Sunday lunch We went for Sunday lunch and everything was just perfect from the staff to the food. What really impressed us was the temperature of the food it was nice and hot not like a lot of places were it’s warm. Would give the them 10out of 10 We will definitely be back.

The owners have clearly put a lot of effort into creating a lovely hotel, and for deaf visitors it would be. The view from the balcony is superb, the room was spacious and comfortable and everything was pretty smart. However, the soundproofing was fairly dismal, so we could hear the couple in the room next to us talking and hear their child crying. - 1 star for inadequate soundproofing on what was a fairly expensive room. We were then subjected to very loud music with heavy bass from the wedding happening in the hotel - I hope the couple had a lovely time, but having shelled out for a room with a balcony in the quiet bit of the lake district I did find the lack of quiet a bit disappointing. - 1 star for the rather less than tranquil surroundings. On checking out, the receptionist asked us if everything had been ok, so I mentioned it was a shame the wedding music had been so loud, as it had made it hard to enjoy a quiet evening (for reference think Travelodge room above a nightclub). The receptionist told me that the music had been turned off at 11, so was in line with legal requirements, not sure why that was relevant, considering I had paid for a room in a nice looking hotel with a balcony in the quiet bit of the lakes. Her colleague shrugged at us, clearly indicating she thought we were the problem. - 1 star for rude staffing. In short, this hotel could be wonderful, but isn't.

This fine venue, fine in it's location, fine in it's relaxed car parking layout and fine in the quality of the interior furnishings and layout, continues to provide a relaxed atmosphere and unstuffy, efficient, service in interior surroundings that are significantly classier and have an up-market feel that could so easily make ordinary people, like me, feel ill-at-ease. I felt completely at ease from the moment I walked through the door. Not being an habitual diner-out, I opted for the Pan fried fillet of chicken with sage and onion potato cake, crispy streaky bacon and roast gravy, regarding that as a safe option. By steering clear of what could go wrong, I found that I had stumbled upon a meal that was tasty and wholesome, with plenty of perfectly-cooked U.K.-garden vegetables. By the time I had exhausted the supply of foods that could be liberally smothered in the delicious sauce, I still had quite a bit of that sauce remaining. Not being an habitual diner-out, I decided that asking-for a slice of brown bread to clean my plate, or worse (such as I would have done in a farmhouse) would 'blow my cover!' After that, the desert menu was an amusement park of possible delights; and after eating a banana-filled pancake, with ice cream and caramel sauce; I was left, again, regretting the impossibility of laying my hands on a slice of brown bread, or worse! Next to me in this dining-out celebration with friends; my fellow-diner was being vociferously challenged to "Go on! Lick it! Lick it up!" My thoughts exactly. My meal was a luxurious treat. We were all served our chosen dishes without a pause in the service and I, for one, was taken on a culinary ride-out well-beyond my expectations.

Having stayed in a lot of local hotels in the Whitehaven and Cockermouth Area, in my experience and in my opinion, this is by far the best place to stay. Upon entering the hotel I received a very warm welcome and I was shown to a very well presented, clean and well maintained room which looks to be recently decorated too. A warm welcome in the bar and the food was delicious Breakfast is amazing and fantastic views. I still have a further night to stay but I feel comfortable enough to leave my review and book for my next stay too. Thank you!
