Loving Gijon for remaining Spanish and not going for mass tourism, and, having stayed at the Abba in San Sebastien, we were very much looking forward to our two night stay here. The prices is what should have made us aware of the differences and not just because of differing geographical positions. During our stay, there was nowhere to sit outside during the day when the temperature was excellent even in a stiff breeze. The swimming pool is only open for three months to early September although never found it in any case! The Roof Terrace which is excellent with tables snd settees only opens at 17.00 - why? For hotel information you have yo go the ubiquitous internet site which gives more questions than answers and herself loves to read the printed information which is a lot more referable! The rooms are smaller (but comfortable enough) but totally lack sound proofing as clearly heard the busy traffic below all day, people in other rooms and moving in the corridor. Parking underneath was spacious and readily available during out stay. No food, from end of lunch, is apparently available anywhere in the hotel until 20.00 in the evening and the same, rather simple, menu is served in the bar and internal dining room. I would add, though, it is pretty good and remarkably cheap! It is a good 10/15 minute walk to central town and maybe 20/30 to the old town area for oldies like us. It was an adequate stay but would not be looking to repeat it on our next visit to this city

This was my third visit to Gijon, and it won't be my last. A short 1 3/4 hour flight from Gatwick with Vueling, and a 1/2 hour taxi ride from OVD (Asturias) Airport and I was in town. The hotel reception staff were attentive from check-in to check-out, even helping out with a minor injury! The hotel room was spotless, with plenty of storage space, writing desk and a comfy bed. The ensuite was A1, with excellent shower and other accessories including a hairdryer and even a bidet (unused...!). The continental breakfast was fine and as expected, delicious coffee!! Gijon is not a large town but offers plenty. The expansive San Lorenso beach front with a huge promenade, makes an ideal surf beach which isn't ideal for small children, but behind the bay is another beach, near the marina, which is ideal for younger families. The restaurants, oh the restaurants... I ate two large meals a day and never at the same restaurant twice, all very reasonably priced one clear recommendation is the Fabada, a basic meal comprising of beans, with chorizo and pork (or clam), with flavours you'll never have enjoyed before! Buenas vacaciones y gracias Gijon!

We chose Gijon at random, just because it was halfway between two other towns we were visiting, and we were very glad we did, it’s charming. What made the two night stay even better was this wonderful hotel. We had a junior suite, which was huge and extremely comfortable, the staff are lovely and it’s very well located. We thoroughly recommend El Moderne.

Absolutely beautiful hotel! The entrance and deco has a classic elegance and style. The staff were great! friendly and very attentive. The sea views from the room window were amazing, what a pleasure to wake up to! The beach was there in front... just across the street. Gijón is a place I want to return to and I will stay here again without a doubt!

I recommend this hotel to everyone. Fun service, cleanliness, good breakfast, location near the promenade, bus station and the city centre. Thanks especially to the staff at the reception. We were stayed earlier than planned. Before the departure, breakfast was served at 6 a.m. I would like to mention a competent marketing and flexible price policy. We were very satisfied.

We loved this place. The location, the room, the staff, the food and wine. We booked a single night for an enroute stop after arriving in Spain at Santander. After seeing the room, we booked another night. After spending a day in town, another night. After some research over wine in the bar, more nights! The hotel is in a perfect location, walking distance to the old town, beach and shopping districts plus arena and exhibition centre. It’s an easy bus trip or train to nearby towns meaning no driving or parking issues and no uprooting, packing and unpacking. Breakfast here was excellent with good quality food and service. Reception staff were fantastic and very tolerant of us changing our booking day after day. Thanks very much to Miguel! The crux of it all was the fantastic room. Large opening doors onto the gardens, quiet location, two comfortable chairs and a small table, perfect for watching tv, reading or having a snack. There is a supermarket close by for snacks, fruit or chocolate as required. The breakfast room overlooks the park and there’s a couple of public areas aside from the bar to meet people. There was a football game one night we stayed and we loved the vibe but with the windows shut, you wouldn’t have known it was happening. As Parador ‘amigos’ we get discount too! Loved it. Highly recommended.

WWEIIn the central area of the city center of Xihong, the quaint hotel has a sense of history, the room is very clean and comfortable. Downstairs is adjacent to **, commercial street, dining, theater, church. Very good experience.
AAngel Del CampoThe reception and the lifts are small.
The guests who had room looking at the sea thought they were opaque glasses and they were seen naked, people who passed by commented and laughed, should tell the guests.
The rooms and bathrooms are large but little gift in the room.
The bathroom has a pad that does not have to do with the floor, but as a old bathroom, it is thankful for the quality of materials, size and large bathroom.

GGuest UserAll in all, we found this hotel to be impressive, all rooms are clean, tidy, beautiful and correct, the hotel is well located about 15m from the old town. For ”but”, I will introduce the following. When arriving at the reception, the girl who attended our meeting (by the way, very beautiful) explained that if we want to eat breakfast and enjoy a 9 euro discount, then we can hire him the day before because it is 18 euros. In general, we went out for dinner and then returned to the hotel. The next day we wanted to rent breakfast. To our surprise, the boy at the reception told us that in order to benefit from this offer, we must We hired him during our stay and he gave us so angry that we didn't do it because it was not what they told us in the first place. But on the Sunday before leaving, there was another girl at the reception. In order to confirm the true version, we told her what happened and confirmed the version of her first companion. She asked us a thousand apologies. The facts are facts. There is nothing we can do. Could not have breakfast.
GGuest UserI had a terrible experience in this so-called three stars hotel, the worst I ever had while travelling. Leaving aside the smell of the curtains, the humidity, the noise from outside, no reception at night, and other details, I want to tell you what happened to me there. I came to Europe for five weeks to visit different countries. A couple of cities with friends and others on my own, which was the case in Gijón. I had made a two-night reservation in Alda Pasaje but ended up leaving early because of what I would describe as a traumatic event. On the morning of the 20th, I was awakened by a knocking on my door. When I asked who it was, they answered me ”police”. Not understanding, I asked what happened and they told me to open the door unkindly. The door had no peephole so I couldn't see who was outside. When I opened the door, I found two men in private clothes, one of whom can only be identified with a badge. They asked me for my document and I gave them my passport. They asked me several questions about when and how I arrived in Spain, both checking the stamps on my passport. I asked them what happened but they didn't give me any explanation. Seeing that what I answered matched the seals, they left. It was a very unpleasant situation, I was alone and I didn't really know if they were the police or what was going on. No one from the hotel went up with them. When I went down to reception to ask for an explanation, the woman there downplayed it, telling me that it was normal for that to happen. I have travelled through Europe before and this is the third time I have come to Spain, and I have never experienced a similar situation, nor do I know anyone who has experienced something similar. I was so traumatized that I was not able to complete my stay. I didn’t feel safe there anymore. The hotel did not refund me anything, they did not even apologize. In fact, the lady acted offended and didn't even look at me when checking out. I believe that this hotel is not up to the standards of a three stars hotel. In this world, if you are a woman on your own 10.000 kms away from home, you can understand how scary can be that two men show up at your door without notice, without uniform and with no reason to be there, asking questions and not answering any. There are better places to stay than this one for sure, DO NOT STAY THERE!
The hotel and its excellent staff. Very comfortable beds and everything very clean. The super attentive and friendly staff. Only mention that the location is a little uncomfortable and something more isolated than we thought at first. Free parking.
Ssuny717Went to Gijon for a friend's wedding in the off season. I can see how the place would be popular in the summer season, but not much going on otherwise. The hotel is in a prime location though - right next to the beach and downtown. We booked through a website called hotel club - for convenience as my friend had used it. The desription was nothing like reality - they clearly said there was an indoor swimming pool. Wasn't expecting much, but the description is clearly for another hotel, as this is a small old hotel with locals in the coffee shop in the front. The rooms are pretty pokey and some of the walls are a bit paper thin, but they've made a precent decent crack at fixing it up to make it look a bit more modern by adding some pop art prints and theming each room with a famous person. Probably quite good value for the location and the standard.
