Really nice stay with family. Good facilities, pools and outdoors. Food and drinks really good and a lot of variety. Staff excellent, really nice and available. The rooms starts showing need for modernisation.

The bathroom facilities are simple, and the deluxe double room has no door. It is inconvenient to dry clothes on the balcony, and the room is too small. The environment and service are good, three meals a day are all inclusive and taste good, and the parking is convenient.

No complaints helpful staff rooms a bit dated with few sockets but they are only for sleeping and washing …. Food choice excellent in buffet restaurant and high quality Reading some earlier reviews was not sure what to expect - pleasantly surprised at our experience

Highly recommend a stay here. Delicious food in the buffet with musicians playing at breakfast time. Hot and cold snacks outside of buffet, Everywhere seemed clean and well cared for. Lovely gardens. Lift down to nearby beach which had beautiful sea front walks. Easy access to nearby shops. Walk to Funchal centre approx 2 miles and similar distance to the Fisherman’s village. Our room was spacious with a view overlooking the sea and nearby hillside, Staff very friendly. Pools warm and clean.

Very clean room with a fabulous view. Plenty of choice food wise. Welcoming attentive staff. Outside main dining room is the best vending machine coffee I’ve ever tasted, there is also a popcorn machine in reception. Tip - You’ll need to use your room key to access the lift from the beach.

Had a lovely week at the Pestana, yes room was a bit tired but very spacious and we had a partial sea view but this didn’t bother us as we were hardly in our room. Pool area was lovely with lots of sunbeds and seating by the pool bar. We were glad of the indoor bar on the couple of occasions the weather turned. Drinks were ok and we liked the help yourself wine and beer stations. There is a courtesy bus laid on by the hotel which takes you to the port area but we purchased the yellow bus tickets online and used them daily to get in and around Funchal’s more out of the way attractions (bus stop conveniently outside of hotel). The local buses are very economical too. The only downside was the restaurant area seemed very cramped and wasn’t very relaxing. We tried both speciality restaurants and the Italian was our favourite. Other than that and for what we paid we thought it was very good value for money.

I was a bit worried before I went after reading reviews from August. This hotel was nowhere near as bad as the reviews said. Yes, the inside bar was closed still in September and seats were a slight problem by the pool bar as was drinking from plastic glasses in the evenings. The local drinks and cocktails weren’t so great either. The staff were lovely, the hotel was lovely and was clean.

Great hotel, great location and the staff are so helpful and welcoming. The food was of a high standard and lots of variety. There is plenty to do outside the hotel and getting to these places are very easy. The hotel has a free bus into Funchal. I highly recommend the sleigh ride down the mountain.
