Very nice and friendly staff. The hotel service very good and clean. Lovely stayed. The receptionist at the arrival date was very kind, friendly and helpful. she resolved my issue quick with kindness. Very helpful 6 stars for her. Bar staff during evening and morning are very nice. My husband and I will come back definitely.

The hotel and staff were very good and professional. The rooms were of an exceptional standard. Unfortunately the amount of refurbishments going on was disrupting. The only other issue I had was the very small menu choices. Once finished I am sure it will be a very classy hotel.

Absolutely loved the room, bathroom was gorgeous, big tv, bed was comfy, AC was great and even had a fridge The toilet seat didn't fit the toilet correctly, mentioned it to reception who said they will look into it The shower was amazing, in fact I didn't want to get out of it. We went down for dinner on the Saturday night and this is where it let us down a bit. The food was lovely however when I went up to the bar to order the lady both times looked at her watch and said that the kitchen closes at 8.30pm. I went up both times way before them. To be honest I felt like I was an inconvenience. There was a party on and it felt like we wasn't as important as them so felt a bit uncomfortable. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic- plenty of choice. Left feeling full up. Didn't use the leisure facilities but did go for a look, gym looked good as did the pool (Pity there wasn't a jacuzzi but not a deal breaker). Plan on returning so will use the pool and gym then.

Taking renovations into account, welcoming reception staff, amazing room(141) couple minor observations toilet seat too small for toilet, and loose, made staff aware. Dinner was disappointing seemed uninviting, air con too cold and staff made us feel like an inconvenience… air con was mentioned however no offer to amend! Food was disappointing chicken was dry and chewy, chips were the highlight.. Dessert was flavourless and again disappointing I would happily return for accommodation but would eat elsewhere

My husband and I stayed here for one night on business. The room was quite big but the bedlinen was very cheap looking and the carpet was a horrible design -very depressing. We did have a lovely big bathroom with a decent shower though. The wifi was almost non-existent. But for me the worst aspect was the buffet breakfast - one of the worst we have had in a long time. It was served in a large impersonal room that was more like a transport cafe with rickety metal tables. The yoghurt and fruit selection was poor and the scrambled egg was tasteless. I left half of mine. My husband had a full English breakfast but half way through gave up as it was fairly tasteless - this is almost unheard of for him. Should have gone to the Premier Inn instead.

After a long journey we was greeted late at night by Lewis at reception. A great warm welcome from a pleasant fully competent member of staff was just what we needed. The room was modern, very comfortable and quiet with all the luxuries required. Breakfast was served in light warm surroundings and was cooked very well. Great quality bacon and sausage with fresh pastries on addition with the usuall cereals and juices. I would recommend to my friends and family from the north if ever down this way to stay . I would like to thank Lewis again and breakfast staff for making us welcome and us leaving rested and fed . Regards, Martin and Jody.

After reading the reviews decided to stay 2 nights with my family but didn't know the hotel was under renovation. On arrival the staff were very pleasant and remained that way throughout the stay. On the way up to the room, a worker mentioned to us that there is no water in the rooms and will be back on in 1 hour, well we accepted that and confirmed it later with reception and went for a coffee. The room was newly refurbished, good size and very clean, but no hand soap in the toilet. Another lengthy walk to reception and was rectified very quickly. The reason for the lengthy walk to reception was that there was no phone in the room. What was disappointing about the room was that, as explained by reception, if you stay over a day, the second day, your room doesn't get made up. so, when we arrived back after a long day, the beds had not been made, the tissues that had run out, so not renewed: but I was informed that this was hotel policy, and it was explained on the information sheet I was given. This I find was an issue as £140 per night I expected my room made up and not have to make my own bed. We paid extra for breakfast and the first day experience wasn't the best. Definitely not quality the bread I picked for toast had mould on the crust, yes green mould which was quicky taken and rectified as one would expect but set the trend. The table and chairs were tired and very sticky. The cooked breakfast was not presented well not cold but tepid. Nothing felt fresh. The second day when we arrived for breakfast, we were told that we had not paid for breakfast, after waiting for them to check, as there wasn't a computer in the breakfast room, realised it was a mistake and we sat down to a similar breakfast as the day before, but the bread was fresh! We did use the pool facility. The pool changing room was dirty and no lockable lockers and all needed replacing. Steam room and sauna were good, the pool was also good, but the place was tired and obviously needed renovating. The very last thing was that there was no WI-FI in the room probably the only room without it, but the reception did say they have been having Wi-Fi problems for some time. That was a problem as EE couldn't get in the room either. Reception area did have wi-fi. The reception did say that it was being converted to a Mariott Hotel 5* star. I feel there is a long way to go. A positive that the staff were very pleasant and helpful, but I think they had been very well briefed and practiced on how to handle every situation. I am sure that when it finally converts to a Marrott the standard of the hotel will improve dramatically.

We stayed last night after spending the day at Colchester Zoo. Our room was lovely, we were half board for our booking and we had a three course meal all included (the two ladies on the bar were excellent) and this morning my toddler was hungry before breakfast started and a lady from the kitchen let me have a bowl of cereal to take up to the room for her. Things like this make it extra special. Thank you

Went to a wedding last weekend to my cousins wedding, really nice venue and we had a smashing time! DJ playing amazing music all night, receptionist lovely too! dinner was good too, the two girls behind the bar, Hannah and Jess gave us the best service, both smiling, happy, interacting with us, honestly they added so much to the night, lovely girls. Management was quite rude, older lady was really demeaning to the staff, no need really, kept muttering comments to her self…. Strange really

Overall nice hotel. Good facilities and really nice, modern refurbished room. Some areas for improvement, WiFi is reallybad and barely works, therefore unable to do any work throughout stay. Needs so finer improvements on staff/service

Stayed one night. Was apprehensive after reading reviews but it was actually a nice stay, despite the building works going on. It will be lovely when it’s finished. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Dining area a bit dark but guess that will change when the refurb is done. Pool and spa area is very dated but hopefully that will get a makeover too!
