this is a hotel for short stay but isnt the goal of every hotel to have people converging no matter what?

TTINGKUNThe location of the hotel is very convenient on the side of the Union Garden, next to the Juarez Theatre, most of which can be reached within 5 or 6 minutes on foot. The hotel service was very warm, and the hotel also presented a cake as it coincided with the anniversary. The room size is not too big, and the window is Union Square. In the night, Guanajuato is still relatively cool. The hot air of the hotel air conditioner is not very strong, and it can barely ensure that the room temperature does not drop. As it was about to leave at around 9:00, the hotel started at 9am, so the hotel prepared a breakfast basket, but unfortunately it was too simple, including only an apple, a glass of juice and a biscuit.
GGuest UserThe location is excellent, tens of meters away from the church, the surrounding environment is very good, even if the evening is very late pedestrians. The rooms are large and furnished with good service. English is a little bit worse. highly recommended.
Mmmin355○ Good point ○ The view from the balcony was so beautiful in any time zone!!! You can get a card that is free to ride the funikra + you have a priority that you don't have to line up in the line of the funikra platform. Access to sightseeing the city of Guanafat is outstanding if the pukhnikura is moving. The hill of Pipira is also close. I was able to go back to my room several times a day while sightseeing and rest and see the scenery. It is very romantic that serenata listens to the night. ● not good ● walls with the room next to the cherry blossoms are thin? Especially in the shower area, I could hear the sound and voice of the shower. I had trouble in the room at night, but it was midnight? I was troubled by the staff who only knew Spanish. The window of the balcony is locked from the inside, so if you go out, the window is absolutely not closed, you can be locked; (it is a little unfortunate that you have to care about the last train of fnikra. Be careful because the last train is early on Sunday. There was a time when Wi-Fi was bad for occasional. However, the point that it was not good is not replaced by the great view. I really want to stay at the hotel all the time. I think it is a hotel that I should definitely stay when I come to Guanafato!
Like the reviews suggest, you will either love or hate this! For me it was fine. You cannot get a more central location overlooking the square with everything on your doorstep. Perfect location. Some may find the noise a bit much, but I was fine with it and loved the atmosphere. Busy hotel. Clean. Not a luxury hotel but there was hot water, a comfortable bed and perfect a few nights. Staff were pleasant but not that friendly. Plain and ordinary. To be honest, I was out most of the time. Your only likely to spend a few nights in this area. This hotel was fine if like me, you want something clean, central and safe. If you plan to be in the hotel more and want a luxury hotel, then stay somewhere else. There are not that many options in the area.
MMichaelwhhIt’s okay to stay for a while, we rent a car, so it’s convenient to go anywhere, and it’s convenient to eat nearby. You can consider it.
It's a bit of a way to the city center
GGuest UserWe booked a superior room with a balcony. The location is just below the top of the Pippila Mountain. On the mountain behind the theater, the scenery is superb. On the balcony, the view of Guanajuato is unobstructed. Not only has a balcony out of the room door, but it is a terrace. We stayed for two days and the price is very high. The only downside is to go up more than 100 steps.
We could have overlooked the dreary, lacklustre room if the front desk person hadn’t been so incredibly rude. We had hoped to check in early , no luck so we left our luggage and asked where we could have coffee. A staff member showed us to the breakfast room. We got coffee and then noticed the leftover buffet, a bit of scrambled egg, some chilli que, all cold and unappetizing. We each had a little as we’d just got off a long bus ride. It was obviously headed to the garbage. As we left we were presented with a bill for 638 pesos. Back to the rude clerk where we explained that we understood that breakfast was included. Eventually she agreed. Later that day we returned, our rooms were still not ready but we checked in and paid a much nicer receptionist. After explaining the morning’s fiasco she checked with a manager and we were told there would be bagged breakfasts and coffee waiting for us the following morning for our early check out. Ok, we put up with the uncleaned bathrooms, poor lighting and overall gloom. Next morning the dragon was back and refused to give us our breakfasts. None of the 4 of us will go back and would advise all to stay away!
