My husband and I are from Nevada and were traveling to MN and IA to see family. We had a room booked for a two-night stay and other family members booked 3 additional rooms in order to attend a family reunion. We had an unexpected death in my family, so I needed to stay back in MN. I called the hotel, to cancel the room as soon as I found out about the death. I was told I would have to pay for the first night as my cancellation notice was less than 24 hours. I did manage to give them a 17-hour notice. When I called to cancel, I asked the counter clerk if there was any way they could waive the cancellation fee due to the unexpected death and was told no. I was trying to deal with my situation and just said fine. My husband decided to go anyway and upon arriving asked if could stay in the room since we had paid for it. He was told they had resold the room and they were fully booked. When we got back to NV I called and talked to the General Manager to see if there was anything he could do for us since they did resell the room, and therefore, were not out anything. I understood the charge would stand if they were unable to rebook and had missed out on getting paid for the room, however that was not the case. I was told by the GM the cancellation policy stands alone and there was nothing he would do about it. I told him I did not think it fair they were getting double paid for the night. He was rude to me and said they have sometimes been known to sell a room 2 or 3 times for the same night. I told him I was going to write this review and reach out to Marriot corporate, and he responded that I was threatening him. I filed a case with Marriot customer care on 7/1 and was told I should hear something from the property in 3-5 days. After not hearing anything for 11 days, I again called customer care and was told the GM had responded to them that he would do nothing to compensate me. He didn't even have the decency to email me himself. I expected to be treated in a much more professional manner by Marriot and this General Manager! We won't be staying at this hotel on our future visits.

Great hotel for location. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was ok but seemed a little disarray. Overall great stay for the price. There was a confusion with my booking however the front desk did fix it quickly and even apologized on behalf of the third party.

I used points for an overnight stay at this hotel. I don’t really understand the negative reviews of this hotel. The room was clean and modern and the hotel was very quiet. Breakfast had a good selection of menu items and was fresh and good. The only downside to this hotel was the pool is cold and I understand has been in need of repair for some time. The young lady at check in was not at all welcoming and could care less about your Bonvoy status. Didn’t know that gold elite members could enjoy complimentary upgraded wifi. She suggested I call the internet company. I would stay here again if I didn’t care about using the pool.

We stopped over for one night at this hotel during our road trip. We got a King Bedroom Studio Room which was more than enough for the night. The room was nice but the bathroom door had a bunch of scratches which looked like someone probably left a dog in there and they scratched up the door trying to get out. We got the free breakfast in the morning. They had runny scrambled eggs, some sausages and hot breakfast sandwiches. The breakfast was not great so I would recommend just skipping it and just getting breakfast from a local restaurant nearby. Overall it was an okay hotel... I would probably stay there again but just get breakfast elsewhere.

I have nothing but good things to say about the staff and manager here. Always willing to go the extra mile and very patient and kind. Becky M. was exceptional. She not only led housekeeping, but also did front desk things as well. She always hustled to solve issues or get requested items. The whole front desk crew were excellent and helpful in a timely manner. The only slight caveat was the breakfast was often barebones and not restocked promptly by the breakfast lady. Often, the front desk morning agent would have to track her down or just restock themselves. All in all, if you need a great hotel in Cedar Rapids, this is your place!

Pre-COVID, I used to frequently stay at this hotel once every couple of months for work travel. However, the last 3 stays have been pretty disappointing. My stay in October, poor water pressure and no soaps in the room. My last stay the heating in my room wasn’t working correctly, only to be moved to another room where the TV wasn’t working, and then have a nasty draft in the final room that I put up with for a night. The fitness center smells moldy. Among that, breakfast is next to non-existent with cereal and coffee, and they no longer have their afternoon “social” hour due to COVID (apparently I would drink someone else’s beer? ;)). Please do not get me wrong, the staff is very nice and did apologize for issues - appears to be a decision by the management company. The hotel just seems like it is getting run down with peeling paint on the bathroom doors, stains on the wallpaper, and many mechanical issues. I hope Hawkeye looks at their strategy and makes some improvements. Until then, I’m trying the Homewood even though is a few miles away from my workplace.
