Tsavo National Park
Ticket Price: Free
Recommended Length of Stay: 1-1 Hours
Location: Voi, Tsavo National Park East, Kenya
Tsavo National Park is currently the largest national park in Kenya, covering an area of 21,000 square kilometers and consists of two parts, Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Generally speaking, Tsavo West National Park, with a radius of only 1,000 square kilometers, is more eye-catching. The beautiful and simple African wilderness scene and the diverse species of wild animals attract thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. Tsavo West National Park is located in the narrow strip between the Tsavo River and the Mombasa Highway. In the 1960s, this place used to be the place with a very large number of black rhinos in the world, about 9,000. However, due to the destruction of the ecological balance, only about 100 remained by the end of the 1980s. Now, the rhino habitat has been set up in the park, and its number has rebounded. In addition, tourists can also see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, bison, zebras, antelopes and other wild animals here.

Fort Jesus
Opening Hours: Open from 8:00am-6:00pm
Recommended Length of Stay: 1-1 Hours
Location: National Museums of Kenya-Fort Jesus Museum Nkrumah Rd, Mombasa 80100 Mombasa
Fort Jesus is located on the southeast corner of Mombasa Island. The opening of a new route linking the East and the West has enabled the vigorous development of international trade and maritime transport. Mombasa is an important supply point and cargo distribution center on the new route, so it has become the target of competition. In 1589, the Ottoman Turks sent an expedition to occupy Mombasa and build the castle. In 1593, the Portuguese captured Mombasa and built a larger castle on the harbour headland to overlook and control the port. Because Portuguese missionaries also traveled with merchant ships, the new castle was named Fort Jesus. Fort Jesus is in the shape of a "big" shape, more than 100 meters long and 80 meters wide. The city wall is built on coral rock, 15 meters high and 2.4 meters thick. The gate is covered with spikes about 10 cm long to prevent the collision of elephants. In 1696, the Sultan of Oman began a siege of the castle, and the Portuguese surrendered after two years and nine months of resistance. In 1958, the ancient castle was turned into a museum, displaying historical pictures and cultural relics of East Africa and the new route. Some cultural relics from China are also included, such as the porcelain plates and vases fired during the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty. Research shows that Zheng He also reached Mombasa when he went to the West, and these cultural relics are probably left at that time.
Reviews from Real Guests:
Trip.com User: We came here in February. Fort Jesus is an interesting piece of Mombasa's history. You can learn about the city's strategic importance and how it changed hands between the Omanis and Europeans so many times. A nice diversion in Old Town.
J Blessing: old is gold
