The Witchery by the Castle offers a range of opulent suites in Edinburgh, each one unique with its own special features. Lavishly furnished suites display gothic touches, with large oak beds and 4-posters, velvet-lined walls and flamboyant red and gold décor indicative of the style. There are separate seating areas and large bathrooms with free-standing silver baths. Each of The Witchery’s 9 suites is different, but walk-in dressing rooms, love seats and tapestries set the tone. Some rooms overlook Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, looking down towards Princes Street, or across to the old town. An indulgent breakfast hamper will be served in the room each morning or guests can choose to have a cooked breakfast served in the restaurant at no extra cost. The Witchery’s seductive glamour has caught the attention of The Times, The Telegraph and Condé Nast Traveller, and many celebrity fans have enjoyed its suites. The impressive restaurant also showcases fine Scottish dishes in similarly decadent surroundings.Show More

A must stay hotel in Edinburgh! The room is beautiful, and the photos are particularly impressive! Lots of antique-feeling velvet upholstery, but clean. The room is in the building opposite the front desk, and the only way to get to the room is through stairs. However, when checking in, the staff helped deliver the luggage to the room and gave welcome chocolates. We chose to eat breakfast in the room. The variety was relatively simple. The fruits were not sweet and not particularly fresh. It might be better to eat in the restaurant. All in all, I am very satisfied, the price is higher but worth the money! recommend!

Location unbelievable, especially during Fringe and Tattoo. Highly recommend booking early for an August stay so you can also experience street performers, comedy and Fringe shows as well as the Royal Military Tattoo. The Witchery made it oh so special! First, our room, the Old Rectory, is stunning. I can only imagine they all are. The spiral steps up to half of the suites is part of the experience, but don’ t let that stop you from getting a room across the street if none on the turret are available. The Whiskey Experience is right next door, the entrance to the castle a half block one way and The Real Mary’s Close tour a block the other way. Pubs are all around but best of all, the punctual 11:00pm Tattoo parade goes right by your door. We went out at 10:55 and walked ten feet to stand behind a yellow barricade so we could watch it go by; as amazing as the show itself that we experienced the next night complete with the castle dinner. Just utterly rousing watching hundreds of pipes, drums, brass and dancers go by, and then sweep right back into our room to enjoy the ambiance and luxury. We had both the breakfast in the restaurant and breakfast in our room and I preferred the service of the restaurant plus the hot food items. We were given a full bottle of chilled champagne and bottled waters nightly plus cookies, coffee and tea always available in the room. There was a table where you could get take-away and enjoy the setting if you want, because really, the room is an excursion itself. Getting food anywhere after 9:00 at night is tricky so plan accordingly, especially if you are still on another time zone. We did not eat at the restaurant because we experienced the front room for breakfast. Truly, I don’t think I could justify more than two nights at the Witchery financially but one night wouldn’t have been enough to fully appreciate the location. It’s a magical experience I hope to replicate some day, especially in August.

Another wonderful experience at the Witchery, Edinburgh. The service was attentive, friendly & professional, but never intrusive. The starters of Partridge Schnitzel & Crab Benedict were excellent and full of flavour. The Red Deer, again, was cooked to perfection. Our only minor gripe was that the Hispi Cabbage formed a large part of this dish - at the expense of the Deer & Pomme Dauphine. A great dining experience, and we look forward to our next visit.

We did not stay at The Witchery, but we did have dinner in the older, gothic-style dining room. The service was excellent, the drinks were wonderful, and the food was fantastic. It's a very romantic place for a lovely dinner. Highly recommended.

A brilliant destination experience not to be missed while in Edinburgh. Historical thematic rooms. Great restaurant food service and hotel staff. Quaint generous breakfast basket delivered to room or choose breakfast in restaurant A bit pricy so be prepared.

This is a"must visit" experience. Make sure you book your table in the original restaurant. The food was amazing, the oysters were sublime. Seafood from the cold water of Scotland is sweet and the steak was tender and very flavorful. The service was terrific.

This is our 7th trip to Edinburgh. We love this city and country. My wife has always wanted to eat here. Atmosphere cool and old which we love. Staff not the most friendly or fun which I think is my favorite part of this kind of restaurant. Appetizers very mediocre. Main dishes were delicious but sides were very weak. I got the scallops, 5 Star. But with Chips, weak! Other sides not great. I gave this dinner a 3 because it cost way more than it was worth and experience disappointing.

I have stayed in a lot of top notch hotels in my life, in many parts of the world, but not have been as magical as the Witchery. The rooms were stunning, the height of luxury and furnishings and architecture. The restaurant was exquisite. I only wish my budget had allowed longer than a single night stay. Would stay here again in a hot second!

The food was decent but definitely not worth the money. Service was terrible, we had to ask a number of times for a drink despite there seeming to be plenty of staff working. Wouldn’t spend your hard earned cash here - there are 100s of better places in Edinburgh.
